| 9 | Hérode dit : "Jean, je l'ai fait décapiter. Quel est donc celui dont j'entends dire de telles choses ?"Et il cherchait à le voir. | And Herod said, John I beheaded: but who is this, about whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him. |
| 10 | Les apôtres, à leur retour, lui racontèrent tout ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui et se retira à l'écart dans la direction d'une ville nommée Bethsaïde. | And the apostles, when they were returned, declared unto him what things they had done. And he took them, and withdrew apart to a city called Bethsaida. |

Les ayant accueillies, il leur parlait du royaume de Dieu, et il rendit la santé à ceux qui en avaient besoin. | But the multitudes perceiving it followed him: and he welcomed them, and spake to them of the kingdom of God, and them that had need of healing he cured. |
| 12 | Le jour commençait à baisser, et les Douze s'approchèrent et lui dirent : Renvoyez la foule, afin qu'ils s'en aillent loger dans les bourgs et les hameaux des environs et y trouvent de la nourriture; car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert. | And the day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and country round about, and lodge, and get provisions: for we are here in a desert place. |
| 13 | Il leur dit : "Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger."Ils lui dirent : "Nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins peut-être que nous ne nous en allions nous-mêmes acheter des vivres pour tout ce peuple ! " | But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy food for all this people. |
| 14 | Il y avait en effet environ cinq mille hommes. Il dit à ses disciples : Faites-les s'étendre par groupe d'environ cinquante. | For they were about five thousand men. And he said unto his disciples, Make them sit down in companies, about fifty each. |
| 15 | Et ils firent ainsi et les firent tous s'étendre. | And they did so, and made them all sit down. |
| 16 | Il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, prononça la bénédiction, les rompit et les donna aux disciples pour les servir à la foule. | And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake; and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. |
| 17 | Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et l'on emporta, de ce qui leur était resté, douze corbeilles de morceaux. | And they ate, and were all filled: and there was taken up that which remained over to them of broken pieces, twelve baskets. |
| 18 | Un jour qu'il priait seul, ayant ses disciples avec lui, il leur fit cette question : "Qui suis-je, au dire des foules ?" | And it came to pass, as he was praying apart, the disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Who do the multitudes say that I am? |
| 19 | Ils répondirent : "Jean le Baptiste; d'autres, Elie; d'autres, qu'un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité." | And they answering said, John the Baptist; but others [say], Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again. |
| 20 | Il leur dit : "Et vous, qui dites-vous que je suis ?"Pierre, prenant la parole, dit : "Le Christ de Dieu." | And he said unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Peter answering said, The Christ of God. |
| 21 | Et il leur défendit sévèrement de dire cela à personne : | But he charged them, and commanded [them] to tell this to no man; |
| 22 | "Il faut, ajouta-t-il, que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, par les grands prêtres et par les scribes, qu'il soit mis à mort et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour." | saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. |
| 23 | Et, s'adressant à tous, il dit : "Si quelqu'un veut venir à ma suite, qu'il se renonce lui-même, qu'il prenne sa croix chaque jour et me suive. | And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. |
| 24 | Car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra; et celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi, la sauvera. | For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. |
| 25 | Quel profit en effet a l'homme qui a gagné le monde entier, mais qui s'est ruiné lui-même ou perdu ? | For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self? |
| 26 | Celui qui aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, lorsqu'il viendra dans sa gloire et celle du Père et des saints anges. | For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own glory, and [the glory] of the Father, and of the holy angels. |
| 27 | Je vous le dis en vérité, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents ne goûteront point la mort qu'ils n'aient vu le royaume de Dieu." | But I tell you of a truth, There are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. |
| 28 | Il se passa environ huit jours après (qu'il eut dit) ces paroles, et, prenant avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, il monta sur la montagne pour prier. | And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up into the mountain to pray. |
| 29 | Pendant qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage devint autre, et son vêtement d'un blanc éblouissant. | And as he was praying, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment [became] white [and] dazzling. |
| 30 | Et voilà que deux hommes conversaient avec lui : c'étaient Moïse et Elie, | And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah; |
| 31 | qui, apparaissant en gloire, parlaient de sa mort qu'il devait accomplir à Jérusalem. | who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. |
| 32 | Pierre et ses compagnons étaient accablés de sommeil; mais, s'étant réveillés, ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient avec lui. | Now Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. |
| 33 | Or, comme ils se séparaient de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus : "Maître, il nous est bon d'être ici; faisons trois tentes : une pour vous, une pour Moïse et une pour Elie, "ne sachant pas ce qu'il disait. | And it came to pass, as they were parting from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: not knowing what he said. |
| 34 | Comme il disait cela, il se fit une nuée qui les couvrit de son ombre; et ils furent saisis de frayeur tandis qu'ils entraient dans la nuée. | And while he said these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. |
| 35 | Et de la nuée se fit entendre une voix qui disait : "Celui-ci est mon Fils élu : écoutez-le." | And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him. |
| 36 | Pendant que la voix parlait, Jésus se trouva seul Et ils gardèrent le silence, et ils ne racontèrent rien à personne, en ce temps-là, de ce qu'ils avaient vu. | And when the voice came, Jesus was found alone. And they held their peace, and told no man in those days any of the things which they had seen. |
| 37 | Le jour suivant, lorsqu'ils furent descendus de la montagne, une foule nombreuse se porta à sa rencontre. | And it came to pass, on the next day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. |
| 38 | Et voilà que de la foule un homme s'écria : "Maître, je vous en prie, jetez un regard sur mon fils, car c'est mon unique. | And behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, Teacher, I beseech thee to look upon my son; for he is mine only child: |
| 39 | Un esprit s'empare-t-il de lui qu'aussitôt il pousse des cris, et il l'abat en le faisant écumer, à grand'peine le quitte-t-il après l'avoir tout meurtri. | and behold, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth, and it hardly departeth from him, bruising him sorely. |
| 40 | J'ai prié vos disciples de le chasser, et ils ne l'ont pu." | And I besought thy disciples to cast it out; and they could not. |
| 41 | Jésus répondit : "O génération incrédule et perverse, jusques à quand serai-je près de vous et vous supporterai-je ? Conduis ici ton fils." | And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? bring hither thy son. |
| 42 | Et comme il approchait, le démon le jeta par terre et l'abattit. Mais Jésus commanda avec force à l'esprit impur et guérit l'enfant, et il le rendit à son père. | And as he was yet a coming, the demon dashed him down, and tare [him] grievously. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. |
| 43 | Et tous étaient stupéfaits devant la grandeur de Dieu. Comme tous étaient dans l'admiration pour tout ce qu'il faisait, il dit à ses disciples : | And they were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marvelling at all the things which he did, he said unto his disciples, |
| 44 | "Vous, mettez bien ces mots dans vos oreilles, car le Fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes." | Let these words sink into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men. |
| 45 | Mais ils ne comprenaient point cette parole, et elle leur était voilée pour qu'ils n'en eussent pas l'intelligence, et ils craignaient de l'interroger sur cette parole. | But they understood not this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. |
| 46 | Or, une préoccupation entra dans leur esprit, savoir lequel d'entre eux pouvait bien être le plus grand. | And there arose a reasoning among them, which of them was the greatest. |
| 47 | Jésus, voyant la préoccupation de leur coeur, prit un enfant, le plaça près de lui | But when Jesus saw the reasoning of their heart, he took a little child, and set him by his side, |
| 48 | et leur dit : "Celui qui reçoit en mon nom cet enfant, me reçoit; et celui qui me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé; car celui qui se trouve être le plus petit parmi vous tous, celui-là est grand." | and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same is great. |
| 49 | Jean, prenant la parole, dit : "Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un qui chassait les démons en votre nom, et nous voulions l'en empêcher, parce qu'il ne (vous) suit pas avec nous." | And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. |
| 50 | Jésus lui dit : "N'empêchez pas, car celui qui n'est pas contre vous est pour vous." | But Jesus said unto him, Forbid [him] not: for he that is not against you is for you. |
| 51 | Or, comme allaient arriver les jours où il devait être enlevé (de ce monde), il prit résolument la direction de Jérusalem, | And it came to pass, when the days were well-nigh come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, |
| 52 | et il envoya devant lui des messagers, qui se mirent en route et entrèrent dans un bourg des Samaritains pour lui préparer (le gîte); | and sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. |
| 53 | mais ils refusèrent de le recevoir, parce qu'il se dirigeait vers Jérusalem. | And they did not receive him, because his face was [as though he were] going to Jerusalem. |
| 54 | Ce que voyant, les disciples Jacques et Jean dirent : "Seigneur, voulez-vous que nous commandions que le feu descende du ciel et les consume ?" | And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them? |
| 55 | Mais, s'étant retourné, il les réprimanda. | But he turned, and rebuked them. |
| 56 | Et ils firent route vers un autre bourg. | And they went to another village. |
| 57 | Pendant qu'ils faisaient route, en chemin, quelqu'un lui dit : "Je vous suivrai où que vous alliez." | And as they went on the way, a certain man said unto him, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. |
| 58 | Jésus lui dit : "Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel des abris, mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer la tête." | And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. |
| 59 | Il dit à un autre : "Suis-moi."Celui-ci dit : "Seigneur, permettez-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père." | And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. |
| 60 | Mais il lui dit : "Laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts; pour toi, va annoncer le royaume de Dieu." | But he said unto him, Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but go thou and publish abroad the kingdom of God. |
| 61 | Un autre encore lui dit : "Je vous suivrai, Seigneur; mais d'abord permettez-moi de faire mes adieux à ceux de ma maison." | And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord; but first suffer me to bid farewell to them that are at my house. |
| 62 | Jésus lui dit : "Celui qui, ayant mis la main à la charrue, regarde en arrière, n'est pas propre au royaume de Dieu." | But Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. |
