| 4 | If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures: | se lo cerchi come l'argento e ti dai a scavarlo come un tesoro nascosto, |
| 5 | Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God. | allora intenderai il timore dell'Eterno, e troverai la conoscenza di DIO. |
| 6 | For Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding: | Poiché l'Eterno dà la sapienza; dalla sua bocca procedono la conoscenza e l'intendimento. |
| 7 | He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [He is] a shield to them that walk in integrity; | Egli tiene in serbo per gli uomini retti un aiuto potente, uno scudo per quelli che camminano rettamente, |
| 8 | That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints. | per proteggere i sentieri della equità e custodire la via dei suoi santi. |
| 9 | Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, [yea], every good path. | Allora intenderai la giustizia, l'equità, la rettitudine e tutte le vie del bene. |
| 10 | For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul; | Quando la sapienza entrerà nel tuo cuore e la conoscenza sarà gradevole alla tua anima, |
| 11 | Discretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee: | la riflessione veglierà su di te e l'intendimento ti proteggerà, |
| 12 | To deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things; | per liberarti dalla via malvagia, dalla gente che parla di cose perverse, |
| 13 | Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness; | da quelli che lasciano i sentieri della rettitudine per camminare nelle vie delle tenebre, |
| 14 | Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil; | che godono a fare il male e provano piacere nelle perversità del malvagio, |
| 15 | Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths: | i cui sentieri sono storti e le cui vie sono tortuose, |
| 16 | To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words; | per scamparti dalla donna adultera, dalla straniera che usa parole lusinghevoli, |
| 17 | That forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God: | che ha abbandonato il compagno della sua giovinezza e ha dimenticato il patto del suo DIO. |
| 18 | For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead; | Poiché la sua casa scende verso la morte e i suoi sentieri verso i defunti. |
| 19 | None that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life: | Nessuno di quelli che vanno da lei ritorna, nessuno raggiunge i sentieri della vita. |
| 20 | That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous. | Così potrai camminare per la via dei buoni e rimarrai nei sentieri dei giusti. |
| 21 | For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it. | Poiché gli uomini retti abiteranno la terra e quelli integri vi rimarranno; |
| 22 | But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it. | ma gli empi saranno sterminati dalla terra e i trasgressori saranno da essa strappati. |
