| 1 | Et Jésus étant entré dans Jéricho, allait par la ville. | And he entered and was passing through Jericho. |
| 2 | Et voici un homme appelé Zachée, qui était principal péager, et qui était riche, | And behold, a man called by name Zacchaeus; and he was a chief publican, and he was rich. |
| 3 | Tâchait de voir lequel était Jésus, mais il ne pouvait à cause de la foule, car il était petit. | And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the crowd, because he was little of stature. |
| 4 | C'est pourquoi il accourut devant, et monta sur un sycomore pour le voir; car il devait passer par là. | And he ran on before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. |
| 5 | Et quand Jésus fut venu à cet endroit-là, regardant en haut, il le vit, et lui dit: Zachée, descends promptement; car il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison. | And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house. |
| 6 | Et il descendit promptement, et le reçut avec joie. | And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. |
| 7 | Et tous voyant cela murmuraient, disant qu'il était entré chez un homme de mauvaise vie pour y loger. | And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner. |
| 8 | Et Zachée se présentant là, dit au Seigneur: Voici, Seigneur, je donne la moitié de mes biens aux pauvres; et si j'ai fait tort à quelqu'un en quelque chose, j'en rends le quadruple. | And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold. |
| 9 | Et Jésus lui dit: aujourd'hui le salut est entré dans cette maison; parce que celui-ci aussi est fils d'Abraham. | And Jesus said unto him, To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham. |
| 10 | Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu. | For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost. |
| 11 | Et comme ils entendaient ces choses, Jésus poursuivit son discours, et proposa une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'ils pensaient qu'à l'instant le Règne de Dieu devait être manifesté. | And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and [because] they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear. |
| 12 | Il dit donc: un homme noble s'en alla dans un pays éloigné, pour se mettre en possession d'un Royaume, mais dans la vue de revenir. | He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. |
| 13 | Et ayant appelé dix de ses serviteurs, il leur donna dix marcs d'argent et leur dit: Faites-les valoir jusqu'à ce que je vienne. | And he called ten servants of his, and gave them ten pounds, and said unto them, Trade ye [herewith] till I come. |
| 14 | Or ses citoyens le haïssaient: c'est pourquoi ils envoyèrent après lui une députation, pour dire: nous ne voulons pas que celui-ci règne sur nous. | But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us. |
| 15 | Il arriva donc après qu'il fut retourné, et qu'il se fut mis en possession du Royaume, qu'il commanda qu'on lui appelât ces serviteurs à qui il avait confié son argent, afin qu'il sût combien chacun aurait gagné par son trafic. | And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading. |
| 16 | Alors le premier vint, disant: Seigneur, ton marc a produit dix autres marcs. | And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more. |
| 17 | Et il lui dit: cela va bien, bon serviteur; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, aie puissance sur dix villes. | And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. |
| 18 | Et un autre vint, disant: Seigneur, ton marc en a produit cinq autres. | And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds. |
| 19 | Et il dit aussi à celui-ci: et toi, sois établi sur cinq villes. | And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities. |
| 20 | Et un autre vint, disant: Seigneur, voici ton marc que j'ai tenu enveloppé dans un linge; | And another came, saying, Lord, behold, [here is] thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin: |
| 21 | Car je t'ai craint, parce que tu es un homme sévère; tu prends ce que tu n'as point mis, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as point semé. | for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow. |
| 22 | Et il lui dit: méchant serviteur, je te jugerai par ta propre parole: tu savais que je suis un homme sévère, prenant ce que je n'ai point mis, et moissonnant ce que je n'ai point semé; | He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow; |
| 23 | Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas mis mon argent à la banque, et à mon retour je l'eusse retiré avec l'intérêt? | then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest? |
| 24 | Alors il dit à ceux qui étaient présents: Ôtez-lui le marc, et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix. | And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds. |
| 25 | Et ils lui dirent: Seigneur, il a dix marcs. | And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds. |
| 26 | Ainsi je vous dis, qu'à chacun qui aura, il sera donné; et à celui qui n'a rien, cela même qu'il a, lui sera ôté. | I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him. |
| 27 | Au reste, amenez ici ces ennemis qui n'ont pas voulu que je régnasse sur eux, et tuez-les devant moi. | But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. |
| 28 | Et ayant dit ces choses, il allait devant eux, montant à Jérusalem. | And when he had thus spoken, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem. |
| 29 | Et il arriva comme il approchait de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers la montagne appelée des oliviers, qu'il envoya deux de ses Disciples, | And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, |
| 30 | En leur disant: allez à la bourgade qui est vis-à-vis de vous, et y étant entrés, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel jamais homme n'est monté; détachez-le, et amenez-le-moi. | saying, Go your way into the village over against [you]; in which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him. |
| 31 | Que si quelqu'un vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous lui direz ainsi: c'est parce que le Seigneur en a besoin. | And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him. |
| 32 | Et ceux qui étaient envoyés s'en allèrent, et trouvèrent l'ânon comme il le leur avait dit. | And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them. |
| 33 | Et comme ils détachaient l'ânon, les maîtres leur dirent: pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon? | And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? |
| 34 | Ils répondirent: le Seigneur en a besoin. | And they said, The Lord hath need of him. |
| 35 | Ils l'emmenèrent donc à Jésus, et ils jetèrent leurs vêtements sur l'ânon; puis ils mirent Jésus dessus. | And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon. |
| 36 | En même temps qu'il marchait, ils étendaient leurs vêtements par le chemin. | And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. |
| 37 | Et lorsqu'il fut proche de la descente de la montagne des oliviers, toute la multitude des Disciples se réjouissant, se mit à louer Dieu à haute voix, pour tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus; | And as he was now drawing nigh, [even] at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen; |
| 38 | Disant: béni soit le Roi qui vient au Nom du Seigneur; que la paix soit dans le ciel, et la gloire dans les lieux très-hauts. | saying, Blessed [is] the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. |
| 39 | Et quelques-uns d'entre les Pharisiens de la troupe lui dirent: Maître, reprends tes Disciples. | And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples. |
| 40 | Et Jésus répondant, leur dit: je vous dis que si ceux-ci se taisent, les pierres mêmes crieront. | And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out. |
| 41 | Et quand il fut proche, voyant la ville, il pleura sur elle, en disant: | And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it, |
| 42 | Ô! si toi aussi eusses connu, au moins en cette tienne journée, les choses qui appartiennent à ta paix! mais maintenant elles sont cachées devant tes yeux. | saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. |
| 43 | Car les jours viendront sur toi que tes ennemis t'environneront de tranchées, ils t'enfermeront, et t'enserreront de tous côtés; | For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, |
| 44 | Et te raseront, toi et tes enfants qui sont au-dedans de toi, et ils ne laisseront en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as point connu le temps de ta visitation. | and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. |
| 45 | Puis étant entré au Temple, il commença à chasser dehors ceux qui y vendaient et qui y achetaient. | And he entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold, |
| 46 | Leur disant: il est écrit: ma Maison est la Maison de prière; mais vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs. | saying unto them, It is written, And my house shall be a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers. |
| 47 | Et il était tous les jours enseignant dans le Temple, et les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Scribes, tâchaient de le faire mourir. | And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him: |
| 48 | Mais ils ne trouvaient rien qu'ils lui pussent faire; car tout le peuple était fort attentif à l'écouter. | and they could not find what they might do; for the people all hung upon him, listening. |
