| 5 | Pour être enregistré avec Marie, la femme qui lui avait été fiancée, laquelle était enceinte. | to enrol himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child. |
| 6 | Et il arriva comme ils étaient là, que son terme pour accoucher fut accompli. | And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered. |
| 7 | Et elle mit au monde son fils premier-né, et l'emmaillota, et le coucha dans une crèche, à cause qu'il n'y avait point de place pour eux dans l'hôtellerie. | And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. |
| 8 | Or il y avait en ces quartiers-là des bergers couchant aux champs, et gardant leur troupeau durant les veilles de la nuit. | And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. |
| 9 | Et voici, l'Ange du Seigneur survint vers eux, et la clarté du Seigneur resplendit autour d'eux, et ils furent saisis d'une fort grande peur. | And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. |
| 10 | Mais l'Ange leur dit: n'ayez point de peur; car voici, je vous annonce un grand sujet de joie qui sera tel pour tout le peuple: | And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: |
| 11 | C'est qu'aujourd'hui dans la cité de David vous est né le Sauveur, qui est le Christ, le Seigneur. | for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. |
| 12 | Et c'est ici la marque à laquelle vous le reconnaîtrez, c'est que vous trouverez le petit enfant emmailloté, et couché dans une crèche. | And this [is] the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger. |
| 13 | Et aussitôt avec l'Ange il y eut une multitude de l'armée céleste, louant Dieu, et disant: | And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, |
| 14 | Gloire soit à Dieu dans les lieux très-hauts, que la paix soit sur la terre et la bonne volonté dans les hommes! | Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased. |
| 15 | Et il arriva qu'après que les Anges s'en furent allés d'avec eux au ciel, les bergers dirent entre eux: allons donc jusqu'à Bethléhem, et voyons cette chose qui est arrivée, et que le Seigneur nous a découverte. | And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. |
| 16 | Ils allèrent donc à grand hâte, et ils trouvèrent Marie et Joseph, et le petit enfant couché dans une crèche. | And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger. |
| 17 | Et quand ils l'eurent vu, ils divulguèrent ce qui leur avait été dit touchant ce petit enfant. | And when they saw it, they made known concerning the saying which was spoken to them about this child. |
| 18 | Et tous ceux qui les ouïrent s'étonnèrent des choses qui leur étaient dites par les bergers. | And all that heard it wondered at the things which were spoken unto them by the shepherds. |
| 19 | Et Marie gardait soigneusement toutes ces choses, et les repassait dans son esprit. | But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart. |
| 20 | Puis les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de toutes ces choses qu'ils avaient ouïes et vues, selon qu'il leur en avait été parlé. | And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken unto them. |
| 21 | Et quand les huit jours furent accomplis pour circoncire l'enfant, alors son nom fut appelé JESUS, lequel avait été nommé par l'Ange, avant qu'il fût conçu dans le ventre. | And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called JESUS, which was so called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. |
| 22 | Et quand les jours de la purification de Marie furent accomplis selon la Loi de Moïse, ils le portèrent à Jérusalem, pour le présenter au Seigneur, | And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord |
| 23 | (Selon ce qui est écrit dans la Loi du Seigneur: que tout mâle premier-né sera appelé saint au Seigneur.) | (as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord), |
| 24 | Et pour offrir l'oblation prescrite dans la Loi du Seigneur, savoir une paire de tourterelles, ou deux pigeonneaux. | and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. |
| 25 | Or voici, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme qui avait nom Siméon, et cet homme était juste et craignant Dieu, et il attendait la consolation d'Israël; et le Saint-Esprit était en lui. | And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him. |
| 26 | Et il avait été averti divinement par le Saint-Esprit, qu'il ne mourrait point, que premièrement il n'eût vu le Christ du Seigneur. | And it had been revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord`s Christ. |
| 27 | Lui donc étant poussé par l'Esprit vint au Temple; et comme le père et la mère portaient dans le Temple le petit enfant Jésus, pour faire de lui selon l'usage de la Loi, | And he came in the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do concerning him after the custom of the law, |
| 28 | Il le prit entre ses bras, et bénit Dieu, et dit: | then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, |
| 29 | Seigneur, tu laisses maintenant aller ton serviteur en paix selon ta parole. | Now lettest thou thy servant depart, Lord, According to thy word, in peace; |
| 30 | Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut; | For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, |
| 31 | Lequel tu as préparé devant la face de tous les peuples. | Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples; |
| 32 | La lumière pour éclairer les nations; et pour être la gloire de ton peuple d'Israël. | A light for revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel. |
| 33 | Et Joseph et sa mère s'étonnaient des choses qui étaient dites de lui. | And his father and his mother were marvelling at the things which were spoken concerning him; |
| 34 | Et Siméon le bénit, et dit à Marie sa mère: voici, celui-ci est mis pour être une occasion de chute et de relèvement de plusieurs en Israël, et pour être un signe auquel on contredira. | and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against; |
| 35 | (Et même aussi une épée percera ta propre âme) afin que les pensées de plusieurs coeurs soient découvertes. | yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed. |
| 36 | Il y avait aussi Anne la Prophétesse, fille de Phanuel de la Tribu d'Aser, qui était déjà avancée en âge, et qui avait vécu avec son mari sept ans depuis sa virginité; | And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, |
| 37 | Et veuve d'environ quatre-vingt-quatre ans, elle ne bougeait point du Temple, servant Dieu en jeûnes et en prières, nuit et jour. | and she had been a widow even unto fourscore and four years), who departed not from the temple, worshipping with fastings and supplications night and day. |
| 38 | Elle étant donc survenue en ce même moment, louait aussi le Seigneur, et parlait de lui à tous ceux qui attendaient la délivrance à Jérusalem. | And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks unto God, and spake of him to all them that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. |
| 39 | Et quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est ordonné par la Loi du Seigneur, ils s'en retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth leur ville. | And when they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. |
| 40 | Et le petit enfant croissait et se fortifiait en esprit, étant rempli de sagesse; et la grâce de Dieu était sur lui. | And the child grew, and waxed strong, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. |
| 41 | Or son père et sa mère allaient tous les ans à Jérusalem à la fête de Pâque. | And his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover. |
| 42 | Et quand il eut atteint l'âge de douze ans, son père et sa mère étant montés à Jérusalem selon la coutume de la fête, | And when he was twelve years old, they went up after the custom of the feast; |
| 43 | Et s'en retournant après avoir accompli les jours de la Fête, l'enfant Jésus demeura dans Jérusalem; et Joseph et sa mère ne s'en aperçurent point. | and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not; |
| 44 | Mais croyant qu'il était dans la troupe des voyageurs, ils marchèrent une journée; puis ils le cherchèrent entre leurs parents et ceux de leur connaissance. | but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day`s journey; and they sought for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance: |
| 45 | Et ne le trouvant point, ils s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem, en le cherchant. | and when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking for him. |
| 46 | Or il arriva que trois jours après ils le trouvèrent dans le Temple, assis au milieu des Docteurs, les écoutant, et les interrogeant. | And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions: |
| 47 | Et tous ceux qui l'entendaient s'étonnaient de sa sagesse et de ses réponses. | and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. |
| 48 | Et quand ils le virent, ils en furent étonnés, et sa mère lui dit: mon enfant, pourquoi nous as-tu fait ainsi; voici, ton père et moi te cherchions étant en grande peine. | And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I sought thee sorrowing. |
| 49 | Et il leur dit: pourquoi me cherchiez vous? ne saviez-vous pas qu'il me faut être occupé aux affaires de mon Père? | And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be in my Father`s house? |
| 50 | Mais ils ne comprirent point ce qu'il leur disait. | And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. |
| 51 | Alors il descendit avec eux, et vint à Nazareth; et il leur était soumis; et sa mère conservait toutes ces paroles-là dans son coeur. | And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and he was subject unto them: and his mother kept all [these] sayings in her heart. |
| 52 | Et Jésus s'avançait en sagesse, et en stature, et en grâce, envers Dieu et envers les hommes. | And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. |
