| 10 | Et voici, il fut abordé par une femme Ayant la mise d'une prostituée et la ruse dans le coeur. | And, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart. |
| 11 | Elle était bruyante et rétive ; Ses pieds ne restaient point dans sa maison ; | She is clamorous and wilful; Her feet abide not in her house: |
| 12 | Tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, Et près de tous les angles, elle était aux aguets. | Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places, And lieth in wait at every corner. |
| 13 | Elle le saisit et l'embrassa, Et d'un air effronté lui dit : | So she caught him, and kissed him, [And] with an impudent face she said unto him: |
| 14 | Je devais un sacrifice d'actions de grâces, Aujourd'hui j'ai accompli mes voeux. | Sacrifices of peace-offerings are with me; This day have I paid my vows. |
| 15 | C'est pourquoi je suis sortie au-devant de toi Pour te chercher, et je t'ai trouvé. | Therefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. |
| 16 | J'ai orné mon lit de couvertures, De tapis de fil d'Égypte ; | I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, With striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt. |
| 17 | J'ai parfumé ma couche De myrrhe, d'aloès et de cinnamome. | I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. |
| 18 | Viens, enivrons-nous d'amour jusqu'au matin, Livrons-nous joyeusement à la volupté. | Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; Let us solace ourselves with loves. |
| 19 | Car mon mari n'est pas à la maison, Il est parti pour un voyage lointain ; | For the man is not at home; He is gone a long journey: |
| 20 | Il a pris avec lui le sac de l'argent, Il ne reviendra à la maison qu'à la nouvelle lune. | He hath taken a bag of money with him; He will come home at the full moon. |
| 21 | Elle le séduisit à force de paroles, Elle l'entraîna par ses lèvres doucereuses. | With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield; With the flattering of her lips she forceth him along. |
| 22 | Il se mit tout à coup à la suivre, Comme le boeuf qui va à la boucherie, Comme un fou qu'on lie pour le châtier, | He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as [one in] fetters to the correction of the fool; |
| 23 | Jusqu'à ce qu'une flèche lui perce le foie, Comme l'oiseau qui se précipite dans le filet, Sans savoir que c'est au prix de sa vie. | Till an arrow strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life. |
| 24 | Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, Et soyez attentifs aux paroles de ma bouche. | Now therefore, [my] sons, hearken unto me, And attend to the words of my mouth. |
| 25 | Que ton coeur ne se détourne pas vers les voies d'une telle femme, Ne t'égare pas dans ses sentiers. | Let not thy heart decline to her ways; Go not astray in her paths. |
| 26 | Car elle a fait tomber beaucoup de victimes, Et ils sont nombreux, tous ceux qu'elle a tués. | For she hath cast down many wounded: Yea, all her slain are a mighty host. |
| 27 | Sa maison, c'est le chemin du séjour des morts ; Il descend vers les demeures de la mort. | Her house is the way to Sheol, Going down to the chambers of death. |
