| 4 | Il m'a enseigné, et m'a dit: Que ton coeur retienne mes paroles; garde mes commandements, et tu vivras. | And he taught me, and said unto me: Let thy heart retain my words; Keep my commandments, and live; |
| 5 | Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la prudence; n'en oublie rien, et ne te détourne point des paroles de ma bouche. | Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth; |
| 6 | Ne l'abandonne point, et elle te gardera; aime-la, et elle te conservera. | Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee; Love her, and she will keep thee. |
| 7 | La principale chose, c'est la sagesse; acquiers la sagesse, et sur toutes tes acquisitions, acquiers la prudence. | Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding. |
| 8 | Estime-la, et elle t'exaltera; elle te glorifiera, quand tu l'auras embrassée. | Exalt her, and she will promote thee; She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her. |
| 9 | Elle posera des grâces enfilées ensemble sur ta tête, et elle te donnera une couronne d'ornement. | She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace; A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee. |
| 10 | Ecoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, et les années de ta vie te seront multipliées. | Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of thy life shall be many. |
| 11 | Je t'ai enseigné le chemin de la sagesse, et je t'ai fait marcher par les sentiers de la droiture. | I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness. |
| 12 | Quand tu y marcheras, ta démarche ne sera point serrée; et si tu cours, tu ne broncheras point. | When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. |
| 13 | Embrasse l'instruction, ne la lâche point, garde-la; car c'est ta vie. | Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: Keep her; for she is thy life. |
| 14 | N'entre point au sentier des méchants, et ne pose point ton pied au chemin des hommes pervers. | Enter not into the path of the wicked, And walk not in the way of evil men. |
| 15 | Détourne-t'en, ne passe point par là, éloigne-t'en, et passe outre. | Avoid it, pass not by it; Turn from it, and pass on. |
| 16 | Car ils ne dormiraient pas, s'ils n'avaient fait quelque mal; et le sommeil leur serait ôté, s'ils n'avaient fait tomber quelqu'un. | For they sleep not, except they do evil; And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. |
| 17 | Parce qu'ils mangent le pain de méchanceté, et qu'ils boivent le vin de la violence. | For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. |
| 18 | Mais le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante, qui augmente son éclat jusqu'à ce que le jour soit en sa perfection. | But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day. |
| 19 | La voie des méchants est comme l'obscurité; ils ne savent point où ils tomberont. | The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble. |
| 20 | Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, incline ton oreille à mes discours. | My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings. |
| 21 | Qu'ils ne s'écartent point de tes yeux; garde-les dans ton coeur. | Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart. |
| 22 | Car ils sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé de tout le corps de chacun d'eux. | For they are life unto those that find them, And health to all their flesh. |
| 23 | Garde ton coeur de tout ce dont il faut se garder; car de lui procèdent les sources de la vie. | Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life. |
| 24 | Eloigne de toi la perversité de la bouche, et la dépravation des lèvres. | Put away from thee a wayward mouth, And perverse lips put far from thee. |
| 25 | Que tes yeux regardent droit, et que tes paupières dirigent ton chemin devant toi. | Let thine eyes look right on, And let thine eyelids look straight before thee. |
| 26 | Balance le chemin de tes pieds, et que toutes tes voies soient bien dressées. | Make level the path of thy feet, And let all thy ways be established. |
| 27 | Ne décline ni à droite ni à gauche; détourne ton pied du mal. | Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: Remove thy foot from evil. |
