| 1 | And Naomi her mother-in-law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee? | Poi Naomi, sua suocera, le disse: Figlia mia, non cercherò io un posto di riposo per te, affinché tu sia felice? |
| 2 | And now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to-night in the threshing-floor. | Ora Boaz, con le serve del quale tu sei stata, non è forse nostro parente? Ecco questa sera egli deve vagliare l'orzo sull'aia. |
| 3 | Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the threshing-floor, but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking. | Perciò lavati, ungiti, mettiti le vesti migliori e scendi all'aia; ma non farti riconoscere da lui fino a che non abbia finito di mangiare e di bere. |
| 4 | And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do. | Quando andrà a coricarsi, osserva il luogo dove si corica; poi va', scoprigli i piedi e coricati tu stessa. Ed egli ti dirà ciò che devi fare. |
| 5 | And she said unto her, All that thou sayest I will do. | Ruth le rispose: Farò tutto quello che dici. |
| 6 | And she went down unto the threshing-floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law bade her. | Così scese all'aia e fece tutto ciò che la suocera le aveva ordinato. |
| 7 | And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down. | Boaz mangiò e bevve e col cuore allegro andò a coricarsi accanto al mucchio di grano. Allora ella venne pian piano, gli scoperse i piedi e si coricò. |
| 8 | And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself; and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. | Verso mezzanotte egli si svegliò di soprassalto e si voltò; ed ecco, una donna giaceva ai suoi piedi. |
| 9 | And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thy handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thy handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman. | Chi sei tu? le disse. Ella rispose: Sono Ruth, tua serva; stendi il lembo del tuo mantello sulla tua serva, perché tu hai il diritto di riscatto. |
| 10 | And he said, Blessed be thou of Jehovah, my daughter: thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. | Egli disse: Sii benedetta dall'Eterno, figlia mia! La bontà mostrata quest'ultima volta supera quella di prima perché non sei corsa dietro a giovani poveri o ricchi. |
| 11 | And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou sayest; for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a worthy woman. | Ora dunque, non temere figlia mia; io farò per te tutto ciò che richiedi perché tutta la gente della mia città conosce che sei una donna virtuosa |
| 12 | And now it is true that I am a near kinsman; howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I. | Or è vero che io ho il diritto di riscatto; ma ce n'è uno che è parente più stretto di me. |
| 13 | Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman`s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as Jehovah liveth: lie down until the morning. | Passa qui la notte; e domani mattina, se egli farà valere il suo diritto nei tuoi confronti, va bene, lo faccia pure; ma se non vorrà far valere il suo diritto con te io farò valere il mio e ti riscatterò, com'è vero che l'Eterno vive! Sta' coricata fino al mattino. |
| 14 | And she lay at his feet until the morning. And she rose up before one could discern another. For he said, Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing-floor. | Così ella rimase coricata ai suoi piedi fino al mattino; ma si alzò prima che uno possa riconoscere un altro, perché egli aveva detto: Nessuno sappia che questa donna è venuta sull'aia!. |
| 15 | And he said, Bring the mantle that is upon thee, and hold it; and she held it; and he measured six [measures] of barley, and laid it on her: and he went into the city. | Poi aggiunse: Porta il mantello che hai indosso e sorreggilo. Ella lo sorresse, ed egli vi versò sei misure di orzo, glielo mise sulle spalle; poi essa rientrò in città. |
| 16 | And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her. | Così tornò dalla suocera, che le disse: Sei tu, figlia mia?. Allora essa le raccontò tutto ciò che l'uomo aveva fatto per lei, |
| 17 | And she said, These six [measures] of barley gave he me; for he said, Go not empty unto thy mother-in-law. | e aggiunse: Mi ha anche dato queste sei misure di orzo, perché mi ha detto "Non devi tornare da tua suocera a mani vuote". |
| 18 | Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest, until he have finished the thing this day. | Naomi disse: Rimani qui, figlia mia, finché tu sappia come andrà a finire la cosa, perché quest'uomo non si darà riposo, finché non abbia sistemato oggi stesso la cosa. |
