| 1 | My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: | Mon fils, ne mets point en oubli mon enseignement, et que ton coeur garde mes commandements. |
| 2 | For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. | Car ils t'apporteront de longs jours, et des années de vie, et de prospérité. |
| 3 | Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: | Que la gratuité et la vérité ne t'abandonnent point: lie-les à ton cou, et écris-les sur la table de ton coeur; |
| 4 | So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. | Et tu trouveras la grâce et le bon sens aux yeux de Dieu et des hommes. |
| 5 | Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. | Confie-toi de tout ton coeur en l'Eternel, et ne t'appuie point sur ta prudence. |
| 6 | In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. | Considère-le en toutes tes voies, et il dirigera tes sentiers. |
| 7 | Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. | Ne sois point sage à tes yeux; crains l'Eternel, et détourne-toi du mal. |
| 8 | It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. | Ce sera une médecine à ton nombril, et une humectation à tes os. |
| 9 | Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: | Honore l'Eternel de ton bien, et des prémices de tout ton revenu. |
| 10 | So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. | Et tes greniers seront remplis d'abondance, et tes cuves rompront de moût. |
| 11 | My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: | Mon fils, ne rebute point l'instruction de l'Eternel, et ne te fâche point de ce qu'il te reprend. |
| 12 | For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. | Car l'Eternel reprend celui qu'il aime, même comme un père l'enfant auquel il prend plaisir. |
| 13 | Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. | Ô! que bienheureux est l'homme qui trouve la sagesse, et l'homme qui met en avant l'intelligence! |
| 14 | For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. | Car le trafic qu'on peut faire d'elle, est meilleur que le trafic de l'argent; et le revenu qu'on en peut avoir, est meilleur que le fin or. |
| 15 | She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. | Elle est plus précieuse que les perles, et toutes tes choses désirables ne la valent point. |
| 16 | Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. | Il y a de longs jours en sa main droite, des richesses et de la gloire en sa gauche. |
| 17 | Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. | Ses voies sont des voies agréables, et tous ses sentiers ne sont que prospérité. |
| 18 | She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. | Elle est l'arbre de vie à ceux qui l'embrassent; et tous ceux qui la tiennent sont rendus bienheureux. |
| 19 | The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. | L'Eternel a fondé la terre par la sapience, et il a disposé les cieux par l'intelligence. |
| 20 | By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. | Les abîmes se débordent par sa science, et les nuées distillent la rosée. |
| 21 | My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: | Mon fils, qu'elles ne s'écartent point de devant tes yeux; garde la droite connaissance et la prudence. |
| 22 | So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. | Et elles seront la vie de ton âme, et l'ornement de ton cou. |
| 23 | Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. | Alors tu marcheras en assurance par ta voie, et ton pied ne bronchera point. |
| 24 | When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. | Si tu te couches, tu n'auras point de frayeur, et quand tu te seras couché ton sommeil sera doux. |
| 25 | Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. | Ne crains point la frayeur subite, ni la ruine des méchants, quand elle arrivera. |
| 26 | For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. | Car l'Eternel sera ton espérance, et il gardera ton pied d'être pris. |
| 27 | Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. | Ne retiens pas le bien de ceux à qui il appartient, encore qu'il fût en ta puissance de le faire. |
| 28 | Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. | Ne dis point à ton prochain: Va, et retourne, et je te le donnerai demain, quand tu l'as par-devers toi. |
| 29 | Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. | Ne machine point de mal contre ton prochain; vu qu'il habite en assurance avec toi. |
| 30 | Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. | N'aie point de procès sans sujet avec aucun, à moins qu'il ne t'ait fait quelque tort. |
| 31 | Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. | Ne porte point d'envie à l'homme violent, et ne choisis aucune de ses voies. |
| 32 | For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. | Car celui qui va de travers est en abomination à l'Eternel; mais son secret est avec ceux qui sont justes. |
| 33 | The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. | La malédiction de l'Eternel est dans la maison du méchant; mais il bénit la demeure des justes. |
| 34 | Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. | Certes il se moque des moqueurs, mais il fait grâce aux débonnaires. |
| 35 | The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. | Les sages hériteront la gloire; mais l'ignominie élève les fous. |
