| 12 | je veux dire, de nous encourager ensemble au milieu de vous par la foi qui nous est commune, à vous et à moi. | that is, that I with you may be comforted in you, each of us by the other`s faith, both yours and mine. |
| 13 | Je ne veux pas vous laisser ignorer, frères, que je me suis souvent proposé d'aller vous voir, - mais j'en ai été empêché jusqu'ici, - afin de recueillir aussi quelques fruits parmi vous, comme parmi les autres nations. | And I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you (and was hindered hitherto), that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Gentiles. |
| 14 | Je me dois aux Grecs et aux Barbares, aux savants et aux ignorants. | I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. |
| 15 | Ainsi, autant qu'il est en moi, je suis prêt à vous annoncer aussi l'Evangile, à vous qui êtes à Rome. | So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also that are in Rome. |
| 16 | Car je n'ai point honte de l'Evangile; c'est une force divine pour le salut de tout homme qui croit, premièrement du Juif, puis du Grec. | For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. |
| 17 | En effet, en lui est révélée une justice de Dieu qui vient de la foi et est destinée à la foi, selon qu'il est écrit : "Le juste vivra par la foi." | For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live by faith. |
| 18 | En effet, la colère de Dieu éclate du haut du ciel contre toute impiété et toute injustice des hommes, qui, par leur injustice, retiennent la vérité captive; | For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness; |
| 19 | car ce qui se peut connaître de Dieu, est manifeste parmi eux : Dieu le leur a manifesté. | because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them. |
| 20 | En effet ses perfections invisibles, son éternelle puissance et sa divinité sont, depuis la création du monde, rendues visibles à l'intelligence par le moyen de ses oeuvres. Ils sont donc inexcusables, | For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, [even] his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse: |
| 21 | puisque, ayant connu Dieu, ils ne l'ont pas glorifié comme Dieu et ne lui ont pas rendu grâces; mais ils sont devenus vains dans leurs pensées, et leur coeur sans intelligence s'est enveloppé de ténèbres. | because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened. |
| 22 | Se vantant d'être sages, ils sont devenus fous; | Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, |
| 23 | et ils ont échangé la majesté du Dieu incorruptible pour des images représentant l'homme corruptible, des oiseaux, des quadrupèdes et des reptiles. | and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. |
| 24 | Aussi Dieu les a-t-il livrés, au milieu des convoitises de leurs coeurs, à l'impureté, en sorte qu'ils déshonorent entre eux leurs propres corps, | Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves: |
| 25 | eux qui ont échangé le Dieu véritable pour le mensonge, et qui ont adoré et servi la créature de préférence au Créateur, (lequel est béni éternellement. Amen !) | for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. |
| 26 | C'est pourquoi Dieu les a livrés à des passions d'ignominie : leurs femmes ont changé l'usage naturel en celui qui est contre nature; | For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature: |
| 27 | de même aussi les hommes, au lieu d'user de la femme selon l'ordre de la nature, ont, dans leurs désirs, brûlé les uns pour les autres, ayant hommes avec hommes un commerce infâme, et recevant dans une mutuelle dégradation, le juste salaire de leur égarement. | and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due. |
| 28 | Et comme ils ne se sont pas souciés de bien connaître Dieu, Dieu les a livrés à leur sens pervers pour faire ce qui ne convient pas, | And even as they refused to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; |
| 29 | étant remplis de toute espèce d'iniquité, de malice, [de fornication], de cupidité, de méchanceté, pleins d'envie, de pensées homicides, de querelle, de fraude, de malignité, semeurs de faux bruits, | being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers, |
| 30 | calomniateurs, haïs de Dieu, arrogants, hautains, fanfarons, ingénieux au mal, rebelles à leurs parents, | backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, |
| 31 | sans intelligence, sans loyauté, [implacables], sans affection, sans pitié. | without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful: |
| 32 | Et bien qu'ils connaissent le jugement de Dieu déclarant dignes de mort ceux qui commettent de telles choses, non seulement ils les font, mais encore ils approuvent ceux qui les font. | who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them. |
