| 1 | And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, | L'Eterno parlò ancora a Mosè nelle pianure di Moab presso il Giordano, sulla sponda opposta a Gerico, dicendo: |
| 2 | Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them. | Ordina ai figli d'Israele che, della eredità che possederanno, diano ai Leviti delle città da abitare; darete pure ai Leviti dei terreni da pascolo intorno alle città. |
| 3 | And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts. | Ed essi avranno le città per abitarvi, mentre i terreni da pascolo serviranno per il loro bestiame, per i loro beni e per tutti i loro animali. |
| 4 | And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about. | I terreni da pascolo delle città che darete ai Leviti si estenderanno dalle mura della città verso l'esterno per mille cubiti, tutt'intorno. |
| 5 | And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. | Misurerete dunque, fuori della città, duemila cubiti dal lato est, duemila cubiti dal lato sud, duemila cubiti dal lato ovest e duemila cubiti dal lato nord; la città sarà in mezzo. Questi sono i terreni da pascolo attorno alle città che apparterranno ai Leviti. |
| 6 | And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities. | Fra le città che darete ai Leviti voi designerete sei città di rifugio, alle quali possa fuggire chi ha ucciso qualcuno; e a queste aggiungerete altre quarantadue città. |
| 7 | So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs. | Tutte le città che darete ai Leviti saranno dunque quarantotto, assieme ai terreni da pascolo. |
| 8 | And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth. | Le città che darete ai Leviti proverranno dalla proprietà dei figli d'Israele; dalle tribù più grandi ne prenderete di più, dalle tribù più piccole ne prenderete di meno; ciascuna tribù darà ai Leviti qualcuna delle sue città, in proporzione della eredità che le sarà toccata. |
| 9 | And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | Poi l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo: |
| 10 | Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan; | Parla ai figli d'Israele e di' loro: Quando passerete il Giordano per entrare nel paese di Canaan, |
| 11 | Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares. | designerete delle città che siano per voi delle città di rifugio, dove possa fuggire l'omicida che ha ucciso qualcuno involontariamente. |
| 12 | And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment. | Queste città vi serviranno di rifugio contro il vendicatore perché l'omicida non sia messo a morte prima di essere comparso in giudizio davanti all'assemblea. |
| 13 | And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge. | Delle città che darete, sei saranno dunque per voi città di rifugio. |
| 14 | Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge. | Darete tre città nella parte est del Giordano, e darete tre città nel paese di Canaan; esse saranno città di rifugio. |
| 15 | These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither. | Queste sei città serviranno di rifugio per i figli d'Israele, per lo straniero e per colui che risiede fra di voi, affinché chiunque ha ucciso qualcuno involontariamente possa rifugiarvisi. |
| 16 | And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. | Ma se uno colpisce un altro con uno strumento di ferro, e quello muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà Messo a Morte. |
| 17 | And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. | E se lo colpisce con una pietra che aveva in mano, che può causare la morte, e il colpito muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà messo a morte. |
| 18 | Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. | O se lo colpisce con uno strumento di legno che aveva in mano, che può causare la morte, e il colpito muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà messo a morte. |
| 19 | The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him. | Sarà il vendicatore del sangue stesso a mettere a morte l'omicida; quando lo incontrerà lo ucciderà. |
| 20 | But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die; | Se uno dà a un altro una spinta per odio o gli lancia contro qualcosa intenzionalmente, e quello muore, |
| 21 | Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him. | o lo colpisce per inimicizia con la propria mano, e quello muore, chi ha colpito sarà messo a morte; è un omicida; il vendicatore del sangue ucciderà l'omicida quando lo incontrerà. |
| 22 | But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait, | Se però in un momento gli dà una spinta senza inimicizia, o gli lancia contro qualcosa ma non intenzionalmente, |
| 23 | Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm: | o se, senza vederlo, gli fa cadere addosso una pietra che può causare la morte, e quello muore, senza che l'altro gli fosse nemico o cercasse il suo male |
| 24 | Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments: | allora l'assemblea giudicherà fra colui che ha colpito e il vendicatore del sangue in base a queste norme. |
| 25 | And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil. | L'assemblea libererà l'omicida dalle mani del vendicatore del sangue e lo farà tornare alla città di rifugio dove era fuggito, e là egli abiterà fino alla morte del sommo sacerdote che fu unto con l'olio santo. |
| 26 | But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled; | Ma se l'omicida in qualsiasi momento esce dai confini della città di rifugio dove era fuggito, |
| 27 | And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood: | e il vendicatore del sangue trova l'omicida fuori dei confini della sua città di rifugio e lo uccide, il vendicatore del sangue non sarà colpevole del sangue versato, |
| 28 | Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession. | poiché l'omicida avrebbe dovuto rimanere nella sua città di rifugio fino alla morte del sommo sacerdote; dopo la morte del sommo sacerdote l'omicida può invece tornare nella terra di sua proprietà. |
| 29 | So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings. | Queste vi servano come norme di diritto per tutte le vostre generazioni, dovunque dimorerete. |
| 30 | Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die. | Se uno uccide una persona, l'omicida sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di testimoni; ma non si metterà a morte nessuno sulla deposizione di un solo testimone. |
| 31 | Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death. | Non accetterete alcun prezzo di riscatto per la vita di un omicida che è condannato a morte, perché dovrà essere messo a morte. |
| 32 | And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. | Non accetterete alcun prezzo di riscatto per un omicida che è fuggito nella sua città di rifugio, perché possa tornare ad abitare nella sua terra prima della morte del sacerdote. |
| 33 | So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. | Non contaminerete il paese dove siete, perché il sangue contamina il paese; e non si può fare alcuna espiazione per il paese, per il sangue che in esso è stato versato se non mediante il sangue di chi l'ha versato. |
| 34 | Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel. | Non contaminerete dunque il paese che abitate, e in mezzo al quale io dimoro, poiché io sono l'Eterno che dimoro in mezzo ai figli d'Israele. |
