| 3 | les Pharisiens en effet et tous les Juifs ne mangent pas sans s'être lavé soigneusement les mains, gardant la tradition des anciens, | (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders; |
| 4 | et lorsqu'ils reviennent de la place publique ils ne mangent pas sans avoir pratiqué des ablutions; ils gardent encore beaucoup d'autres observances traditionnelles : ablution des coupes, des cruches et des vases d'airain. | and [when they come] from the market-place, except they bathe themselves, they eat not; and many other things there are, which they have received to hold, washings of cups, and pots, and brasen vessels.) |
| 5 | Les Pharisiens et les scribes lui demandèrent donc : "Pourquoi vos disciples ne marchent-ils pas selon la tradition des anciens, et prennent-ils leur repas avec des mains impures ?" | And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands? |
| 6 | Il leur dit : "Isaïe a bien prophétisé sur vous, hypocrites, ainsi qu'il est écrit : Ce peuple m'honore des lèvres, mais leur coeur est loin de moi. | And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. |
| 7 | Vain est le culte qu'ils me rendent, donnant des enseignements (qui sont) des préceptes d'hommes. | But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men. |
| 8 | Vous laissez de côté le commandement de Dieu pour vous attacher à la tradition des hommes : vous faites des ablutions de cruches et de coupes, et beaucoup d'autres choses semblables." | Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. |
| 9 | Et il leur dit : "Vous avez bel et bien annulé le commandement de Dieu pour observer votre tradition ! | And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition. |
| 10 | Car Moïse a dit : Honore ton père et ta mère; et : Celui qui maudira son père et sa mère, qu'il soit puni de mort | For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death: |
| 11 | Mais vous, vous dites : "Si un homme dit à son père ou à sa mère : Ce dont j'aurais pu t'assister est qorban, "c'est-à-dire offrande, | but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given [to God]; |
| 12 | vous ne le laissez plus rien faire pour son père ou sa mère, | ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother; |
| 13 | anéantissant (ainsi) la parole de Dieu par la tradition que vous transmettez. Et vous faites beaucoup d'autres choses semblables." | making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do. |
| 14 | Ayant rappelé la foule, il leur dit : "Ecoutez-moi tous, et comprenez. | And he called to him the multitude again, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand: |
| 15 | Rien de ce qui est hors de l'homme et qui entre dans l'homme ne peut le souiller; mais ce qui sort de l'homme, voilà ce qui souille l'homme. | there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man. |
| 16 | Si quelqu'un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu'il entende ! " | [If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.] |
| 17 | Lorsqu'il fut entré dans une maison, loin de la foule, ses disciples l'interrogèrent sur la parabole. | And when he was entered into the house from the multitude, his disciples asked of him the parable. |
| 18 | Il leur dit : "Ainsi, vous aussi, vous êtes sans intelligence ? Ne comprenez-vous pas que tout ce qui du dehors entre dans l'homme ne peut le souiller, | And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, [it] cannot defile him; |
| 19 | parce que cela n'entre pas dans son coeur, mais (va) dans le ventre, et sort pour le lieu secret."(Ainsi) il déclarait purs tous les aliments. | because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? [This he said], making all meats clean. |
| 20 | Et il disait : "Ce qui sort de l'homme, voilà ce qui souille l'homme. | And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man. |
| 21 | Car c'est du dedans, du coeur des hommes, que sortent les pensées mauvaises : fornication, vols, meurtres, | For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, |
| 22 | adultères, avarice, méchancetés, fraude, libertinage, envie, blasphème, orgueil, déraison. | covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness: |
| 23 | Toutes ces choses mauvaises sortent du dedans et souillent l'homme." | all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man. |
| 24 | Il partit de là et s'en alla au territoire de Tyr et de Sidon. Et étant entré dans une maison, il désirait que personne ne le sût, mais il ne put demeurer caché. | And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hid. |
| 25 | Car une femme, dont la fillette avait un esprit impur, n'eut pas plus tôt entendu parler de lui, qu'elle vint se jeter à ses pieds. | But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet. |
| 26 | La femme était païenne, syro-phénicienne de race; elle le pria de chasser le démon hors de sa fille. | Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter. |
| 27 | Il lui dit : "Laissez d'abord les enfants se rassasier, car il n'est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants pour le jeter aux petits chiens." | And he said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children`s bread and cast it to the dogs. |
| 28 | Elle lui répondit : "Oui, Seigneur; mais les petits chiens, sous la table, mangent des miettes des enfants." | But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children`s crumbs. |
| 29 | Il lui dit : "A cause de cette parole, allez, le démon est sorti de votre fille." | And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter. |
| 30 | S'en étant retournée à sa maison, elle trouva l'enfant couchée sur le lit et le démon sorti. | And she went away unto her house, and found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out. |
| 31 | Sortant du territoire de Tyr, il revint par Sidon vers la mer de Galilée, au centre du territoire de la Décapole. | And again he went out from the borders of Tyre, and came through Sidon unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis. |
| 32 | On lui amena un sourd-bègue, et on le pria de lui imposer les mains. | And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to lay his hand upon him. |
| 33 | Le tirant à part hors de la foule, il lui mit les doigts dans les oreilles, et de sa salive il toucha sa langue; | And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue; |
| 34 | puis, levant les yeux au ciel, il poussa un soupir et lui dit : "Ephphatha, "c'est-à-dire : "Ouvre-toi." | and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. |
| 35 | Et ses oreilles s'ouvrirent, et aussitôt le noeud de sa langue se délia, et il parlait distinctement. | And his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. |
| 36 | Il leur défendit d'en rien dire à personne; mais plus il le leur défendait, plus ils le publiaient. | And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it. |
| 37 | Et ravis d'une admiration sans bornes, ils disaient : "Il a fait tout très bien : il a fait entendre les sourds et parler les muets." | And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak. |
