| 1 | And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, | Et il arriva que quand Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses Disciples: |
| 2 | Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. | Vous savez que la Fête de Pâque est dans deux jours; et le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié. |
| 3 | Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, | Alors les principaux Sacrificateurs, et les Scribes, et les Anciens du peuple s'assemblèrent dans la salle du souverain Sacrificateur, appelé Caïphe; |
| 4 | And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. | Et tinrent conseil ensemble pour se saisir de Jésus par finesse, afin de le faire mourir. |
| 5 | But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. | Mais ils disaient: que ce ne soit point durant la Fête, de peur qu'il ne se fasse quelque émotion parmi le peuple. |
| 6 | Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, | Et comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, |
| 7 | There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. | Il vint à lui une femme qui avait un vase d'albâtre plein d'un parfum de grand prix, et qui le répandit sur sa tête, lorsqu'il était à table. |
| 8 | But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? | Mais ses Disciples voyant cela, en furent indignés, et dirent: à quoi sert cette perte? |
| 9 | For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. | Car ce parfum pouvait être vendu beaucoup, et être donné aux pauvres. |
| 10 | When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. | Mais Jésus connaissant cela, leur dit: pourquoi donnez-vous du déplaisir à cette femme? car elle a fait une bonne action envers moi. |
| 11 | For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. | Parce que vous aurez toujours des pauvres avec vous; mais vous ne m'aurez pas toujours. |
| 12 | For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. | Car ce qu'elle a répandu ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait pour l'appareil de ma sépulture. |
| 13 | Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. | En vérité je vous dis, que dans tous les endroits du monde où cet Evangile sera prêché, ce qu'elle a fait sera aussi récité en mémoire d'elle. |
| 14 | Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, | Alors l'un des douze, appelé Judas Iscariot, s'en alla vers les principaux Sacrificateurs, |
| 15 | And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. | Et leur dit: que me voulez-vous donner, et je vous le livrerai? Et ils lui comptèrent trente pièces d'argent. |
| 16 | And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. | Et dès lors il cherchait une occasion pour le livrer. |
| 17 | Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? | Or le premier jour des pains sans levain, les Disciples vinrent à Jésus, en lui disant: où veux-tu que nous t'apprêtions à manger la Pâque? |
| 18 | And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. | Et il répondit: allez à la ville vers un tel, et dites-lui: le Maître dit: mon temps est proche; je ferai la Pâque chez toi avec mes Disciples. |
| 19 | And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. | Et les Disciples firent comme Jésus leur avait ordonné, et préparèrent la Pâque. |
| 20 | Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. | Or quand le soir fut venu, il se mit à table avec les douze. |
| 21 | And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. | Et comme ils mangeaient, il leur dit: en vérité je vous dis, que l'un de vous me trahira. |
| 22 | And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? | Et ils en furent fort attristés, et chacun d'eux commença à lui dire: Seigneur, est-ce moi? |
| 23 | And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. | Mais il leur répondit, et dit: celui qui met sa main au plat pour tremper avec moi, c'est celui qui me trahira. |
| 24 | The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. | Or le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon qu'il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à cet homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi; il eût été bon à cet homme-là de n'être point né. |
| 25 | Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. | Et Judas qui le trahissait, répondant dit: Maître, est-ce moi? Jésus lui dit: tu l'as dit. |
| 26 | And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. | Et comme ils mangeaient, Jésus prit le pain, et après qu'il eut béni Dieu, il le rompit et le donna à ses Disciples, et leur dit: prenez, mangez; ceci est mon corps. |
| 27 | And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; | Puis ayant pris la coupe, et béni Dieu, il la leur donna, en leur disant: buvez-en tous. |
| 28 | For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. | Car ceci est mon sang, le sang du Nouveau Testament, qui est répandu pour plusieurs en rémission des péchés. |
| 29 | But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. | Or je vous dis: que depuis cette heure je ne boirai point de ce fruit de vigne, jusqu'au jour que je le boirai nouveau avec vous, dans le Royaume de mon Père. |
| 30 | And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. | Et quand ils eurent chanté le Cantique, ils s'en allèrent à la montagne des oliviers. |
| 31 | Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. | Alors Jésus leur dit: vous serez tous cette nuit scandalisés à cause de moi; car il est écrit: je frapperai le Berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées. |
| 32 | But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. | Mais après que je serai ressuscité, j'irai devant vous en Galilée. |
| 33 | Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. | Et Pierre prenant la parole, lui dit: quand même tous seraient scandalisés à cause de toi, je ne le serai jamais. |
| 34 | Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. | Jésus lui dit: en vérité je te dis, qu'en cette même nuit, avant que le coq ait chanté, tu me renieras trois fois. |
| 35 | Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. | Pierre lui dit: quand même il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai point; et tous les Disciples dirent la même chose. |
| 36 | Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. | Alors Jésus s'en vint avec eux en un lieu appelé Gethsémané; et il dit à ses Disciples: asseyez-vous ici, jusques à ce que j'aie prié dans le lieu où je vais. |
| 37 | And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. | Et il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, et il commença à être attristé et fort angoissé. |
| 38 | Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. | Alors il leur dit: mon âme est de toutes parts saisie de tristesse jusques à la mort; demeurez ici, et veillez avec moi. |
| 39 | And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. | Puis s'en allant un peu plus avant, il se prosterna le visage contre terre, priant, et disant: mon Père, s'il est possible, fais que cette coupe passe loin de moi; toutefois non point comme je le veux, mais comme tu le veux. |
| 40 | And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? | Puis il vint à ses Disciples, et les trouva dormants, et il dit à Pierre: est-il possible que vous n'ayez pu veiller une heure avec moi? |
| 41 | Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. | Veillez, et priez que vous n'entriez point en tentation: car l'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible. |
| 42 | He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. | Il s'en alla encore pour la seconde fois, et il pria, disant: mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe passe loin de moi, sans que je la boive; que ta volonté soit faite. |
| 43 | And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. | Il revint ensuite, et les trouva encore dormants; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis. |
| 44 | And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. | Et les ayant laissés, il s'en alla encore, et pria pour la troisième fois, disant les mêmes paroles. |
| 45 | Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. | Alors il vint à ses Disciples, et leur dit: Dormez dorénavant, et vous reposez; voici, l'heure est proche, et le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des méchants. |
| 46 | Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. | Levez-vous, allons, voici, celui qui me trahit s'approche. |
| 47 | And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. | Et comme il parlait encore, voici, Judas, l'un des douze, vint, et avec lui une grande troupe, avec des épées et des bâtons, envoyés de la part des principaux Sacrificateurs, et des Anciens du peuple. |
| 48 | Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. | Or celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné un signal, disant: celui que je baiserai, c'est lui, saisissez-le. |
| 49 | And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. | Et aussitôt s'approchant de Jésus, il lui dit: Maître, je te salue; et il le baisa. |
| 50 | And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him. | Et Jésus lui dit: mon ami, pour quel sujet es-tu ici? Alors s'étant approchés, ils mirent les mains sur Jésus, et le saisirent. |
| 51 | And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. | Et voici, l'un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, portant la main sur son épée, la tira, et en frappa le serviteur du souverain Sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille. |
| 52 | Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. | Alors Jésus lui dit: Remets ton épée en son lieu; car tous ceux qui auront pris l'épée, périront par l'épée. |
| 53 | Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? | Crois-tu que je ne puisse pas maintenant prier mon Père, qui me donnerait présentement plus de douze Légions d'Anges? |
| 54 | But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? | Mais comment seraient accomplies les Ecritures qui disent qu'il faut que cela arrive ainsi. |
| 55 | In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. | En ce même instant Jésus dit aux troupes: vous êtes sortis avec des épées et des bâtons, comme après un brigand, pour me prendre; j'étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le Temple, et vous ne m'avez point saisi. |
| 56 | But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. | Mais tout ceci est arrivé afin que les Ecritures des Prophètes soient accomplies. Alors tous les Disciples l'abandonnèrent, et s'enfuirent. |
| 57 | And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. | Et ceux qui avaient pris Jésus l'amenèrent chez Caïphe, souverain Sacrificateur, chez qui les Scribes et les Anciens étaient assemblés. |
| 58 | But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. | Et Pierre le suivait de loin, jusques à la cour du souverain Sacrificateur, et étant entré dedans, il s'assit avec les officiers pour voir quelle en serait la fin. |
| 59 | Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; | Or les principaux Sacrificateurs, et les Anciens, et tout le Conseil cherchaient de faux témoignages contre Jésus, pour le faire mourir. |
| 60 | But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, | Mais ils n'en trouvaient point; et bien que plusieurs faux témoins fussent venus, ils n'en trouvèrent point de propres; mais à la fin deux faux témoins s'approchèrent, |
| 61 | And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. | Qui dirent: celui-ci a dit: je puis détruire le Temple de Dieu, et le rebâtir en trois jours. |
| 62 | And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? | Alors le souverain Sacrificateur se leva, et lui dit: ne réponds-tu rien? qu'est-ce que ceux-ci témoignent contre toi? |
| 63 | But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. | Mais Jésus se tut. Et le souverain Sacrificateur prenant la parole, lui dit: je te somme par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu. |
| 64 | Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. | Jésus lui dit: tu l'as dit; de plus, je vous dis, que désormais vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la Puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel. |
| 65 | Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. | Alors le souverain Sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, en disant: Il a blasphémé; qu'avons-nous plus affaire de témoins? Voici, vous avez ouï maintenant son blasphème; que vous en semble? |
| 66 | What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. | Ils répondirent: il est digne de mort. |
| 67 | Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, | Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage, et les uns lui donnaient des soufflets, et les autres le frappaient de leurs verges; |
| 68 | Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee? | En lui disant: Christ, prophétise-nous qui est celui qui t'a frappé. |
| 69 | Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. | Or Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour, et une servante s'approcha de lui, et lui dit: tu étais aussi avec Jésus le Galiléen. |
| 70 | But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. | Mais il le nia devant tous, en disant: je ne sais ce que tu dis. |
| 71 | And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. | Et comme il était sorti dans le vestibule, une autre servante le vit, et elle dit à ceux qui étaient là: celui-ci aussi était avec Jésus le Nazarien. |
| 72 | And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. | Et il le nia encore avec serment, disant: je ne connais point cet homme. |
| 73 | And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. | Et un peu après, ceux qui se trouvaient là s'approchèrent, et dirent à Pierre: certainement tu es aussi de ces gens-là, car ton langage te donne à connaître. |
| 74 | Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. | Alors il commença à faire des imprécations, et à jurer, en disant: je ne connais point cet homme; et aussitôt le coq chanta. |
| 75 | And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. | Et Pierre se souvint de la parole de Jésus, qui lui avait dit: avant que le coq ait chanté, tu me renieras trois fois: et étant sorti dehors, il pleura amèrement. |
