| 2 | But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. | Or quant à moi, mes pieds m'ont presque manqué, et il s'en est peu fallu que mes pas n'aient glissé. |
| 3 | For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. | Car j'ai porté envie aux insensés, en voyant la prospérité des méchants. |
| 4 | For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. | Parce qu'il n'y a point d'angoisses en leur mort, mais leur force est en son entier. |
| 5 | They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. | Ils ne sont point en travail avec les autres hommes, et ils ne sont point battus avec les autres hommes. |
| 6 | Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. | C'est pourquoi l'orgueil les environne comme un collier, et un vêtement de violence les couvre. |
| 7 | Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. | Les yeux leur sortent dehors à force de graisse; ils surpassent les desseins de leur coeur. |
| 8 | They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. | Ils sont pernicieux, et parlent malicieusement d'opprimer; ils parlent comme placés sur un lieu élevé. |
| 9 | They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. | Ils mettent leur bouche aux cieux, et leur langue parcourt la terre. |
| 10 | Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. | C'est pourquoi son peuple en revient là, quand on lui fait sucer l'eau à plein verre. |
| 11 | And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? | Et ils disent: comment le Dieu Fort connaîtrait-il, et y aurait-il de la connaissance au Souverain? |
| 12 | Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. | Voilà, ceux-ci sont méchants, et étant à leur aise en ce monde, ils acquièrent de plus en plus des richesses. |
| 13 | Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. | Quoi qu'il en soit, c'est en vain que j'ai purifié mon coeur, et que j'ai lavé mes mains dans l'innocence. |
| 14 | For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. | Car j'ai été battu tous les jours, et mon châtiment revenait tous les matins. |
| 15 | If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. | Mais quand j'ai dit: j'en parlerai ainsi; voilà, j'ai été infidèle à la génération de tes enfants. |
| 16 | When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; | Toutefois j'ai tâché à connaître cela; mais cela m'a paru fort difficile. |
| 17 | Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. | Jusques à ce que je sois entré au sanctuaire du Dieu Fort, et que j'aie considéré la fin de telles gens. |
| 18 | Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. | Quoi qu'il en soit, tu les as mis en des lieux glissants, tu les fais tomber dans des précipices. |
| 19 | How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. | Comment ont-ils été ainsi détruits en un moment? sont-ils défaillis? ont-ils été consumés d'épouvantements? |
| 20 | As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image. | Ils sont comme un songe lorsqu'on s'est réveillé. Seigneur tu mettras en mépris leur ressemblance quand tu te réveilleras. |
| 21 | Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. | Or quand mon coeur s'aigrissait, et que je me tourmentais en mes reins; |
| 22 | So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. | J'étais alors stupide, et je n'avais aucune connaissance; j'étais comme une brute en ta présence. |
| 23 | Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. | Je serai donc toujours avec toi; tu m'as pris par la main droite, |
| 24 | Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. | Tu me conduiras par ton conseil, et puis tu me recevras dans la gloire. |
| 25 | Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. | Quel autre ai-je au Ciel? Or je n'ai pris plaisir sur la terre en rien qu'en toi seul. |
| 26 | My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. | Ma chair et mon coeur étaient consumés; mais Dieu est le rocher de mon coeur, et mon partage à toujours. |
| 27 | For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. | Car voilà, ceux qui s'éloignent de toi, périront; tu retrancheras tous ceux qui se détournent de toi. |
| 28 | But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. | Mais pour moi, approcher de Dieu est mon bien; j'ai mis toute mon espérance au Seigneur Eternel, afin que je raconte tous tes ouvrages. |
