| 4 | Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. | Ne donne point de sommeil à tes yeux, et ne laisse point sommeiller tes paupières. |
| 5 | Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. | Dégage-toi comme le daim de la main du chasseur, et comme l'oiseau de la main de l'oiseleur. |
| 6 | Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: | Va, paresseux, vers la fourmi, regarde ses voies, et sois sage. |
| 7 | Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, | Elle n'a ni chef, ni directeur, ni gouverneur, |
| 8 | Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. | Et cependant elle prépare en été son pain, et amasse durant la moisson de quoi manger. |
| 9 | How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? | Paresseux, jusqu'à quand te tiendras-tu couché? Quand te lèveras-tu de ton lit? |
| 10 | Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: | Un peu de sommeil, dis-tu, un peu de sommeil, un peu de ploiement de bras, afin de demeurer couché; |
| 11 | So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. | Et ta pauvreté viendra comme un passant; et ta disette, comme un soldat. |
| 12 | A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. | L'homme qui imite le démon, est un homme violent et ses discours sont faux. |
| 13 | He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; | Il fait signe de ses yeux, il parle de ses pieds, il enseigne de ses doigts. |
| 14 | Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. | Il y a des renversements dans son coeur, il machine du mal en tout temps, il fait naître des querelles. |
| 15 | Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. | C'est pourquoi sa calamité viendra subitement, il sera subitement brisé, il n'y aura point de guérison. |
| 16 | These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: | Dieu hait ces six choses, et même sept lui sont en abomination; |
| 17 | A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, | Savoir, les yeux hautains, la fausse langue, les mains qui répandent le sang innocent; |
| 18 | An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, | Le coeur qui machine de mauvais desseins; les pieds qui se hâtent pour courir au mal; |
| 19 | A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. | Le faux témoin qui profère des mensonges; et celui qui sème des querelles entre les frères. |
| 20 | My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: | Mon fils, garde le commandement de ton père, et n'abandonne point l'enseignement de ta mère; |
| 21 | Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. | Tiens-les continuellement liés à ton coeur, et les attache à ton cou. |
| 22 | When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. | Quand tu marcheras, il te conduira; et quand tu te coucheras, il te gardera; et quand tu te réveilleras, il s'entretiendra avec toi. |
| 23 | For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: | Car le commandement est une lampe; et l'enseignement une lumière; et les répréhensions propres à instruire sont le chemin de la vie. |
| 24 | To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. | Pour te garder de la mauvaise femme, et des flatteries de la langue étrangère, |
| 25 | Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. | Ne convoite point en ton coeur sa beauté, et ne te laisse point prendre à ses yeux. |
| 26 | For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. | Car pour l'amour de la femme débauchée on en vient jusqu'à un morceau de pain, et la femme convoiteuse d'homme chasse après l'âme précieuse de l'homme. |
| 27 | Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? | Quelqu'un peut-il prendre du feu dans son sein, sans que ses habits brûlent? |
| 28 | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? | Quelqu'un marchera-t-il sur la braise, sans que ses pieds en soient brûlés? |
| 29 | So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. | Ainsi en prend-il à celui qui entre vers la femme de son prochain; quiconque la touchera, ne sera point innocent. |
| 30 | Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; | On ne méprise point un larron, s'il dérobe pour remplir son âme, quand il a faim; |
| 31 | But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. | Et s'il est trouvé, il le récompensera sept fois au double, il donnera tout ce qu'il a dans sa maison. |
| 32 | But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. | Mais celui qui commet adultère avec une femme, est dépourvu de sens; et celui qui le fera, sera le destructeur de son âme. |
| 33 | A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. | Il trouvera des plaies et de l'ignominie, et son opprobre ne sera point effacé. |
| 34 | For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. | Car la jalousie est une fureur de mari, qui n'épargnera point l'adultère au jour de la vengeance. |
| 35 | He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. | Il n'aura égard à aucune rançon, et il n'acceptera rien, quand tu multiplierais les présents. |
