| 1 | En ce moment-là, les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et dirent : "Qui donc est le plus grand dans le royaume des cieux ?" | In that hour came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? |
| 2 | Alors ayant fait venir un enfant, il le plaça au milieu d'eux | And he called to him a little child, and set him in the midst of them, |
| 3 | et dit : "Je vous le dis, en vérité, si vous ne changez et ne devenez comme les enfants, vous n'entrerez point dans le royaume des cieux. | and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. |
| 4 | Celui donc qui se fera humble comme ce petit enfant est le plus grand dans le royaume des cieux. | Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. |
| 5 | Et celui qui reçoit en mon nom un enfant comme celui-ci, c'est moi qu'il reçoit. | And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me: |
| 6 | Mais celui qui scandalisera un de ces petits qui croient en moi, mieux vaudrait pour lui qu'on lui suspende une meule à âne autour de cou et qu'on le précipite au fond de la mer. | But whoso shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it is profitable for him that a great millstone should be hanged about his neck, and [that] he should be sunk in the depth of the sea. |
| 7 | Malheur au monde à cause des scandales ! C'est une nécessité qu'il arrive des scandales; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le scandale arrive ! | Woe unto the world because of occasions of stumbling! for it must needs be that the occasions come; but woe to that man through whom the occasion cometh! |
| 8 | Si ta main ou ton pied est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-le et jette-le loin de toi : il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie manchot ou boiteux, que d'être jeté, ayant deux mains ou deux pieds, dans le feu éternel. | And if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed or halt, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire. |
| 9 | Et si ton oeil est pour toi une occasion de chute, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi; il vaut mieux pour toi entrer borgne dans la vie, que d'être jeté, ayant deux yeux, dans la géhenne du feu. | And if thine eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire. |
| 10 | Prenez garde de mépriser aucun de ces petits, car je vous dis que leurs anges dans les cieux voient sans cesse la face de mon Père qui est dans les cieux. | See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. |
| 11 | Car le Fils de l'homme est venu sauver ce qui était perdu. | [For the Son of man came to save that which was lost.] |
| 12 | Que vous en semble ? Si un homme a cent brebis, et qu'une d'elles vienne à s'égarer, ne laissera-t-il pas sur les montagnes les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres pour aller à la recherche de celle qui s'est égarée ? | How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray? |
| 13 | Et s'il lui arrive de la retrouver, je vous le dis en vérité, il a plus de joie pour elle que pour les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont pas égarées. | And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray. |
| 14 | De même, n'est-ce pas la volonté de votre Père qui est dans les cieux, qu'il ne se perde pas un seul de ces petits ? | Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. |
| 15 | Si ton frère a péché contre toi, va reprends-le entre toi et lui seul; s'il t'écoute, tu auras gagné ton frère. | And if thy brother sin against thee, go, show him his fault between thee and him alone: if he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. |
| 16 | S'il ne t'écoute pas, prends avec toi encore une ou deux (personnes), afin que toute chose se décide sur la parole de deux ou trois témoins. | But if he hear [thee] not, take with thee one or two more, that at the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may be established. |
| 17 | S'il ne les écoute pas, dis-le à l'Eglise; et s'il n'écoute pas même l'Eglise, qu'il soit pour toi comme le païen et le publicain. | And if he refuse to hear them, tell it unto the church: and if he refuse to hear the church also, let him be unto thee as the Gentile and the publican. |
| 18 | En vérité, je vous le dis, tout ce que vous lierez sur la terre sera lié dans le ciel et tout ce que vous délierez sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel. | Verily I say unto you, what things soever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and what things soever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. |
| 19 | Encore, en vérité, je vous le dis : Si deux d'entre vous sont d'accord pour demander sur terre une chose quelconque, ils l'obtiendront de mon Père qui est dans les cieux. | Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven. |
| 20 | Car où deux ou trois sont assemblés en mon nom, je suis là au milieu d'eux. | For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. |
| 21 | Alors Pierre s'approchant lui dit : "Seigneur, si mon frère pèche contre moi, combien de fois lui pardonnerai-je ? Jusqu'à sept fois ?" | Then came Peter and said to him, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times? |
| 22 | Jésus lui dit : "Je ne te dis pas jusqu'à sept fois, mais jusqu'à septante fois sept fois. | Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven. |
| 23 | C'est pourquoi le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui voulu régler ses comptes avec ses serviteurs. | Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, who would make a reckoning with his servants. |
| 24 | Quand il se mit à régler les comptes, on lui amena un débiteur de dix mille talents. | And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, that owed him ten thousand talents. |
| 25 | Comme il n'avait pas de quoi payer, son maître ordonna qu'on le vendît, lui, sa femme, ses enfants et tout ce qu'il avait pour que paiement fût fait. | But forasmuch as he had not [wherewith] to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. |
| 26 | Alors le serviteur, tombé à ses pieds, demeurait prosterné, disant : "Seigneur, aie patience envers moi, et je te paierai tout." | The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. |
| 27 | Touché de compassion, le maître de ce serviteur le laissa aller et lui remit sa dette. | And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. |
| 28 | Ce serviteur, à peine sorti, rencontra un de ses compagnons de service, qui lui devait cent deniers. L'ayant saisi à la gorge, il l'étouffait, disant : "Paie ce que tu dois." | But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings: and he laid hold on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest. |
| 29 | Son compagnon de service, tombé à ses pieds, le suppliait, disant : "Aie patience envers moi, et je te paierai." | So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee. |
| 30 | Mais lui ne voulait pas, et il s'en alla le faire mettre en prison jusqu'à ce qu'il eût payé sa dette. | And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due. |
| 31 | Ce que voyant, ses compagnons de service furent grandement contristés, et ils vinrent raconter à leur maître ce qui s'était passé. | So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. |
| 32 | Alors le maître le fit appeler et lui dit : "Serviteur méchant, je t'ai remis toute cette dette, parce que tu m'as supplié. | Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: |
| 33 | Ne devais-tu pas, toi aussi, avoir pitié de ton compagnon de service, comme moi-même j'ai eu pitié de toi ?" | shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee? |
| 34 | Et son maître irrité le livra aux bourreaux, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût payé toute sa dette. | And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due. |
| 35 | Ainsi vous traitera mon Père céleste, si chacun de vous ne pardonne à son frère du fond du coeur." | So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts. |
