| 1 | And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. | Il disait aussi à ses Disciples: Il y avait un homme riche qui avait un économe, lequel fut accusé devant lui comme dissipateur de ses biens. |
| 2 | And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. | Et si en ce qui est à autrui vous n'avez pas été fidèles, qui vous donnera ce qui est vôtre? |
| 3 | Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. | Alors l'économe dit en lui-même: que ferai-je, puisque mon maître m'ôte l'administration? je ne puis pas fouir la terre, et j'ai honte de mendier. |
| 4 | I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. | Je sais ce que je ferai, afin que quand mon administration me sera ôtée, quelques-uns me reçoivent dans leurs maisons. |
| 5 | So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? | Alors il appela chacun des débiteurs de son maître, et il dit au premier: combien dois-tu à mon maître? |
| 6 | And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. | Il dit: cent mesures d'huile. Et il lui dit: prends ton obligation, et t'assieds sur-le-champ, et n'en écris que cinquante. |
| 7 | Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. | Puis il dit à un autre: et toi combien dois-tu? et il dit: cent mesures de froment. Et il lui dit: prends ton obligation, et n'en écris que quatre-vingts. |
| 8 | And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. | Et le maître loua l'économe infidèle de ce qu'il avait agi prudemment. Ainsi les enfants de ce siècle sont plus prudents en leur génération, que les enfants de lumière. |
| 9 | And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. | Et moi aussi je vous dis: faites-vous des amis des richesses iniques; afin que quand vous viendrez à manquer, ils vous reçoivent dans les Tabernacles éternels. |
| 10 | He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. | Celui qui est fidèle en très peu de chose, est fidèle aussi dans les grandes choses; et celui qui est injuste en très peu de chose, est injuste aussi dans les grandes choses. |
| 11 | If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? | Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans les richesses iniques, qui vous confiera les vraies richesses? |
| 12 | And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? | |
| 13 | No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. | Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres; car ou il haïra l'un, et aimera l'autre; ou il s'attachera à l'un, et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et les richesses. |
| 14 | And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. | Or les Pharisiens aussi, qui étaient avares, entendaient toutes ces choses, et ils se moquaient de lui. |
| 15 | And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. | Et il leur dit: vous vous justifiez vous-mêmes devant les hommes; mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs; c'est pourquoi ce qui est grand devant les hommes, est en abomination devant Dieu. |
| 16 | The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. | La Loi et les Prophètes ont duré jusqu'à Jean; depuis ce temps-là le Règne de Dieu est évangélisé, et chacun le force. |
| 17 | And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. | Or il est plus aisé que le ciel et la terre passent, que non pas qu'il tombe un seul point de la Loi. |
| 18 | Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery. | Quiconque répudie sa femme, et se marie à une autre, commet un adultère, et quiconque prend celle qui a été répudiée par son mari, commet un adultère. |
| 19 | There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: | Or il y avait un homme riche, qui se vêtait de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui tous les jours se traitait splendidement. |
| 20 | And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, | Il y avait aussi un pauvre, nommé Lazare, couché à la porte du riche, et tout couvert d'ulcères; |
| 21 | And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. | Et qui désirait d'être rassasié des miettes qui tombaient de la table du riche; et même les chiens venaient, et lui léchaient ses ulcères. |
| 22 | And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; | Et il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et il fut porté par les Anges au sein d'Abraham; le riche mourut aussi, et fut enseveli. |
| 23 | And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. | Et étant en enfer, et élevant ses yeux, comme il était dans les tourments, il vit de loin Abraham et Lazare dans son sein. |
| 24 | And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. | Et s'écriant, il dit: Père Abraham aie pitié de moi, et envoie Lazare, qui mouillant dans l'eau le bout de son doigt, vienne rafraîchir ma langue; car je suis grièvement tourmenté dans cette flamme. |
| 25 | But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. | Et Abraham répondit: mon fils, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens en ta vie, et que Lazare y a eu ses maux; mais il est maintenant consolé, et tu es grièvement tourmenté. |
| 26 | And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. | Et outre tout cela, il y a un grand abîme entre nous et vous; tellement que ceux qui veulent passer d'ici vers vous, ne le peuvent; ni de là, passer ici. |
| 27 | Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: | Et il dit: je te prie donc, père, de l'envoyer en la maison de mon père; |
| 28 | For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. | Car j'ai cinq frères, afin qu'il leur rende témoignage de l'état où je suis; de peur qu'eux aussi ne viennent dans ce lieu de tourment. |
| 29 | Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. | Abraham lui répondit: Ils ont Moïse et les Prophètes; qu'ils les écoutent. |
| 30 | And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. | Mais il dit: Non, père Abraham, mais si quelqu'un des morts va vers eux, ils se repentiront. |
| 31 | And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. | Et Abraham lui dit: s'ils n'écoutent point Moïse et les Prophètes, ils ne seront pas non plus persuadés, quand quelqu'un des morts ressusciterait. |
