| 4 | Le fruit de l'humilité, c'est la crainte de Yahweh; c'est la richesse, la gloire et la vie. | The reward of humility [and] the fear of Jehovah [Is] riches, and honor, and life. |
| 5 | Des épines et des pièges sont sur la voie du pervers; celui qui garde son âme s'en éloigne. | Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the perverse: He that keepeth his soul shall be far from them. |
| 6 | Instruis l'enfant selon la voie qu'il doit suivre; et, même lorsqu'il sera vieux, il ne s'en détournera pas. | Train up a child in the way he should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it. |
| 7 | Le riche domine sur les pauvres, et celui qui emprunte est l'esclave de celui qui prête. | The rich ruleth over the poor; And the borrower is servant to the lender. |
| 8 | Celui qui sème l'injustice moissonne le malheur, et la verge de sa colère disparaît. | He that soweth iniquity shall reap calamity; And the rod of his wrath shall fail. |
| 9 | L'homme au regard bienveillant sera béni, parce qu'il donne de son pain au pauvre. | He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; For he giveth of his bread to the poor. |
| 10 | Chasse le moqueur, et la querelle prendra fin; la dispute et l'outrage cesseront. | Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out; Yea, strife and ignominy will cease. |
| 11 | Celui qui aime la pureté du coeur, et qui a la grâce sur les lèvres, a le roi pour ami. | He that loveth pureness of heart, [For] the grace of his lips the king will be his friend. |
| 12 | Les yeux de Yahweh gardent la science, mais il confond les paroles du pervers. | The eyes of Jehovah preserve [him that hath] knowledge; But he overthroweth the words of the treacherous man. |
| 13 | Le paresseux dit : « Il y a un lion dehors! Je serai tué au milieu des places! » | The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be slain in the streets. |
| 14 | La bouche des étrangères est une fosse profonde; celui contre qui Yahweh est irrité y tombera. | The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: He that is abhorred of Jehovah shall fall therein. |
| 15 | La folie est attachée au coeur de l'enfant; la verge de la discipline l'éloignera de lui. | Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; [But] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. |
| 16 | Opprimer un pauvre, c'est l'enrichir; donner à un riche, c'est l'appauvrir. | He that oppresseth the poor to increase his [gain], [And] he that giveth to the rich, [shall come] only to want. |
| 17 | Prête l'oreille et écoute les paroles des sages, applique ton coeur à mon enseignement. | Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply thy heart unto my knowledge. |
| 18 | Car c'est une chose agréable, si tu les gardes au dedans de toi puissent-elles toutes demeurer sur tes lèvres! | For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, If they be established together upon thy lips. |
| 19 | Afin que ta confiance repose sur Yahweh, c'est toi que je veux instruire aujourd'hui. | That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I have made [them] known to thee this day, even to thee. |
| 20 | N'ai-je pas, plusieurs fois déjà, mis pour toi par écrit des conseils et des enseignements ? | Have not I written unto thee excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, |
| 21 | Pour t'enseigner la vérité des choses certaines, afin que tu répondes par des paroles vraies à eux qui t'envoient. | To make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, That thou mayest carry back words of truth to them that send thee? |
| 22 | Ne dépouille pas le pauvre parce qu'il est pauvre, et n'opprime pas le malheureux à la porte. | Rob not the poor, because he is poor; Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: |
| 23 | Car Yahweh prendra en main leur cause, et il ôtera la vie à ceux qui les auront dépouillés. | For Jehovah will plead their cause, And despoil of life those that despoil them. |
| 24 | Ne lie pas société avec l'homme colère, et ne va pas avec l'homme violent, | Make no friendship with a man that is given to anger; And with a wrathful man thou shalt not go: |
| 25 | de peur que tu n'apprennes ses voies, et que tu ne prépares un piège à ton âme. | Lest thou learn this ways, And get a snare to thy soul. |
| 26 | Ne sois pas de ceux qui prennent des engagements, de ceux qui se portent caution pour dettes. | Be thou not one of them that strike hands, [Or] of them that are sureties for debts. |
| 27 | Si tu n'as pas de quoi payer, pourquoi t'exposer à ce qu'on enlève ton lit de dessous toi ? | If thou hast not wherewith to pay, Why should he take away thy bed from under thee? |
| 28 | Ne déplace pas la borne ancienne, que tes pères ont posée. | Remove not the ancient landmark, Which thy fathers have set. |
| 29 | Vois-tu un homme habile dans son ouvrage ? Il demeurera auprès des rois, il ne demeurera pas auprès des gens obscurs. | Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before mean men. |
