And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.Alors toute l'assemblée s'éleva, et se mit à jeter des cris, et le peuple pleura cette nuit-là.And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!
And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And wherefore doth Jehovah bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:Et Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jéphunné, qui étaient de ceux qui avaient examiné le pays, déchirèrent leurs vêtements;And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of them that spied out the land, rent their clothes:
And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.Et parlèrent à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, en disant: Le pays par lequel nous avons passé pour le reconnaître est un fort bon pays.and they spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. If Jehovah delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it unto us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. Only rebel not against Jehovah, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is removed from over them, and Jehovah is with us: fear them not.
But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of Jehovah appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel.
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: Jusques-à quand ce peuple-ci m'irritera-t-il par mépris, et jusques-à quand ne croira-t-il point en moi, après tous les signes que j'ai faits au milieu de lui?And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?
I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.Je le frapperai de mortalité, et je le détruirai; mais je te ferai devenir un peuple plus grand et plus fort qu'il n'est.I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.
And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)Et Moïse dit à l'Eternel: Mais les Egyptiens l'entendront, car tu as fait monter par ta force ce peuple-ci du milieu d'eux.And Moses said unto Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it; for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. They have heard that thou Jehovah art in the midst of this people; for thou Jehovah art seen face to face, and thy cloud standeth over them, and thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,Quand tu auras fait mourir ce peuple, comme un seul homme, les nations qui auront entendu parler de ton Nom, tiendront ce langage.Now if thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness. Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,Or maintenant, je te prie, que la puissance du Seigneur soit magnifiée, comme tu as parlé, en disant:And now, I pray thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.L'Eternel est tardif à colère, et abondant en gratuité, ôtant l'iniquité, et le péché, et qui ne tient nullement le coupable pour innocent, punissant l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants, jusqu'à la troisième et à la quatrième génération.Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; and that will by no means clear [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. Pardon, I pray thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy lovingkindness, and according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:Et l'Eternel dit: J'ai pardonné selon ta parole.And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.Mais certainement je suis vivant, et la gloire de l'Eternel remplira toute la terre.but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Jehovah;
Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;Car quant à tous les hommes qui ont vu ma gloire, et les signes que j ai faits en Egypte et au désert qui m'ont déjà tenté par dix fois, et qui n ont point obéi à ma voix;because all those men that have seen my glory, and my signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:S'ils voient jamais le pays que j'avais juré à leurs pères de leur donner, tous ceux, dis-je, qui m'ont irrité par mépris, ne le verront point.surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised me see it:
But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.Mais parce que mon serviteur Caleb a été animé d'un autre esprit, et qu'il a persévéré à me suivre, aussi le ferai-je entrer au pays où il a été, et sa postérité le possédera en héritage.but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea. Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: to-morrow turn ye, and get you into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,L'Eternel parla aussi à Moïse et à Aaron, en disant:And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.Jusques à quand continuera cette méchante assemblée qui murmure contre moi? How long [shall I bear] with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:Dis-leur: Je suis vivant, dit l'Eternel, si je ne vous fais ainsi que vous avez parlé, et comme je l'ai ouï.Say unto them, As I live, saith Jehovah, surely as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.Vos charognes tomberont dans ce désert, et tous ceux d'entre vous qui ont été dénombrés selon tout le compte que vous en avez fait, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, vous tous qui avez murmuré contre moi;your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, that have murmured against me,
Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.Si vous entrez au pays, pour lequel j'avais levé ma main, jurant que je vous y ferais habiter, excepté Caleb, fils de Jéphunné, et Josué, fils de Nun.surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. But your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected.
But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your whoredoms, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my alienation.
I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. I, Jehovah, have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,Les hommes donc que Moïse avait envoyés pour épier le pays, et qui étant de retour avaient fait murmurer contre lui toute l'assemblée, en diffamant le pays;And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.Ces hommes-là qui avaient décrié le pays, moururent de plaie devant l'Eternel.even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah.
But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land.
And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly. And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned. And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which Jehovah hath promised: for we have sinned.
And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper. And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it shall not prosper?
Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.N'y montez point; car l'Eternel n'est point au milieu de vous; afin que vous ne soyez pas battus devant vos ennemis.Go not up, for Jehovah is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies.
For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you. For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you.
But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah. Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who dwelt in that mountain, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.
