Redonneront-ils vie à des pierres ensevelies sous des monceaux de poussière et consumées par le feu ? | And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned? | e disse davanti ai suoi fratelli e ai soldati di Samaria: Che cosa stanno facendo questi rammolliti Giudei? Si un renard s'élance, il renversera leur muraille de pierres ! | Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they are building, if a fox go up, he shall break down their stone wall. | Tobiah l'Ammonita, che gli stava a fianco, disse: Costruiscano pure! Fais retomber leurs insultes sur leur tête, et livre-les au pillage sur une terre où ils soient captifs. | Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn back their reproach upon their own head, and give them up for a spoil in a land of captivity; | Ascolta, o DIO nostro, perché siamo disprezzati! Fa' ricadere sul loro capo il loro vituperio e abbandonali al saccheggio in un paese di schiavitù! |
| 5 | Ne pardonne pas leur iniquité, et que leur péché ne soit pas effacé de devant toi ; car ils ont offensé ceux qui bâtissent. | and cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee; for they have provoked [thee] to anger before the builders. | Non coprire la loro iniquità e non permettere che il loro peccato sia cancellato davanti a te, perché ti hanno provocato ad ira davanti ai costruttori. |

| 7 | Mais Sanballat, Tobija, les Arabes, les Ammonites et les Asdodiens, furent très irrités en apprenant que la réparation des murs avançait et que les brèches commençaient à se fermer. | But it came to pass that, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem went forward, [and] that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth; | Quando però Sanballat, Tobiah, gli Arabi, gli Ammoniti e gli Asdodei vennero a sapere che la riparazione delle mura di Gerusalemme, progrediva e che le brecce cominciavano a chiudersi, si adirarono grandemente, |

| 11 | Et nos ennemis disaient : Ils ne sauront et ne verront rien jusqu'à ce que nous arrivions au milieu d'eux ; nous les tuerons, et nous ferons ainsi cesser l'ouvrage. | And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come into the midst of them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease. | Inoltre i nostri avversari dicevano: Essi non sapranno e non vedranno nulla, finché noi piomberemo in mezzo a loro e li uccideremo; così faremo cessare i lavori. |
| 12 | Or les Juifs qui habitaient près d'eux vinrent dix fois nous avertir, de tous les lieux d'où ils se rendaient vers nous. | And it came to pass that, when the Jews that dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times from all places, Ye must return unto us. | Ma quando i Giudei che dimoravano vicino a loro vennero per ben dieci volte a dirci: Da qualsiasi parte vi volgerete, ci saranno addosso, |
| 13 | C'est pourquoi je plaçai, dans les enfoncements derrière la muraille et sur des terrains secs, le peuple par familles, tous avec leurs épées, leurs lances et leurs arcs. | Therefore set I in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in the open places, I set [there] the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. | io disposi uomini armati nei luoghi più bassi dietro le mura; vi disposi il popolo per famiglie, con le loro spade, le loro lance e i loro archi. |
| 14 | Je regardai, et m'étant levé, je dis aux grands, aux magistrats, et au reste du peuple : Ne les craignez pas ! Souvenez-vous du Seigneur, grand et redoutable, et combattez pour vos frères, pour vos fils et vos filles, pour vos femmes et pour vos maisons ! | And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, who is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses. | Dopo aver esaminato la cosa mi levai e dissi ai notabili, ai magistrati e al resto del popolo: Non abbiate paura di loro! | 15 | Lorsque nos ennemis apprirent que nous étions avertis, Dieu anéantit leur projet, et nous retournâmes tous à la muraille, chacun à son ouvrage. | And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work. | Quando i nostri nemici seppero che eravamo informati della cosa e che DIO aveva fatto fallire il loro disegno, noi tutti tornammo alle mura, ciascuno al suo lavoro. |
| 16 | Depuis ce jour, la moitié de mes serviteurs travaillait, et l'autre moitié était armée de lances, de boucliers, d'arcs et de cuirasses. Les chefs étaient derrière toute la maison de Juda. | And it came to pass from that time forth, that half of my servants wrought in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. | Da quel giorno, la metà dei miei servi si occupava dei lavori, mentre l'altra metà impugnava le lance, gli scudi, gli archi e indossava le corazze; i capi erano dietro tutta la casa di Giuda. |

| 18 | chacun d'eux, en travaillant, avait son épée ceinte autour des reins. Celui qui sonnait de la trompette se tenait près de moi. | and the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. | 19 | Je dis aux grands, aux magistrats, et au reste du peuple : L'ouvrage est considérable et étendu, et nous sommes dispersés sur la muraille, éloignés les uns des autres. | And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another: | lo dissi allora ai notabili, ai magistrati e al resto del popolo: Il lavoro è grande ed esteso, e noi siamo sparsi sulle mura, distanti l'uno dall'altro. |

| 21 | C'est ainsi que nous poursuivions l'ouvrage, la moitié d'entre nous la lance à la main depuis le lever de l'aurore jusqu'à l'apparition des étoiles. | So we wrought in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared. | Così proseguivamo il lavoro, mentre la metà degli uomini impugnava la lancia dallo spuntare dell'alba fino all'apparire delle stelle. |
| 22 | Dans ce même temps, je dis encore au peuple : Que chacun passe la nuit dans Jérusalem avec son serviteur ; faisons la garde pendant la nuit, et travaillons pendant le jour. | Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and may labor in the day. | Nello stesso tempo dissi pure al popolo: Ciascuno di voi rimanga con il suo servo dentro Gerusalemme, per fare la guardia per noi di notte e lavorare poi di giorno. |
| 23 | Et nous ne quittions point nos vêtements, ni moi, ni mes frères, ni mes serviteurs, ni les hommes de garde qui me suivaient ; chacun n'avait que ses armes et de l'eau. | So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard that followed me, none of us put off our clothes, every one [went with] his weapon [to] the water. | Così, né io né i miei fratelli né i miei servi né gli uomini di guardia che mi seguivano, ci toglievamo i vestiti; ma ognuno aveva la sua arma con acqua. |
