| 1 | Il disait aussi à ses disciples : "Il était un homme riche qui avait un intendant; celui-ci lui fut dénoncé comme dissipant ses biens. | And he said also unto the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods. |
| 2 | Il l'appela et lui dit : "Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi ? Rends compte de ton intendance, car tu ne pourras plus être intendant." | And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? render the account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward. |
| 3 | Or l'intendant se dit en lui-même : "Que ferai-je, puisque mon maître me retire l'intendance ? Bêcher, je n'en ai pas la force; mendier, j'en ai honte. | And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord taketh away the stewardship from me? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed. |
| 4 | Je sais ce que je ferai pour que, quand je serai destitué de l'intendance, (il y ait des gens) qui me reçoivent chez eux." | I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. |
| 5 | Ayant convoqué chacun des débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier : Combien dois-tu à mon maître ? | And calling to him each one of his lord`s debtors, he said to the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? |
| 6 | Il dit : "Cent mesures d'huile."Et il lui dit : "Prends ton billet, assieds-toi vite et écris : cinquante." | And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty. |
| 7 | Ensuite il dit à un autre : "Et toi, combien dois-tu ?"Il dit : "Cent mesures de froment."Et il lui dit : "Prends ton billet et écris : quatre-vingts." | Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He saith unto him, Take thy bond, and write fourscore. |
| 8 | Et le maître loua l'intendant malhonnête d'avoir agi d'une façon avisée. C'est que les enfants de ce siècle sont plus avisés à l'égard de ceux de leur espèce que les enfants de la lumière. | And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light. |
| 9 | Et moi je vous dis : Faites-vous des amis avec la Richesse malhonnête, afin que, lorsqu'elle viendra à manquer, ils vous reçoivent dans les pavillons éternels. | And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles. |
| 10 | Qui est fidèle dans les petites choses est fidèle aussi dans les grandes, et qui est malhonnête dans les petites choses est malhonnête aussi dans les grandes. | He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. |
| 11 | Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles pour la Richesse malhonnête, qui vous confiera le (bien) véritable ? | If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]? |
| 12 | Et si vous n'avez pas été fidèles pour le (bien) d'autrui, qui vous donnera le vôtre ? | And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another`s, who will give you that which is your own? |
| 13 | Nul domestique ne peut servir deux maîtres : car ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et la Richesse." | No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. |
| 14 | Les Pharisiens, qui étaient amis de l'argent, écoutaient tout cela, et ils se moquaient de lui. | And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him. |
| 15 | Et il leur dit : "Vous, vous êtes ceux qui se font justes aux yeux des hommes; mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs; car ce qui est élevé parmi les hommes est abomination aux yeux de Dieu. | And he said unto them, Ye are they that justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. |
| 16 | Jusqu'à Jean, (c'était) la Loi et les prophètes; depuis lors, le royaume de Dieu est annoncé et chacun le force pour y entrer. | The law and the prophets [were] until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and every man entereth violently into it. |
| 17 | Mais il est plus facile que le ciel et la terre passent, que ne tombe un seul trait de la Loi. | But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall. |
| 18 | Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet l'adultère; et celui qui épouse la femme répudiée par son mari, commet l'adultère. | Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth one that is put away from a husband committeth adultery. |
| 19 | Il y avait un homme riche qui s'habillait de pourpre et de lin et qui, chaque jour, festoyait splendidement. | Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day: |
| 20 | Un pauvre, nommé Lazare, était couché à sa porte, couvert d'ulcères | and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, |
| 21 | et désireux de se rassasier de ce qui tombait de la table du riche; et même, les chiens venaient lécher ses ulcères. | and desiring to be fed with the [crumbs] that fell from the rich man`s table; yea, even the dogs come and licked his sores. |
| 22 | Or il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et il fut emporté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Le riche aussi mourut, et on lui donna la sépulture. | And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham`s bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried. |
| 23 | Dans l'enfer, il leva les yeux, en proie aux tourments, et il aperçut de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein. | And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. |
| 24 | Et il s'écria : "Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi, et envoie Lazare pour qu'il trempe dans l'eau le bout de son doigt et me rafraîchisse la langue, car je souffre dans cette flamme." | And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. |
| 25 | Abraham dit : "Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et pareillement Lazare ses maux. Maintenant il est consolé ici, et toi tu souffres. | But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted and thou art in anguish. |
| 26 | Et avec tout cela, entre nous et vous a été établi un grand abîme, de sorte que ceux qui voudraient passer d'ici vers vous ne le pourraient pas, et que [ceux] de là-bas ne traversent pas non plus vers nous." | And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us. |
| 27 | Et il dit : "Je te prie donc, père, de l'envoyer à la maison de mon père, | And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father`s house; |
| 28 | - car j'ai cinq frères, - pour leur attester (ces choses) de peur qu'ils ne viennent, eux aussi, dans ce lieu de tourment." | for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. |
| 29 | Abraham dit : "Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes : qu'ils les écoutent ! " | But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. |
| 30 | Il dit : "Non, père Abraham; mais si quelqu'un de chez les morts va vers eux, ils se repentiront." | And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent. |
| 31 | Il lui dit : "S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, même si quelqu'un ressuscitait d'entre les morts, ils ne seraient pas persuadés." | And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead. |
