| 1 | Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. | Mais le premier jour de la semaine, comme il était encore fort matin, elles vinrent au sépulcre, et quelques autres avec elles, apportant les aromates, qu'elles avaient préparés. |
| 2 | And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. | Et elles trouvèrent la pierre roulée à côté du sépulcre. |
| 3 | And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. | Et étant entrées, elles ne trouvèrent point le corps du Seigneur Jésus. |
| 4 | And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: | Et il arriva que comme elles étaient en grande perplexité touchant cela, voici, deux personnages parurent devant elles en vêtements tout couverts de lumière. |
| 5 | And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? | Et comme elles étaient toutes épouvantées, et baissaient le visage en terre, ils leur dirent: pourquoi cherchez-vous parmi les morts celui qui est vivant? |
| 6 | He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, | Il n'est point ici, mais il est ressuscité; qu'il vous souvienne comment il vous parla quand il était encore en Galilée, |
| 7 | Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. | Disant: qu'il fallait que le Fils de l'homme fût livré entre les mains des pécheurs, et qu'il fût crucifié; et qu'il ressuscitât le troisième jour. |
| 8 | And they remembered his words, | Et elles se souvinrent de ses paroles. |
| 9 | And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. | Puis s'en étant retournées du sépulcre, elles annoncèrent toutes ces choses aux onze Disciples, et à tous les autres. |
| 10 | It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. | Or ce fut Marie-Magdeleine, et Jeanne, et Marie mère de Jacques, et les autres qui étaient avec elles, qui dirent ces choses aux Apôtres. |
| 11 | And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. | Mais les paroles de ces femmes leur semblèrent comme des rêveries, et ils ne les crurent point. |
| 12 | Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. | Néanmoins Pierre s'étant levé, courut au sépulcre, et s'étant courbé pour regarder, il ne vit que les linceuls mis à côté; puis il partit, admirant en lui-même ce qui était arrivé. |
| 13 | And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. | Or voici, deux d'entre eux étaient ce jour-là en chemin, pour aller à une bourgade nommée Emmaüs, qui était loin de Jérusalem, environ soixante stades. |
| 14 | And they talked together of all these things which had happened. | Et ils s'entretenaient ensemble de toutes ces choses qui étaient arrivées. |
| 15 | And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. | Et il arriva que comme ils parlaient et conféraient entre eux, Jésus lui-même s'étant approché, se mit à marcher avec eux. |
| 16 | But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. | Mais leurs yeux étaient retenus de sorte qu'ils ne le reconnaissaient pas. |
| 17 | And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? | Et il leur dit: quels sont ces discours que vous tenez entre vous en marchant? et pourquoi êtes-vous tout tristes? |
| 18 | And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? | Et l'un d'eux, qui avait nom Cléopas, répondit, et lui dit: es-tu seul étranger dans Jérusalem, qui ne saches point les choses qui y sont arrivées ces jours-ci? |
| 19 | And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: | Et il leur dit: quelles? ils répondirent: c'est touchant Jésus le Nazarien, qui était un Prophète, puissant en oeuvres et en paroles devant Dieu, et devant tout le peuple. |
| 20 | And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. | Et comment les principaux Sacrificateurs et nos Gouverneurs l'ont livré pour être condamné à mort, et l'ont crucifié. |
| 21 | But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. | Or nous espérions que ce serait lui qui délivrerait Israël; mais avec tout cela, c'est aujourd'hui le troisième jour que ces choses sont arrivées. |
| 22 | Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; | Toutefois quelques femmes d'entre nous nous ont fort étonnés,car elles ont été de grand matin au sépulcre; |
| 23 | And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. | Et n'ayant point trouvé son corps, elles sont revenues, en disant que même elles avaient vu une apparition d'Anges, qui disaient qu'il est vivant. |
| 24 | And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. | Et quelques-uns des nôtres sont allés au sépulcre, et ont trouvé ainsi que les femmes avaient dit; mais pour lui, ils ne l'ont point vu. |
| 25 | Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: | Alors il leur dit: ô gens dépourvus de sens, et tardifs de coeur à croire toutes les choses que les Prophètes ont prononcées! |
| 26 | Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? | Ne fallait-il pas que le Christ souffrît ces choses, et qu'il entrât en sa gloire? |
| 27 | And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. | Puis commençant par Moïse, et continuant par tous les Prophètes, il leur expliquait dans toutes les Ecritures les choses qui le regardaient. |
| 28 | And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. | Et comme ils furent près de la bourgade où ils allaient, il faisait semblant d'aller plus loin. |
| 29 | But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. | Mais ils le forcèrent, en lui disant: demeure avec nous, car le soir approche, et le jour commence à baisser. Il entra donc pour demeurer avec eux. |
| 30 | And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. | Et il arriva que comme il était à table avec eux, il prit le pain, et il le bénit; et l'ayant rompu, il le leur distribua. |
| 31 | And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. | Alors leurs yeux furent ouverts, en sorte qu'ils le reconnurent; mais il disparut de devant eux. |
| 32 | And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? | Et ils dirent entre eux: notre coeur ne brûlait-il pas au-dedans de nous, lorsqu'il nous parlait par le chemin, et qu'il nous expliquait les Ecritures? |
| 33 | And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, | Et se levant dans ce moment, ils s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem, où ils trouvèrent les onze assemblés, et ceux qui étaient avec eux; |
| 34 | Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. | Qui disaient: le Seigneur est véritablement ressuscité, et il est apparu à Simon. |
| 35 | And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. | Et ceux-ci aussi racontèrent les choses qui leur étaient arrivées en chemin, et comment il avait été reconnu d'eux en rompant le pain. |
| 36 | And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. | Et comme ils tenaient ces discours, Jésus se présenta lui-même au milieu d'eux, et leur dit: que la paix soit avec vous! |
| 37 | But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. | Mais eux tout troublés et épouvantés croyaient voir un esprit. |
| 38 | And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? | Et il leur dit: pourquoi vous troublez-vous, et pourquoi monte-t-il des pensées dans vos coeurs? |
| 39 | Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. | Voyez mes mains et mes pieds; car c'est moi-même: touchez-moi, et me considérez bien; car un esprit n'a ni chair ni os, comme vous voyez que j'ai. |
| 40 | And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. | Et en disant cela, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds. |
| 41 | And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? | Mais comme encore de joie ils ne croyaient point, et qu'ils s'étonnaient, il leur dit: avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger? |
| 42 | And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. | Et ils lui présentèrent une pièce de poisson rôti, et d'un rayon de miel; |
| 43 | And he took it, and did eat before them. | Et l'ayant pris, il mangea devant eux. |
| 44 | And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. | Puis il leur dit: ce sont ici les discours que je vous tenais quand j'étais encore avec vous: qu'il fallait que toutes les choses qui sont écrites de moi dans la Loi de Moïse, et dans les Prophètes, et dans les Psaumes, fussent accomplies. |
| 45 | Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, | Alors il leur ouvrit l'esprit pour entendre les Ecritures. |
| 46 | And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: | Et il leur dit: il est ainsi écrit, et ainsi il fallait que le Christ souffrît, et qu'il ressuscitât des morts le troisième jour; |
| 47 | And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. | Et qu'on prêchât en son Nom la repentance et la rémission des péchés parmi toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem. |
| 48 | And ye are witnesses of these things. | Et vous êtes témoins de ces choses; et voici, je m'en vais envoyer sur vous la promesse de mon Père. |
| 49 | And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. | Vous donc demeurez dans la ville de Jérusalem, jusqu'à ce que vous soyez revêtus de la vertu d'en haut. |
| 50 | And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. | Après quoi il les mena dehors jusqu'en Béthanie, et levant ses mains en haut, il les bénit. |
| 51 | And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. | Et il arriva qu'en les bénissant, il se sépara d'eux, et fut élevé au ciel. |
| 52 | And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: | Et eux l'ayant adoré, s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem avec une grande joie. |
| 53 | And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. | Et ils étaient toujours dans le Temple, louant et bénissant Dieu. Amen! |
