| 4 | Le baptême de Jean, était-il du ciel ou des hommes ?" | The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? |
| 5 | Mais ils se firent en eux-mêmes cette réflexion : "Si nous disons : "Du ciel, "il dira : "Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cru en lui ?" | And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him? |
| 6 | Et si nous disons : "Des hommes, "le peuple entier nous lapidera, car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète." | But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. |
| 7 | Ils répondirent donc qu'ils ne savaient d'où (il était). | And they answered, that they knew not whence [it was]. |
| 8 | Et Jésus leur dit : "Moi non plus, je ne vous dis pas par quel pouvoir je fais cela." | And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. |
| 9 | Et il se mit à dire au peuple cette parabole : "Un homme planta une vigne et l'afferma à des vignerons; puis il partit en voyage pour un long temps. | And he began to speak unto the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time. |
| 10 | Au temps (voulu), il envoya un serviteur aux vignerons pour qu'ils lui donnassent (sa part) du fruit de la vigne. Mais les vignerons, l'ayant battu, le renvoyèrent les mains vides. | And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. |
| 11 | Il dépêcha encore un autre serviteur; mais, l'ayant aussi battu, ils le chargèrent d'outrages et le renvoyèrent les mains vides. | And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty. |
| 12 | Il en dépêcha encore un troisième; mais, lui aussi, ils le blessèrent et le jetèrent dehors. | And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth. |
| 13 | Le maître de la vigne dit : "Que ferai-je ? Je dépêcherai (vers eux) mon fils bien-aimé; peut-être auront-ils égard à lui." | And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him. |
| 14 | Mais, quand les vignerons le virent, ils se firent les uns aux autres cette réflexion : "Voici l'héritier; tuons-le pour que l'héritage devienne nôtre." | But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. |
| 15 | Et l'ayant jeté hors de la vigne, ils le tuèrent. Que leur fera donc le maître de la vigne ? | And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them? |
| 16 | Il viendra et fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d'autres."Ce qu'ayant entendu, ils dirent : "A Dieu ne plaise ! " | He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. |
| 17 | Mais, fixant le regard sur eux, il dit : "Qu'est-ce donc que cette Ecriture : La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient est devenue tête d'angle ? | But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner? |
| 18 | Quiconque tombe sur cette pierre sera brisé; et celui sur qui elle tombera, elle l'écrasera." | Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. |
| 19 | Les scribes et les grands prêtres cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui à l'heure même, mais ils craignirent le peuple; ils avaient compris, en effet, qu'il avait dit cette parabole à leur adresse. | And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them. |
| 20 | Ils l'épièrent et lui envoyèrent des gens apostés qui feignirent d'être justes, pour le prendre en faute en parole, afin de pouvoir le livrer à l'autorité et au pouvoir du gouverneur. | And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. |
| 21 | Et ils l'interrogèrent, disant : "Maître, nous savons que vous parlez et enseignez avec droiture, et que vous ne faites acception de personne, mais que vous enseignez la voie de Dieu en (toute) vérité. | And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person [of any], but of a truth teachest the way of God: |
| 22 | Nous est-il permis, ou non, de payer l'impôt à César ?" | Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? |
| 23 | Ayant compris leur fourberie, il leur dit : "Pourquoi me tentez-vous ? | But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, |
| 24 | Montrez-moi un denier. De qui porte-t-il image et inscription ?"Ils dirent : "De César." | Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar`s. |
| 25 | Et il leur dit : "Ainsi donc, rendez à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu." | And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar`s, and unto God the things that are God`s. |
| 26 | Et ils ne purent le prendre en faute pour un mot devant le peuple; et, pris d'admiration pour sa réponse, ils gardèrent le silence. | And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace. |
| 27 | Quelques-uns des Sadducéens, qui soutiennent qu'il n'y a pas de résurrection, s'approchèrent et lui posèrent cette question : | And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection; |
| 28 | "Maître, Moïse nous a prescrit : Si le frère de quelqu'un meurt ayant femme, et qu'il soit sans enfant, que son frère prenne la femme et suscite une postérité à son frère. | and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man`s brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. |
| 29 | Il y avait donc sept frères; le premier prit femme et mourut sans enfant. | There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless; |

| 31 | puis le troisième, la prirent; pareillement les sept ne laissèrent pas d'enfant et moururent. | and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died. |
| 32 | Après, la femme aussi mourut. | Afterward the woman also died. |
| 33 | Cette femme donc, à la résurrection, duquel d'entre eux devient-elle femme, car les sept l'ont eue pour femme ?" | In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife. |
| 34 | Jésus leur dit : "Les enfants de ce siècle épousent et sont épousés; | And Jesus said unto them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage: |
| 35 | mais ceux qui ont été jugés dignes de parvenir au siècle à venir et à la résurrection des morts n'épousent pas et ne sont pas épousés; | but they that are accounted worthy to attain to that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: |
| 36 | aussi bien ne peuvent-ils plus mourir : ils sont en effet semblables aux anges, et ils sont enfants de Dieu, étant enfants de la résurrection. | for neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. |
| 37 | Mais que les morts ressuscitent, Moïse aussi l'a indiqué, au passage du Buisson, lorsqu'il dit : Le Seigneur, Dieu d'Abraham, Dieu d'Isaac et Dieu de Jacob. | But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in [the place concerning] the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. |
| 38 | Or il n'est pas Dieu de morts, mais de vivants, car pour lui, tous sont vivants." | Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. |
| 39 | Quelques-uns des scribes, prenant la parole, dirent : "Maître, vous avez bien parlé." | And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said. |
| 40 | Et ils n'osaient plus lui poser aucune question. | For they durst not any more ask him any question. |
| 41 | Il leur dit : "Comment peut-on dire que le Christ est fils de David ? | And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David`s son? |
| 42 | Car David lui-même dit dans le livre des Psaumes : Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur : Assieds-toi à ma droite, | For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, |
| 43 | jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis (comme) escabeau de tes pieds. | Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. |
| 44 | David l'appelle donc "Seigneur;"comment alors est-il son fils ?" | David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son? |
| 45 | Tandis que tout le peuple l'écoutait, il dit à ses disciples : | And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples, |
| 46 | "Défiez-vous des scribes, qui aiment à se promener en robes longues, qui recherchent les premiers sièges dans les synagogues et les premières places dans les repas, | Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts; |
| 47 | qui dévorent les maisons des veuves et affectent de prier longuement : ces gens-là subiront une condamnation plus forte." | who devour widows` houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation. |
