| 2 | And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. | Il s'y rassembla tant de gens qu'il n'y avait plus de place, même aux abords de la porte; et il leur donnait l'enseignement. |
| 3 | And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. | Et on vient amenant vers lui un paralytique, porté à quatre. |
| 4 | And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. | Et, comme ils ne pouvaient l'amener jusqu'à lui à cause de la foule, ils découvrirent le toit à l'endroit où il était, et, ayant fait une ouverture, ils descendirent le grabat où le paralytique était étendu. |
| 5 | When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. | Jésus, voyant leur foi, dit au paralytique : "Mon fils, tes péchés sont remis." |
| 6 | But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, | Or il y avait assis là quelques scribes, qui pensaient en eux-mêmes : |
| 7 | Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? | "Comment celui-ci parle-t-il ainsi ? Il blasphème. Qui peut remettre les péchés sinon Dieu seul ?" |
| 8 | And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? | Jésus, ayant aussitôt connu par son esprit qu'ils pensaient ainsi en eux-mêmes, leur dit : "Pourquoi avez-vous ces pensées en vous-mêmes ? |
| 9 | Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? | Lequel est le plus facile, de dire au paralytique : "Tes péchés sont remis, "ou de dire : "Lève-toi, prends ton grabat et marche ?" |
| 10 | But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) | Mais, pour que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a, sur la terre, le pouvoir de remettre les péchés, - il dit au paralytique : |
| 11 | I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. | Je te le dis : lève-toi, prends ton grabat et va dans ta maison." |
| 12 | And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion. | Et il se dressa et, ayant aussitôt pris son grabat, il sortit devant tout le monde, si bien que tous étaient stupéfaits et rendaient gloire à Dieu, disant : Jamais nous n'avons rien vu de semblable ! |
| 13 | And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. | Il sortit une autre fois le long de la mer; et toute la foule venait à lui, et il les enseignait. |
| 14 | And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him. | En passant, il vit Lévi, fils d'Alphée, assis au bureau du fisc, et il lui dit : Suis-moi. Lévi se leva et le suivit. |
| 15 | And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. | Il arriva que Jésus étant à table dans la maison de cet homme, beaucoup de publicains et de pécheurs étaient à table avec lui et ses disciples, car ils étaient nombreux à l'avoir suivi. |
| 16 | And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? | Les scribes (du parti) des Pharisiens, le voyant manger avec les pécheurs et les publicains, disaient à ses disciples : "Pourquoi mange-t-il et boit-il avec les publicains et les pécheurs ?" |
| 17 | When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. | Entendant cela, Jésus leur dit : "Ce ne sont pas les bien portants qui ont besoin de médecin, mais les malades. Je ne suis pas venu appeler les justes, mais les pécheurs." |
| 18 | And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? | Les disciples de Jean et les Pharisiens observaient le jeûne. Ils vinrent lui dire : "Pourquoi, tandis que les disciples de Jean et les disciples des Pharisiens observent le jeûne, vos disciples ne l'observent-ils pas ?" |
| 19 | And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. | Jésus leur dit : "Les amis de l'époux peuvent-ils observer le jeûne pendant que l'époux est avec eux ? Aussi longtemps qu'ils ont avec eux l'époux, ils ne peuvent observer le jeûne. |
| 20 | But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. | Mais des jours viendront où l'époux leur sera enlevé, et alors ils observeront le jeûne en ce jour-là. |
| 21 | No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. | Personne ne coud une pièce d'étoffe écrue à un vieux vêtement : autrement le morceau rapporté en emporte quelque chose, le neuf du vieux, et la déchirure devient pire. |
| 22 | And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles. | Personne, non plus, ne met du vin nouveau dans des outres vieilles : autrement le vin fait éclater les outres, et le vin est perdu ainsi que les outres. Mais vin nouveau dans outres neuves ! " |
| 23 | And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. | Il arriva, un jour de sabbat, qu'il traversait des moissons, et ses disciples, chemin faisant, se mirent à arracher les épis. |
| 24 | And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? | Les Pharisiens lui dirent : "Voyez ! Pourquoi font-ils, le jour du sabbat, ce qui n'est pas permis ?" |
| 25 | And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? | Et il leur dit : "N'avez-vous jamais lu ce que fit David lorsqu'il fut dans le besoin et eut faim, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui : |
| 26 | How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? | comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu, au temps du grand prêtre Abiathar, et mangea les pains de proposition, qu'il n'est permis de manger qu'aux prêtres seuls, et en donna aussi à ceux qui étaient avec lui ?" |
| 27 | And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: | Et il leur disait : "Le sabbat a été fait pour l'homme, et non l'homme pour le sabbat; |
| 28 | Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. | si bien que le Fils de l'homme est maître même du sabbat." |
