| 4 | Mais à la fin elle est amère comme l'absinthe, aiguë comme un glaive à deux tranchants. | But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. |
| 5 | Ses pieds descendent vers la mort, ses pas vont droit au schéol. | Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on Sheol; |
| 6 | Elle ne considère pas le chemin de la vie, ses pas s'en vont incertains elle ne sait où. | So that she findeth not the level path of life: Her ways are unstable, [and] she knoweth [it] not. |
| 7 | Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, et ne vous écartez pas des paroles de ma bouche. | Now therefore, [my] sons, hearken unto me, And depart not from the words of my mouth. |
| 8 | Eloigne d'auprès d'elle ton chemin, ne t'approche pas de la porte de sa maison, | Remove thy way far from her, And come not nigh the door of her house; |
| 9 | de peur que tu ne livres à d'autres la fleur de ta jeunesse, et tes années au tyran cruel; | Lest thou give thine honor unto others, And thy years unto the cruel; |
| 10 | de peur que des étrangers ne se rassasient de tes biens, et que le fruit de ton travail ne passe dans la maison d'autrui; | Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, And thy labors [be] in the house of an alien, |
| 11 | de peur que tu ne gémisses à la fin, quand ta chair et ton corps seront consumés, | And thou mourn at thy latter end, When thy flesh and thy body are consumed, |
| 12 | et que tu ne dises : Comment donc ai-je pu haïr la correction; et comment mon coeur a-t-il dédaigné la réprimande ? | And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof; |
| 13 | Comment ai-je pu ne pas écouter la voix de mes maîtres, ne pas prêter l'oreille à ceux qui m'instruisaient ? | Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! |
| 14 | J'ai failli en venir au comble du malheur, au milieu du peuple et de l'assemblée. | I was well-nigh in all evil In the midst of the assembly and congregation. |
| 15 | Bois l'eau de ta citerne, les ruisseaux qui sortent de ton puits. | Drink waters out of thine own cistern, And running waters out of thine own well. |
| 16 | Que tes sources se répandent au dehors, que tes ruisseaux coulent sur les places publiques! | Should thy springs be dispersed abroad, And streams of water in the streets? |
| 17 | Qu'ils soient pour toi seul, et non pour des étrangers avec toi! | Let them be for thyself alone, And not for strangers with thee. |
| 18 | Que ta source soit bénie, et mets ta joie dans la femme de ta jeunesse. | Let thy fountain be blessed; And rejoice in the wife of thy youth. |
| 19 | Biche charmante, gracieuse gazelle, que ses charmes t'enivrent en tout temps, sois toujours épris de son amour! | [As] a loving hind and a pleasant doe, Let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; And be thou ravished always with her love. |
| 20 | Pourquoi, mon fils, t'éprendrais-tu d'une étrangère, et embrasserais-tu le sein d'une inconnue ? | For why shouldest thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, And embrace the bosom of a foreigner? |
| 21 | Car devant les yeux de Yahweh sont les voies de l'homme; il considère tous ses sentiers. | For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah; And he maketh level all his paths. |
| 22 | Le méchant est pris dans ses propres iniquités, il est saisi par les liens de son péché. | His own iniquities shall take the wicked, And he shall be holden with the cords of his sin. |
| 23 | Il mourra faute de correction, il sera trompé par l'excès de sa folie. | He shall die for lack of instruction; And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. |
