| 3 | Il envoya ses serviteurs appeler ceux qui avaient été invités aux noces, et ils ne voulurent pas venir. | and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come. |
| 4 | Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, disant : "Dites aux invités : Voilà que j'ai préparé mon festin; on a tué mes boeufs et mes animaux gras; tout est prêt : venez aux noces." | Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast. |
| 5 | Mais ils n'en tinrent pas compte, et ils s'en allèrent, l'un à son champ, l'autre à son négoce; | But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; |
| 6 | et les autres se saisirent des serviteurs, les outragèrent et les tuèrent. | and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them. |
| 7 | Le roi entra en colère, envoya ses armées, extermina ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville. | But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. |
| 8 | Alors il dit à ses serviteurs : "La noce est prête, mais les invités n'en étaient pas dignes. | Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy. |
| 9 | Allez donc aux carrefours des chemins, et tous ceux que vous trouverez, invitez-les aux noces." | Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast. |
| 10 | Ces serviteurs sortirent sur les chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, mauvais et bons; et la salle des noces fut remplie de convives. | And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests. |
| 11 | Le roi entra pour voir ceux qui étaient à table et il aperçut là un homme qui n'était point revêtu d'un habit de noce; | But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: |
| 12 | et il lui dit : "Ami, comment es-tu entré ici sans avoir un habit de noce ?"Et lui resta muet. | and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. |
| 13 | Alors le roi dit aux servants : "Liez-lui pieds et mains, et jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieures : là il y aura les pleurs et le grincement de dents. | Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. |
| 14 | Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus. | For many are called, but few chosen. |
| 15 | Alors les Pharisiens s'en allèrent et tinrent conseil sur le moyen de le prendre en défaut dans ses paroles. | Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in [his] talk. |
| 16 | Et ils lui envoient leurs disciples, avec des Hérodiens, lui dire : "Maître, nous savons que vous êtes sincère et que vous enseignez la voie de Dieu et (toute) vérité, sans souci de personne, car vous ne regardez pas au visage des hommes. | And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men. |
| 17 | Dites-nous donc ce qu'il vous semble : Est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César ?" | Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? |
| 18 | Mais Jésus, connaissant leur malice, dit : "Hypocrites, pourquoi me tendez-vous un piège ? | But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites? |
| 19 | Montrez-moi la monnaie du tribut."Et ils lui présentèrent un denier. | Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius. |
| 20 | Et il leur dit : "De qui cette image et l'inscription ? - | And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? |
| 21 | De César, "lui dirent-ils. Alors il leur dit : "Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu." | They say unto him, Caesar`s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar`s; and unto God the things that are God`s. |
| 22 | En entendant, ils furent dans l'admiration et, le quittant, ils s'en allèrent. | And when they heard it, they marvelled, and left him, and went away. |
| 23 | Ce jour-là, des Sadducéens, qui nient la résurrection, vinrent à lui et lui posèrent cette question : | On that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him, |
| 24 | "Maître, Moïse a dit : Si quelqu'un meurt sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera sa femme et suscitera une postérité à son frère. | saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. |
| 25 | Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères. Le premier se maria et mourut, et comme il n'avait pas de postérité, il laissa sa femme à son frère. | Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother; |
| 26 | Pareillement, le second, puis le troisième, jusqu'au septième. | in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. |
| 27 | Après eux tous, la femme mourut. | And after them all, the woman died. |
| 28 | A la résurrection donc, duquel des sept sera-t-elle femme ? car tous l'ont eue." | In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. |
| 29 | Jésus leur répondit : "Vous êtes dans l'erreur, ne comprenant ni les Ecritures, ni la puissance de Dieu. | But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. |
| 30 | Car, à la résurrection, on n'épouse pas et on n'est pas épousé; mais on est comme des anges de Dieu dans le ciel. | For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven. |
| 31 | Quant à la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce que Dieu vous a dit, en ces termes : | But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, |
| 32 | Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob ? Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants." | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not [the God] of the dead, but of the living. |
| 33 | Et les foules, en entendant cela, étaient remplies d'admiration pour son enseignement. | And when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. |
| 34 | Les Pharisiens, ayant appris que Jésus avait réduit au silence les Sadducéens, se rassemblèrent. | But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together. |
| 35 | Et l'un d'eux, docteur de la loi, lui demanda pour l'embarrasser : | And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him: |
| 36 | "Maître, quel est le plus grand commandement de la Loi ?" | Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? |
| 37 | Il lui dit : "Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton coeur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton esprit. | And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. |
| 38 | C'est là le plus grand et le premier commandement. | This is the great and first commandment. |
| 39 | Un second lui est égal : Tu aimeras ton proche comme toi-même. | And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. |
| 40 | En ces deux commandements tient toute la Loi, et les Prophètes." | On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets. |
| 41 | Les Pharisiens étant rassemblés, Jésus leur fit cette question : | Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, |
| 42 | "Que pensez-vous du Christ ? De qui est-il fils ?" Ils lui disent : " De David. - | saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The son] of David. |
| 43 | Comment donc, leur dit-il, David (inspiré) par l'Esprit l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, quand il dit : | He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying, |
| 44 | Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur : Assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis sous tes pieds ? | The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet? |
| 45 | Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils ?" | If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son? |
| 46 | Et nul ne pouvait lui répondre mot, et, depuis ce jour, personne n'osa plus l'interroger. | And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. |
