| 1 | Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. | (56-2) O Dieu, aie pitié de moi, car les hommes me poursuivent; tout le jour ils me font la guerre, ils me pressent. |
| 2 | Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. | (56-3) Tout le jour mes adversaires me poursuivent; car plusieurs font la guerre contre moi, ô Dieu Très-Haut! |
| 3 | What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. | (56-4) Le jour où je craindrai, je me confierai en toi. |
| 4 | In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. | (56-5) Je louerai en Dieu sa Parole; je me confie en Dieu, je ne crains rien; que me ferait l'homme? |
| 5 | Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. | (56-6) Tout le jour ils tordent mes paroles; ils ne pensent qu'à me nuire. |
| 6 | They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. | (56-7) Ils s'assemblent; ils se tiennent cachés; ils observent mes pas, car ils en veulent à ma vie. |
| 7 | Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God. | (56-8) Échapperont-ils par l'iniquité? O Dieu, précipite les peuples dans ta colère! |
| 8 | Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? | (56-9) Tu comptes mes allées et mes venues; mets mes larmes dans tes vaisseaux; ne sont-elles pas dans ton livre? |
| 9 | When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. | (56-10) Le jour où je crierai à toi, mes ennemis seront repoussés en arrière; je sais que Dieu est pour moi. |
| 10 | In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word. | (56-11) En Dieu, je louerai sa Parole; en l'Éternel je louerai sa Parole. |
| 11 | In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. | (56-12) Je m'assure en Dieu; je ne crains rien; que me ferait l'homme? |
| 12 | Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. | (56-13) O Dieu, j'accomplirai les vœux que je t'ai faits; je te rendrai des actions de grâces. |
| 13 | For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? | (56-14) Car tu as délivré mon âme de la mort et mes pieds de la chute, afin que je marche devant Dieu, dans la lumière des vivants. |
