| 4 | Il lui répondit : "Il est écrit : L'homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu." | But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. |
| 5 | Alors le diable l'emmena dans la ville sainte, et, l'ayant posé sur le pinacle du temple, | Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, |
| 6 | il lui dit : "Si vous êtes fils de Dieu, jetez-vous en bas; car il est écrit : Il donnera pour vous des ordres à ses anges, et ils vous prendront sur leurs mains, de peur que votre pied ne heurte contre une pierre." | and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. |
| 7 | Jésus lui dit : "Il est écrit aussi : Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur, ton Dieu." | Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. |
| 8 | Le diable, de nouveau, l'emmena sur une montagne très élevée, et lui montrant tous les royaumes du monde, avec leur gloire, | Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; |
| 9 | il lui dit : "Je vous donnerai tout cela, si, tombant à mes pieds, vous vous prosternez devant moi. | and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. |
| 10 | Alors Jésus lui dit : "Retire-toi, Satan; car il est écrit : Tu adoreras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, et tu ne serviras que lui seul." | Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. |
| 11 | Alors le diable le laissa, et voilà que des anges s'approchèrent pour le servir. | Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him. |
| 12 | Quand Jésus eut appris que Jean avait été livré, il se retira en Galilée. | Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee; |
| 13 | Et quittant Nazareth, il vint demeurer à Capharnaüm, sur les bords de la mer, aux confins de Zabulon et de Nephtali, | and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: |
| 14 | afin que s'accomplît cette parole du prophète Isaïe : | that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, |
| 15 | Terre de Zabulon et terre de Nephtali, vers la mer, pays au delà du Jourdain, Galilée des Gentils ! | The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, |
| 16 | Le peuple qui était assis dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière; et pour ceux qui étaient assis dans la région de l'ombre de la mort, une lumière s'est levée ! | The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up. |
| 17 | Dès lors Jésus commença à prêcher, en disant : "Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche." | From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. |
| 18 | Comme il marchait le long de la mer de Galilée, il vit deux frères, Simon, dit Pierre, et André son frère, qui jetaient le filet dans la mer; car ils étaient pêcheurs. | And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. |
| 19 | Et il leur dit : "Suivez-moi, et je vous ferai pêcheurs d'hommes." | And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. |
| 20 | Eux aussitôt, laissant leurs filets, le suivirent. | And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. |
| 21 | S'avançant plus loin, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère, dans une barque, avec leur père Zébédée, réparant leurs filets, et il les appela. | And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. |
| 22 | Eux, laissant à l'heure même leur barque et leur père, le suivirent. | And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him. |
| 23 | Et Jésus parcourait toute la Galilée, enseignant dans leurs synagogues, prêchant la bonne nouvelle du royaume, et guérissant toute maladie et toute infirmité parmi le peuple. | And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. |
| 24 | Sa renommée se répandit par toute la Syrie, et on lui amenait tous les malades atteints d'infirmités et de souffrances diverses, des démoniaques, des lunatiques, des paralytiques, et il les guérissait. | And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them. |
| 25 | Et des foules nombreuses le suivirent de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de la Judée et d'au delà du Jourdain. | And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and [from] beyond the Jordan. |
