| 1 | And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, | Alors Jésus prenant la parole, leur parla encore par similitudes, disant: |
| 2 | The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, | Le Royaume des cieux est semblable à un Roi qui fit les noces de son fils. |
| 3 | And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. | Et il envoya ses serviteurs pour appeler ceux qui avaient été conviés aux noces; mais ils n'y voulurent point venir. |
| 4 | Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. | Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, disant: dites à ceux qui étaient conviés: voici, j'ai apprêté mon dîner; mes taureaux et mes bêtes grasses sont tuées, et tout est prêt; venez aux noces. |
| 5 | But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: | Mais eux n'en tenant point de compte, s'en allèrent l'un à sa métairie, et l'autre à son trafic. |
| 6 | And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. | Et les autres prirent ses serviteurs, et les outragèrent, et les tuèrent. |
| 7 | But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. | Quand le Roi l'entendit, il se mit en colère, et y ayant envoyé ses troupes, il fit périr ces meurtriers-là, et brûla leur ville. |
| 8 | Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. | Puis il dit à ses serviteurs: Eh bien! les noces sont apprêtées, mais ceux qui y étaient conviés n'en étaient pas dignes. |
| 9 | Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. | Allez donc aux carrefours des chemins, et autant de gens que vous trouverez, conviez-les aux noces. |
| 10 | So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. | Alors ses serviteurs allèrent dans les chemins, et assemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, tant mauvais que bons, tellement que le lieu des noces fut rempli de gens qui étaient à table. |
| 11 | And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: | Et le Roi étant entré pour voir ceux qui étaient à table, il y vit un homme qui n'était pas vêtu d'une robe de noces. |
| 12 | And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. | Et il lui dit: mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici, sans avoir une robe de noces? et il eut la bouche fermée. |
| 13 | Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. | Alors le Roi dit aux serviteurs: liez-le pieds et mains, emportez-le, et le jetez dans les ténèbres de dehors; là il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents. |
| 14 | For many are called, but few are chosen. | Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus. |
| 15 | Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. | Alors les Pharisiens s'étant retirés, consultèrent ensemble comment ils le surprendraient en paroles; |
| 16 | And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. | Et ils lui envoyèrent leurs disciples, avec des Hérodiens, en disant: Maître, nous savons que tu es véritable, que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu en vérité, et que tu ne te soucies de personne; car tu ne regardes point à l'apparence des hommes. |
| 17 | Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? | Dis-nous donc ce qu'il te semble de ceci: est-il permis de payer le tribut à César, ou non? |
| 18 | But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? | Et Jésus connaissant leur malice, dit: Hypocrites, pourquoi me tentez-vous? |
| 19 | Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. | Montrez-moi la monnaie de tribut; et ils lui présentèrent un denier. |
| 20 | And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? | Et il leur dit: de qui est cette image, et cette inscription? |
| 21 | They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. | Ils lui répondirent: de César. Alors il leur dit: rendez donc à César les choses qui sont à César, et à Dieu, celles qui sont à Dieu. |
| 22 | When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. | Et ayant entendu cela ils en furent étonnés, et le laissant, ils s'en allèrent. |
| 23 | The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, | Le même jour les Sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, vinrent à lui, et l'interrogèrent, |
| 24 | Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. | En disant: Maître, Moïse a dit: si quelqu'un vient à mourir sans enfants, que son frère prenne sa femme, et il donnera des enfants à son frère. |
| 25 | Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: | Or il y avait parmi nous sept frères, dont l'aîné, après s'être marié, mourut, et n'ayant point eu d'enfants, laissa sa femme à son frère. |
| 26 | Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. | De même le second, puis le troisième, jusques au septième. |
| 27 | And last of all the woman died also. | Et après eux tous, la femme mourut aussi. |
| 28 | Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. | En la résurrection donc duquel des sept sera-t-elle femme? car tous l'ont eue. |
| 29 | Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. | Mais Jésus répondant leur dit: vous errez, ne connaissant point les Ecritures, ni la puissance de Dieu. |
| 30 | For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. | Car en la résurrection on ne prend ni on ne donne point de femmes en mariage, mais on est comme les Anges de Dieu dans le ciel. |
| 31 | But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, | Et quant à la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous point lu ce dont Dieu vous a parlé, disant: |
| 32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. | Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, et le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob; or Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants. |
| 33 | And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. | Ce que les troupes ayant entendu, elles admirèrent sa doctrine. |
| 34 | But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. | Et quand les Pharisiens eurent appris qu'il avait fermé la bouche aux Sadducéens, ils s'assemblèrent dans un même lieu. |
| 35 | Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, | Et l'un d'eux, qui était Docteur de la Loi, l'interrogea pour l'éprouver, en disant: |
| 36 | Master, which is the great commandment in the law? | Maître, lequel est le grand commandement de la Loi? |
| 37 | Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. | Jésus lui dit: tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton coeur, et de toute ton âme, et de toute ta pensée. |
| 38 | This is the first and great commandment. | Celui-ci est le premier et le grand commandement. |
| 39 | And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. | Et le second semblable à celui-là, est: tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même. |
| 40 | On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. | De ces deux commandements dépendent toute la Loi et les Prophètes. |
| 41 | While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, | Et les Pharisiens étant assemblés, Jésus les interrogea, |
| 42 | Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. | Disant: que vous semble-t-il du Christ? De qui est-il Fils? Ils lui répondirent: de David. |
| 43 | He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, | Et il leur dit: comment donc David, parlant par l'Esprit, l'appelle-t-il son Seigneur? disant: |
| 44 | The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? | Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur, assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis pour le marchepied de tes pieds. |
| 45 | If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? | Si donc David l'appelle son Seigneur, comment est-il son Fils? |
| 46 | And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. | Et personne ne lui pouvait répondre un seul mot, ni personne n'osa plus l'interroger depuis ce jour-là. |
