| 2 | Fais la vengeance des enfants d'Israël sur les Madianites, puis tu seras recueilli vers tes peuples. | Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people. |
| 3 | Moïse donc parla au peuple, en disant: Que quelques-uns d'entre vous s'équipent pour aller à la guerre, et qu'ils aillent contre Madian, pour exécuter la vengeance de l'Eternel sur Madian. | And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm ye men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Jehovah`s vengeance on Midian. |
| 4 | Vous enverrez à la guerre mille hommes de chaque Tribu, de toutes les tribus d'Israël. | Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war. |
| 5 | On donna donc d'entre les milliers d'Israël mille hommes de chaque Tribu, qui furent douze mille hommes équipés pour la guerre. | So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. |
| 6 | Et Moïse les envoya à la guerre, savoir mille de chaque Tribu, et avec eux Phinées, fils d'Eiéazar le Sacrificateur, qui avait les vaisseaux du Sanctuaire, et les trompettes de retentissement en sa main. | And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand. |
| 7 | Ils marchèrent donc en guerre contre Madian, comme l'Eternel l'avait commandé à Moïse, et ils en tuèrent tous les mâles. | And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah commanded Moses; and they slew every male. |
| 8 | Ils tuèrent aussi les Rois de Madian, outre les autres qui y furent tués, savoir Evi, Rékem, Tsur, Hur, et Rébah, cinq Rois de Madian; ils firent aussi passer au fil de l'épée Balaam fils de Béhor. | And they slew the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. |
| 9 | Et les enfants d'Israël emmenèrent prisonniers les femmes de Madian, avec leurs petits enfants, et pillèrent tout leur gros et menu bétail, et tout ce qui était en leur puissance. | And the children of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took for a prey. |
| 10 | ); | And all their cities in the places wherein they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire. |
| 11 | Et ils prirent tout le butin et tout le pillage, tant des hommes que du bétail. | And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of man and of beast. |
| 12 | Puis ils amenèrent les prisonniers, le pillage, et le butin, à Moïse et à Eléazar le Sacrificateur, et à l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, au camp dans les campagnes de Moab, qui sont près du Jourdain de Jéricho. | And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho. |
| 13 | Alors Moïse et Eléazar le Sacrificateur, et tous les principaux de l'assemblée sortirent au devant d'eux hors du camp. | And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp. |
| 14 | Et Moïse se mit en grande colère contre les Capitaines de l'armée, les chefs des milliers, et les chefs des centaines, qui retournaient de cet exploit de guerre. | And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war. |
| 15 | Et Moïse leur dit: N'avez-vous pas gardé en vie toutes les femmes? | And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? |
| 16 | Voici ce sont elles qui à la parole de Balaam, ont donné occasion aux enfants d'Israël de pécher contre l'Eternel au fait de Péhor ce qui attira la plaie sur l'assemblée de l'Eternel. | Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Jehovah. |
| 17 | Or maintenant tuez tous les mâles d'entre les petits enfants, et tuez toute femme qui aura eu compagnie d'homme. | Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. |
| 18 | Mais vous garderez en vie toutes les jeunes filles qui n'ont point eu compagnie d'homme. | But all the women-children, that have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. |
| 19 | Au reste, demeurez sept jours hors du camp. Quiconque tuera quelqu'un, et quiconque touchera quelqu'un qui aura été tué, se purifiera le troisième et le septième jour, tant vous que vos prisonniers. | And encamp ye without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, ye and your captives. |
| 20 | Vous purifierez aussi tous vos vêtements, et tout ce qui sera fait de peau, et tous ouvrages de poil de chèvre, et toute vaisselle de bois. | And as to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats` [hair], and all things made of wood, ye shall purify yourselves. |
| 21 | Et Eléazar le Sacrificateur dit aux hommes de guerre qui étaient allés à la bataille: Voici l'ordonnance et la Loi que l'Eternel a commandée à Moïse. | And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war that went to the battle, This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses: |
| 22 | En général l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, l'étain, le plomb; | howbeit the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, |
| 23 | Tout ce qui peut passer par le feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu, et il sera net; seulement on le purifiera avec l'eau d'aspersion; mais vous ferez passer par l'eau toutes les choses qui ne passent point par le feu. | everything that may abide the fire, ye shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make to go through the water. |
| 24 | Vous laverez aussi vos vêtements le septième-jour, et vous serez nets, puis vous entrerez au camp. | And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean; and afterward ye shall come into the camp. |
| 25 | Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, en disant: | And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, |
| 26 | Fais le compte du butin, et de tout ce qu'on a emmené, tant des personnes que des bêtes, toi et Eléazar le Sacrificateur, et les chefs des pères de l'assemblée. | Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers` [houses] of the congregation; |
| 27 | Et partage par moitié le butin entre les combattants qui sont allés à la guerre, et toute l'assemblée. | and divide the prey into two parts: between the men skilled in war, that went out to battle, and all the congregation. |
| 28 | Tu lèveras aussi pour l'Eternel un tribut des gens de guerre qui sont allés à la bataille, savoir de cinq cents un, tant des personnes que des boeufs, des ânes et des brebis. | And levy a tribute unto Jehovah of the men of war that went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, [both] of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the asses, and of the flocks: |
| 29 | On le prendra de leur moitié, et tu le donneras à Eléazar le Sacrificateur, en offrande élevée à l'Eternel. | take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for Jehovah`s heave-offering. |
| 30 | Et de l'autre moitié qui appartient aux enfants d'Israël, tu en prendras à part de cinquante un, tant des personnes que des boeufs, des ânes, des brebis et de tous autres animaux, et tu le donneras aux Lévites qui ont la charge de garder le pavillon de l'Eternel. | And of the children of Israel`s half, thou shalt take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the flocks, [even] of all the cattle, and give them unto the Levites, that keep the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah. |
| 31 | Et Moïse et Eléazar le Sacrificateur firent comme l'Eternel l'avait commandé à Moïse. | And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Jehovah commanded Moses. |
| 32 | Or le butin, qui était resté du pillage que le peuple qui était allé à la guerre, avait fait, était de six cent soixante et quinze mille brebis; | Now the prey, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, |
| 33 | De soixante et douze mille boeufs; | and threescore and twelve thousand oxen, |
| 34 | De soixante et un mille ânes. | and threescore and one thousand asses, |
| 35 | Et quant aux femmes qui n'avaient point eu compagnie d'homme, elles étaient en tout trente-deux mille âmes. | and thirty and two thousand persons in all, of the women that had not known man by lying with him. |
| 36 | Et la moitié du butin, savoir la part de ceux qui étaient allés à la guerre, montait à trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis. | And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep: |
| 37 | Dont le tribut pour l'Eternel, quant aux brebis, fut de six cent soixante et quinze. | and Jehovah`s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen. |
| 38 | Et à trente-six mille boeufs; dont le tribut pour l'Eternel, quant aux boeufs, fut de soixante et douze boeufs. | And the oxen were thirty and six thousand; of which Jehovah`s tribute was threescore and twelve. |
| 39 | Et à trente mille cinq cents ânes; dont le tribut pour l'Eternel, quant aux ânes, fut de soixante et un ânes. | And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which Jehovah`s tribute was threescore and one. |
| 40 | Et à seize mille personnes; dont le tribut pour l'Eternel fut de trente-deux personnes. | And the persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Jehovah`s tribute was thirty and two persons. |
| 41 | Et Moïse donna à Eléazar le Sacrificateur le tribut de l'offrande élevée de l'Eternel, comme l'Eternel le lui avait commandé. | And Moses gave the tribute, which was Jehovah`s heave-offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah commanded Moses. |
| 42 | Et de l'autre moitié qui appartenait aux enfants d'Israël, laquelle Moïse avait tirée des hommes qui étaient allés à la guerre. | And of the children of Israel`s half, which Moses divided off from the men that warred |
| 43 | Or de cette moitié qui fut pour l'assemblée, et qui montait à trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis; | (now the congregation`s half was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred sheep, |
| 44 | A trente-six mille boeufs; | and thirty and six thousand oxen, |
| 45 | A trente mille cinq cents ânes; | and thirty thousand and five hundred asses, |
| 46 | Et à seize mille personnes; | and sixteen thousand persons), |
| 47 | De cette moitié, dis-je, qui appartenait aux enfants d'Israël, Moïse prit à part de cinquante un, tant des personnes que des bêtes, et les donna aux Lévites qui avaient la charge de garder le pavillon de l'Eternel, comme l'Eternel le lui avait commandé. | even of the children of Israel`s half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, that kept the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses. |
| 48 | Et les capitaines qui avaient charge des milliers de l'armée, tant les chefs des milliers, que les chefs des centaines, s'approchèrent de Moïse, | And the officers that were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses; |
| 49 | Et lui dirent: Tes serviteurs ont fait le compte des gens de guerre qui sont sous notre charge, et il ne s'en manque pas un seul. | and they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war that are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us. |
| 50 | C'est pourquoi nous offrons l'offrande de l'Eternel, chacun ce qu'il s'est trouvé avoir, des joyaux d'or, des jarretières, des bracelets, des anneaux, des pendants d'oreilles, et des colliers, afin de faire propitiation pour nos personnes devant l'Eternel. | And we have brought Jehovah`s oblation, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, ankle-chains, and bracelets, signet-rings, ear-rings, and armlets, to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah. |
| 51 | Et Moïse et Eléazar le Sacrificateur reçurent d'eux l'or, savoir toute pièce d'ouvrage. | And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels. |
| 52 | Et tout l'or de l'offrande élevée qui fut présenté à l'Eternel de la part des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, montait à seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles. | And all the gold of the heave-offering that they offered up to Jehovah, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. |
| 53 | Or les gens de guerre retinrent chacun pour soi ce qu'ils avaient pillé. | ([For] the men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.) |
| 54 | Moïse donc et Eléazar le Sacrificateur prirent des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines cet or-là, et l'apportèrent au Tabernacle d'assignation, en mémorial pour les enfants d'Israël, devant l'Eternel. | And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel before Jehovah. |
