| 1 | And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams. | Poi Balaam disse a Balak: Costruiscimi qui sette altari e preparami qui sette torelli e sette montoni. |
| 2 | And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram. | Balak fece come Balaam aveva detto, quindi Balak e Balaam offrirono un torello e un montone su ciascun altare. |
| 3 | And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place. | Balaam disse poi a Balak: Rimani presso il tuo olocausto e io andrò: forse l'Eterno verrà ad incontrarmi; e quel che mi mostrerà io te lo riferirò. Così egli andò su un'altura brulla. |
| 4 | And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram. | E DIO venne incontro a Balaam, e Balaam gli disse: lo ho preparato sette altari, e ho offerto un torello e un montone su ciascun altare. |
| 5 | And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak. | Allora l'Eterno mise un messaggio in bocca a Balaam e gli disse: Torna da Balak e parla così. |
| 6 | And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab. | Ritornò da lui, ed ecco che egli stava presso l'olocausto, lui e tutti i principi di Moab. |
| 7 | And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. | Allora Balaam pronunciò il suo oracolo e disse: Balak, il re di Moab, mi ha fatto venire da Aram, dai monti d'Oriente: "Vieni, maledici per me Giacobbe, vieni, accusa Israele!". |
| 8 | How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? | Come posso maledire colui che Dio non ha maledetto? Come posso accusare colui che l'Eterno non ha accusato? |
| 9 | For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. | Io lo vedo dalla cima delle rupi e lo contemplo dalle alture; ecco, è un popolo che dimora solo e non è annoverato fra le nazioni. |
| 10 | Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his! | Chi può calcolare la polvere di Giacobbe o contare il quarto d'Israele? Possa io morire della morte dei giusti e possa la mia fine essere come la loro!. |
| 11 | And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. | Allora Balak disse a Balaam: Che mi hai fatto? Ti ho preso per maledire i miei nemici, invece tu li hai grandemente benedetti. |
| 12 | And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth? | Ma egli rispose e disse: Non devo io farmi premura di dire ciò che l'Eterno mi mette in bocca?. |
| 13 | And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence. | Poi Balak gli disse: Deh, vieni con me in un altro luogo, da dove tu lo possa vedere, anche se ne vedrai solo l'estremità e non lo potrai vedere tutto quanto, e di là lo maledirai per me. |
| 14 | And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar. | Così lo condusse al campo di Tsofim, sulla cima del Pisgah; costruì sette altari e offrì un torello e un montone su ciascun altare. |
| 15 | And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder. | Balaam quindi disse a Balak: Rimani qui presso il tuo olocausto e io andrò a incontrare l'Eterno lassù. |
| 16 | And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. | E l'Eterno si fece incontro a Balaam, gli mise un messaggio in bocca e gli disse: Torna da Balak e parla così. |
| 17 | And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? | Così ritornò da lui, ed ecco che egli stava presso il suo olocausto con i principi di Moab. Balak gli disse: Che cosa ha detto l'Eterno?. |
| 18 | And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: | Allora Balaam pronunciò il suo oracolo e disse: Levati, Balak, e ascolta! Porgimi orecchio, figlio di Tsippor! |
| 19 | God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? | Dio non è un uomo, perché possa mentire, né un figlio d'uomo, perché possa pentirsi. Quando ha detto una cosa, non la farà? O quando ha dichiarato una cosa, non la compirà? |
| 20 | Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. | Ecco, ho ricevuto l'ordine di benedire; si, egli ha benedetto e io non revocherò la benedizione. |
| 21 | He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. | Egli non ha scorto iniquità in Giacobbe e non ha visto perversità in Israele. L'Eterno, il suo DIO, è con lui, e il grido di un re è tra di loro. |
| 22 | God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. | Dio, che lo ha fatto uscire dall'Egitto, è per lui come le corna poderose del bufalo. |
| 23 | Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! | Non c'è sortilegio contro Giacobbe, non c'è divinazione contro Israele. Ora bisogna dire di Giacobbe e d'Israele che cosa Dio ha compiuto. |
| 24 | Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. | Ecco, un popolo si leverà come una leonessa e si rizzerà come un leone; e non si accovaccerà prima di aver divorato la preda e di aver bevuto il sangue di quelli che ha ucciso. |
| 25 | And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. | Allora Balak disse a Balaam: Non maledirlo affatto, ma neppure benedicilo. |
| 26 | But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do? | Ma Balaam rispose e disse a Balak: Non ti ho, forse detto che io avrei fatto tutto ciò che l'Eterno avrebbe detto?. |
| 27 | And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. | Balak disse quindi a Balaam: Deh, vieni, io ti condurrò in un altro luogo; forse piacerà a DIO che di là tu lo maledica per me. |
| 28 | And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon. | Così Balak condusse Balaam in cima al Peor che sovrasta il deserto. |
| 29 | And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. | E Balaam disse a Balak: Costruiscimi qui sette altari e preparami qui sette torelli e sette montoni. |
