1Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.Celui qui se tient à l'écart ne cherche qu'à contenter sa passion, il s'irrite contre tout sage conseil.He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, And rageth against all sound wisdom.
2A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.Ce n'est pas l'intelligence qui plaît à l'insensé, c'est la manifestation de ses pensées.A fool hath no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.
3When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.Quand vient le méchant, vient aussi le mépris, et avec la honte vient l'opprobre.When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, And with ignominy [cometh] reproach.
4The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.Les paroles de la bouche de l'homme sont des eaux profondes; la source de la sagesse est un torrent qui déborde.The words of a man`s mouth are [as] deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is [as] a flowing brook.
5It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.Il n'est pas bon d'avoir égard à la personne du méchant, pour faire tort au juste dans le jugement.To respect the person of the wicked is not good, [Nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
6A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.Les lèvres de l'insensé se mêlent aux querelles et sa bouche provoque les outrages.A fool`s lips enter into contention, And his mouth calleth for stripes.
7A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.La bouche de l'insensé cause sa ruine, et ses lèvres sont un piège pour son âme.A fool`s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.
8The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.Les paroles du rapporteur sont des morceaux friands, elles descendent jusqu'au fond des entrailles.The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.
9He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.Celui qui est lâche dans son travail est frère de celui qui va à la perdition.He also that is slack in his work Is brother to him that is a destroyer.
10The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.Le nom de Yahweh est une tour forte; le juste s'y réfugie et y est en sûreté.The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.La fortune du riche est sa ville forte; dans sa pensée, c'est une muraille élevée.The rich man`s wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination.
12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.Avant la ruine, le coeur de l'homme s'élève, mais l'humilité précède la gloire.Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor [goeth] humility.
13He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.Celui qui répond avant d'avoir écouté, c'est pour lui folie et confusion.He that giveth answer before he heareth, It is folly and shame unto him.
14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?L'esprit de l'homme le soutient dans la maladie mais l'esprit abattu, qui le relèvera ?The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?
15The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.Un coeur intelligent acquiert la science, et l'oreille des sages cherche la science.The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.Le présent d'un homme lui élargit la voie, et l'introduit auprès des grands.A man`s gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men.
17He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.Le premier qui expose sa cause paraît juste; vient la partie adverse, et on examine le différend.He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; But his neighbor cometh and searcheth him out.
18The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.Le sort fait cesser les contestations, et décide entre les puissants.The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth between the mighty.
19A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.Un frère ennemi de son frère résiste plus qu'une ville forte, et leurs querelles sont comme les verrous d'un palais.A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city; And [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.C'est du fruit de la bouche de l'homme que se nourrit son corps, du produit de ses lèvres qu'il se rassasie.A man`s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; With the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
21Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.La mort et la vie sont au pouvoir de la langue; suivant son choix, on mangera ses fruits.Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.Celui qui trouve une femme trouve le bonheur; c'est une faveur qu'il a reçue de Yahweh.Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, And obtaineth favor of Jehovah.
23The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.Le pauvre parle en suppliant, et le riche répond durement.The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly.
24A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.L'homme aux nombreux amis les a pour sa perte, mais il tel ami plus attaché qu'un frère.He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction; But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
