| 1 | After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. | Or la fête de Pâque et des pains sans levain était deux jours après; et les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Scribes cherchaient comment ils pourraient se saisir de Jésus par finesse, et le faire mourir. |
| 2 | But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people. | Mais ils disaient: non point durant la Fête, de peur qu'il ne se fasse du tumulte parmi le peuple. |
| 3 | And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. | Et comme il était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, et qu'il était à table, il vint là une femme qui avait un vase d'albâtre, rempli d'un parfum de nard pur et de grand prix; et elle rompit le vase, et répandit le parfum sur la tête de Jésus. |
| 4 | And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? | Et quelques-uns en furent indignés en eux-mêmes, et ils disaient: à quoi sert la perte de ce parfum? |
| 5 | For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. | Car il pouvait être vendu plus de trois cents deniers, et être donné aux pauvres. Ainsi ils murmuraient contre elle. |
| 6 | And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. | Mais Jésus dit: laissez-la; pourquoi lui donnez-vous du déplaisir? Elle a fait une bonne action envers moi. |
| 7 | For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. | Parce que vous aurez toujours des pauvres avec vous, et vous leur pourrez faire du bien toutes les fois que vous voudrez; mais vous ne m'aurez pas toujours. |
| 8 | She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. | Elle a fait ce qui était en son pouvoir, elle a anticipé d'oindre mon corps pour l'appareil de ma sépulture. |
| 9 | Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. | En vérité je vous dis, qu'en quelque lieu du monde que cet Evangile sera prêché, ceci aussi qu'elle a fait sera récité en mémoire d'elle. |
| 10 | And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. | Alors Judas Iscariot, l'un des douze, s'en alla vers les principaux Sacrificateurs pour le leur livrer. |
| 11 | And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. | Qui, l'ayant ouï, s'en réjouirent, et lui promirent de lui donner de l'argent, et il cherchait comment il le livrerait commodément. |
| 12 | And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover? | Or le premier jour des pains sans levain, auquel on sacrifiait l'agneau de Pâque, ses Disciples lui dirent: où veux-tu que nous t'allions apprêter à manger l'agneau de Pâque? |
| 13 | And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. | Et il envoya deux de ses Disciples, et leur dit: allez en la ville, et un homme vous viendra à la rencontre, portant une cruche d'eau, suivez-le. |
| 14 | And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? | Et en quelque lieu qu'il entre, dites au maître de la maison: le Maître dit: où est le logis où je mangerai l'agneau de Pâque avec mes Disciples? |
| 15 | And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. | Et il vous montrera une grande chambre, ornée et préparée; apprêtez-nous là l'agneau de Pâque. |
| 16 | And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. | Ses Disciples donc s'en allèrent; et étant arrivés dans la ville, ils trouvèrent tout comme il leur avait dit, et ils apprêtèrent l'agneau de Pâque. |
| 17 | And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. | Et sur le soir Jésus vint lui-même avec les douze. |
| 18 | And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. | Et comme ils étaient à table, et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus leur dit: en vérité je vous dis, que l'un de vous, qui mange avec moi, me trahira. |
| 19 | And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? | Et ils commencèrent à s'attrister; et ils lui dirent l'un après l'autre: est-ce moi? et l'autre: est-ce moi? |
| 20 | And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. | Mais il répondit, et leur dit: c'est l'un des douze qui trempe avec moi au plat. |
| 21 | The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born. | Certes le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon qu'il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi; il eût été bon à cet homme-là de n'être point né. |
| 22 | And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. | Et comme ils mangeaient, Jésus prit le pain, et après avoir béni Dieu, il le rompit, et le leur donna, et leur dit: Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps. |
| 23 | And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. | Puis ayant pris la coupe, il rendit grâces, et la leur donna; et ils en burent tous. |
| 24 | And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. | Et il leur dit: ceci est mon sang, le sang du Nouveau Testament, qui est répandu pour plusieurs. |
| 25 | Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. | En vérité je vous dis, que je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne jusqu'au jour que je le boirai nouveau dans le Royaume de Dieu. |
| 26 | And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. | Et quand ils eurent chanté le cantique, ils s'en allèrent à la montagne des oliviers. |
| 27 | And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. | Et Jésus leur dit: vous serez tous cette nuit scandalisés en moi; car il est écrit: je frapperai le Berger, et les brebis seront dispersées. |
| 28 | But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. | Mais après que je serai ressuscité, j'irai devant vous en Galilée. |
| 29 | But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. | Et Pierre lui dit: quand même tous seraient scandalisés, je ne le serai pourtant point. |
| 30 | And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. | Et Jésus lui dit: en vérité, je te dis, qu'aujourd'hui, en cette propre nuit, avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. |
| 31 | But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. | Mais Pierre disait encore plus fortement: quand même il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai point; et ils lui dirent tous la même chose. |
| 32 | And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. | Puis ils vinrent en un lieu nommé Gethsémané; et il dit à ses Disciples: asseyez-vous ici jusqu'à ce que j’aie prié. |
| 33 | And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; | Et il prit avec lui Pierre, et Jacques, et Jean, et il commença à être effrayé et fort agité. |
| 34 | And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. | Et il leur dit: mon âme est saisie de tristesse jusques à la mort, demeurez ici, et veillez. |
| 35 | And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. | Puis s'en allant un peu plus outre, il se jeta en terre, et il priait que s'il était possible, l'heure passât arrière de lui. |
| 36 | And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. | Et il disait: Abba, Père, toutes choses te sont possibles, transporte cette coupe arrière de moi, toutefois, non point ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux. |
| 37 | And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? | Puis il revint, et les trouva dormants; et il dit à Pierre: Simon, dors-tu? n'as-tu pu veiller une heure? |
| 38 | Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. | Veillez, et priez que vous n'entriez point en tentation, car quant à l'esprit, il est prompt, mais la chair est faible. |
| 39 | And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. | Et il s'en alla encore, et il pria, disant les mêmes paroles. |
| 40 | And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. | Puis étant retourné, il les trouva encore dormants, car leurs yeux étaient appesantis; et ils ne savaient que lui répondre. |
| 41 | And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. | Il vint encore, pour la troisième fois, et leur dit: dormez dorénavant, et vous reposez; il suffit, l'heure est venue; voici, le Fils de l'homme s'en va être livré entre les mains des méchants. |
| 42 | Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. | Levez-vous, allons; voici, celui qui me trahit s'approche. |
| 43 | And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. | Et aussitôt, comme il parlait encore, Judas, l'un des douze, vint, et avec lui une grande troupe ayant des épées et des bâtons, de la part des principaux Sacrificateurs, et des Scribes et des Anciens. |
| 44 | And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. | Or celui qui le trahissait avait donné un signal entre eux, disant: celui que je baiserai, c’est lui; saisissez-le, et emmenez-le sûrement. |
| 45 | And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him. | Quand donc il fut venu, il s'approcha aussitôt de lui, et lui dit: Maître, Maître, et il le baisa. |
| 46 | And they laid their hands on him, and took him. | Alors ils mirent les mains sur Jésus, et le saisirent. |
| 47 | And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. | Et quelqu'un de ceux qui étaient là présents, tira son épée, et en frappa le serviteur du souverain Sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille. |
| 48 | And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? | Alors Jésus prit la parole, et leur dit: êtes-vous sortis comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons, pour me prendre? |
| 49 | I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. | J’étais tous les jours parmi vous enseignant dans le Temple, et vous ne m'avez point saisi; mais tout ceci est arrivé afin que les Ecritures soient accomplies. |
| 50 | And they all forsook him, and fled. | Alors tous ses Disciples l'abandonnèrent, et s'enfuirent. |
| 51 | And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: | Et un certain jeune homme le suivait, enveloppé d'un linceul sur le corps nu; et quelques jeunes gens le saisirent. |
| 52 | And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. | Mais abandonnant son linceul, il s'enfuit d'eux tout nu. |
| 53 | And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. | Et ils menèrent Jésus au souverain Sacrificateur, chez qui s'assemblèrent tous les principaux Sacrificateurs, les Anciens et les Scribes. |
| 54 | And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. | Et Pierre le suivait de loin jusque dans la cour du souverain Sacrificateur; et il était assis avec les serviteurs, et se chauffait près du feu. |
| 55 | And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. | Or les principaux Sacrificateurs et tout le Consistoire cherchaient quelque témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir, mais ils n'en trouvaient point. |
| 56 | For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. | Car plusieurs disaient de faux témoignages contre lui, mais les témoignages n'étaient point suffisants. |
| 57 | And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, | Alors quelques-uns s'élevèrent, et portèrent de faux témoignages contre lui, disant: |
| 58 | We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. | Nous avons ouï qu'il disait: Je détruirai ce Temple qui est fait de main et en trois jours j'en rebâtirai un autre qui ne sera point fait de main. |
| 59 | But neither so did their witness agree together. | Mais encore avec tout cela leurs témoignages n'étaient point suffisants. |
| 60 | And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? | Alors le souverain Sacrificateur se levant au milieu, interrogea Jésus, disant: ne réponds-tu rien? qu'est-ce que ceux-ci témoignent contre toi? |
| 61 | But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? | Mais il se tut, et ne répondit rien. Le souverain Sacrificateur l'interrogea encore, et lui dit: es-tu le Christ, le Fils du Dieu béni? |
| 62 | And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. | Et Jésus lui dit: Je le suis; et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel. |
| 63 | Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses? | Alors le souverain Sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, et dit: qu'avons-nous encore affaire de témoins? |
| 64 | Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. | Vous avez ouï le blasphème: que vous en semble? Alors tous le condamnèrent comme étant digne de mort. |
| 65 | And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. | Et quelques-uns se mirent à cracher contre lui, et à lui couvrir le visage, et à lui donner des souffets; et ils lui disaient: prophétise; et les sergents lui donnaient des coups avec leurs verges. |
| 66 | And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: | Or comme Pierre était en bas dans la cour, une des servantes du souverain Sacrificateur vint. |
| 67 | And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. | Et quand elle eut aperçu Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le regarda en face, et lui dit: et toi, tu étais avec Jésus le Nazarien. |
| 68 | But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. | Mais il le nia, disant: je ne le connais point, et je ne sais ce que tu dis; puis il sortit dehors au vestibule, et le coq chanta. |
| 69 | And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. | Et la servante l'ayant regardé encore, elle se mit à dire à ceux qui étaient là présents: celui-ci est de ces gens-là. |
| 70 | And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. | Mais il le nia une seconde fois. Et encore un peu après, ceux qui étaient là présents, dirent à Pierre: certainement tu es de ces gens-là, car tu es Galiléen, et ton langage s'y rapporte. |
| 71 | But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. | Alors il se mit à se maudire, et à jurer, disant: je ne connais point cet homme-là dont vous parlez. |
| 72 | And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. | Et le coq chanta pour la seconde fois; et Pierre se ressouvint de cette parole que Jésus lui avait dite: avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. Et étant sorti il pleura. |
