| 9 | How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? | Fino a quando, o pigro, rimarrai a dormire? Quando ti scuoterai dal tuo sonno? |
| 10 | [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep: | Dormire un po' sonnecchiare un po' incrociare un po' le braccia per riposare, |
| 11 | So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man. | così la tua povertà verrà come un ladro, e la tua indigenza come un uomo armato. |

| 19 | A false witness that uttereth lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren. | il falso testimone che proferisce menzogne e chi semina discordie tra fratelli. |
| 20 | My son, keep the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother: | Figlio mio, custodisci il comandamento di tuo padre e non dimenticare l'insegnamento di tua madre. |
| 21 | Bind them continually upon thy heart; Tie them about thy neck. | Tienili del continuo legati sul tuo cuore e fissali intorno al tuo collo. |
| 22 | When thou walkest, it shall lead thee; When thou sleepest, it shall watch over thee; And when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. | Quando camminerai, ti guideranno; quando riposerai, veglieranno su di te; quando ti risveglierai, parleranno con te. |
| 23 | For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; And reproofs of instruction are the way of life: | Poiché il comandamento è una lampada, l'insegnamento una luce, e le correzioni dell'ammaestramento sono la via della vita, |

| 25 | Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; Neither let her take thee with her eyelids. | Non desiderare in cuor tuo la sua bellezza e non lasciarti avvincere dalle sue palpebre. |
| 26 | For on account of a harlot [a man is brought] to a piece of bread; And the adulteress hunteth for the precious life. | Poiché per una prostituta uno si riduce a un tozzo di pane, e la moglie di un altro dà la caccia all'anima preziosa di un uomo. |
| 27 | Can a man take fire in his bosom, And his clothes not be burned? | Può un uomo portare fuoco nel suo seno senza bruciarsi gli abiti? |
| 28 | Or can one walk upon hot coals, And his feet not be scorched? | O può un uomo camminare su carboni accesi senza bruciarsi i piedi? |
| 29 | So he that goeth in to his neighbor`s wife; Whosoever toucheth her shall not be unpunished. | Così è di chi va dalla moglie di un altro; chi la tocca non rimarrà impunito. |
| 30 | Men do not despise a thief, if he steal To satisfy himself when he is hungry: | Non si disprezza il ladro se ruba per soddisfare l'appetito quando ha fame; |
| 31 | But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; He shall give all the substance of his house. | ma se viene colto in fallo, dovrà restituire sette volte, e dare tutti i beni della sua casa. |
| 32 | He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: He doeth it who would destroy his own soul. | Ma chi commette adulterio con una donna è privo di senno; chi fa questo distrugge la sua stessa vita. |
| 33 | Wounds and dishonor shall he get; And his reproach shall not be wiped away. | Troverà ferite e disprezzo, e la sua vergogna non sarà mai cancellata, |
| 34 | For jealousy is the rage of a man; And he will not spare in the day of vengeance. | perché la gelosia rende furioso il marito, che sarà senza pietà nel giorno della vendetta. |
| 35 | He will not regard any ransom; Neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. | Egli non accetterà alcun riscatto e non sarà soddisfatto, anche se dovesse fare molti regali. |
