Un homme de Bethléhem de Juda partit, avec sa femme et ses deux fils, pour faire un séjour dans le pays de Moab. | Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. Arrivés au pays de Moab, ils y fixèrent leur demeure. | And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. | 7 | Elle sortit du lieu qu'elle habitait, accompagnée de ses deux belles-filles, et elle se mit en route pour retourner dans le pays de Juda. | Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. | Ella partì dunque con le sue due nuore dal luogo dove si trovava, e si mise in cammino per tornare nel paese di Giuda. |

Elles élevèrent la voix, et pleurèrent ; | The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Ai-je encore dans mon sein des fils qui puissent devenir vos maris ? | And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? | Ma Naomi rispose: Tornate indietro, figlie mie! Perché verreste con me? Ho forse ancora dei figli in grembo che possano diventare vostri mariti? |
| 12 | Retournez, mes filles, allez ! Je suis trop vieille pour me remarier. Et quand je dirais : J'ai de l'espérance ; quand cette nuit même je serais avec un mari, et que j'enfanterais des fils, | Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons; | Tornate indietro, figlie mie, andate, perché sono troppo vecchia per rimaritarmi; e anche se dicessi: "Ho ancora speranza"; anche se andassi a marito stasera e partorissi dei figli. |

Non, mes filles ! car à cause de vous je suis dans une grande affliction de ce que la main de l'Éternel s'est étendue contre moi. | Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me. | aspettereste voi finché fossero grandi? Vi asterreste voi per questo dal maritarvi? No, figlie mie, perché la mia condizione è più amara della vostra, poiché la mano dell'Eterno si è stesa contro di me. |
| 14 | Et elles élevèrent la voix, et pleurèrent encore. Orpa baisa sa belle-mère, mais Ruth s'attacha à elle. | And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. | Allora esse alzarono la voce e piansero di nuovo; poi Orpah baciò la suocera, ma Ruth rimase stretta a lei. |
| 15 | Naomi dit à Ruth : Voici, ta belle-soeur est retournée vers son peuple et vers ses dieux ; retourne, comme ta belle-soeur. | And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. | Allora Naomi disse a Ruth: Ecco, tua cognata è tornata al suo popolo e ai suoi dei; torna indietro anche tu, come tua cognata!. |

Que l'Éternel me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si autre chose que la mort vient à me séparer de toi ! | Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. | dove morirai tu morirò anch'io, e là sarò sepolta. Così mi faccia l'Eterno e anche peggio, se altra cosa che la morte mi separerà da te!. |
| 18 | Naomi, la voyant décidée à aller avec elle, cessa ses instances. | When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. | Quando Naomi si rese conto che Ruth era decisa a seguirla, smise di parlare con lei. |
| 19 | Elles firent ensemble le voyage jusqu'à leur arrivée à Bethléhem. Et lorsqu'elles entrèrent dans Bethléhem, toute la ville fut émue à cause d'elles, et les femmes disaient : Est-ce là Naomi ? | So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? | Così fecero il viaggio assieme fino a che giunsero a Betlemme. Quando giunsero a Betlemme, tutta la città fu in agitazione per loro. Le donne dicevano: E' questa Naomi?. |
| 20 | Elle leur dit : Ne m'appelez pas Naomi ; appelez-moi Mara, car le Tout Puissant m'a remplie d'amertume. | And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. | Ella rispose loro: Non chiamatemi Naomi; chiamatemi Mara, poiché l'Onnipotente mi ha riempita di amarezza. |
| 21 | J'étais dans l'abondance à mon départ, et l'Éternel me ramène les mains vides. Pourquoi m'appelleriez-vous Naomi, après que l'Éternel s'est prononcé contre moi, et que le Tout Puissant m'a affligée ? | I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? | Io partii nell'abbondanza e l'Eterno mi ha riportato a casa spoglia di tutto. Perché chiamarmi Naomi, quando l'Eterno ha testimoniato contro di me e l'Onnipotente mi ha resa infelice?. |
| 22 | Ainsi revinrent du pays de Moab Naomi et sa belle-fille, Ruth la Moabite. Elles arrivèrent à Bethléhem au commencement de la moisson des orges. | So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest. | Così Naomi tornò con Ruth, la Moabita, sua nuora, venuta dal paese di Moab. Esse arrivarono a Betlemme quando si cominciava a mietere l'orzo. |
