| 1 | Or tous les péagers et les gens de mauvaise vie s'approchaient de lui pour l'entendre. | Now all the publicans and sinners were drawing near unto him to hear him. |
| 2 | Mais les Pharisiens et les Scribes murmuraient, disant: celui-ci reçoit les gens de mauvaise vie, et mange avec eux. | And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. |
| 3 | Mais il leur proposa cette parabole, disant: | And he spake unto them this parable, saying, |
| 4 | Qui est l'homme d'entre vous qui ayant cent brebis, s'il en perd une, ne laisse les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf au désert, et ne s'en aille après celle qui est perdue, jusqu'à ce qu'il l'ait trouvée; | What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? |
| 5 | Et qui l'ayant trouvée ne la mette sur ses épaules bien joyeux; | And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. |
| 6 | Et étant de retour en sa maison, n'appelle ses amis et ses voisins, et ne leur dise: réjouissez-vous avec moi; car j'ai trouvé ma brebis qui était perdue? | And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. |
| 7 | Je vous dis, qu'il y aura de même de la joie au ciel pour un seul pécheur qui vient à se repentir, plus que pour quatre-vingt-dix-neuf justes, qui n'ont pas besoin de repentance. | I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance. |
| 8 | Ou qui est la femme qui ayant dix drachmes, si elle perd une drachme, n'allume la chandelle, et ne balaye la maison, et ne la cherche diligemment, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'ait trouvée; | Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? |
| 9 | Et qui après l'avoir trouvé, n'appelle ses amis et ses voisines, en leur disant: réjouissez-vous avec moi; car j'ai trouvé la drachme que j'avais perdue? | And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. |
| 10 | Ainsi je vous dis qu'il y a de la joie devant les Anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui vient à se repentir. | Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. |
| 11 | Il leur dit aussi: un homme avait deux fils; | And he said, A certain man had two sons: |
| 12 | Et le plus jeune dit à son père: mon père, donne-moi la part du bien qui m'appartient; et il leur partagea ses biens. | and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. |
| 13 | Et peu de jours après, quand le plus jeune fils eut tout ramassé, il s'en alla dehors en un pays éloigné; et là il dissipa son bien en vivant dans la débauche. | And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living. |
| 14 | Et après qu'il eut tout dépensé, une grande famine survint en ce pays-là; et il commença d'être dans la disette. | And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. |
| 15 | Alors il s'en alla, et se mit au service d'un des habitants du pays, qui l'envoya dans ses possessions pour paître les pourceaux. | And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. |
| 16 | Et il désirait de se rassasier des gousses que les pourceaux mangeaient; mais personne ne lui en donnait. | And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. |
| 17 | Or étant revenu à lui-même, il dit: combien y a-t-il de mercenaires dans la maison de mon père, qui ont du pain en abondance, et moi je meurs de faim? | But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father`s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! |
| 18 | Je me lèverai, et je m'en irai vers mon père, et je lui dirai: mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et devant toi; | I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: |
| 19 | Et je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils; traite-moi comme l'un de tes mercenaires. | I am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of thy hired servants. |
| 20 | Il se leva donc, et vint vers son père; et comme il était encore loin, son père le vit, et fut touché de compassion, et courant à lui, se jeta à son cou, et le baisa. | And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. |
| 21 | Mais le fils lui dit: mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et devant toi; et je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils. | And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son. |
| 22 | Et le père dit à ses serviteurs: apportez la plus belle robe, et l'en revêtez, mettez-lui un anneau au doigt, et des souliers aux pieds; | But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: |
| 23 | Et amenez-moi le veau gras, et le tuez, et faisons bonne chère en le mangeant. | and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry: |
| 24 | Car mon fils que voici, était mort, mais il est ressuscité; il était perdu, mais il est retrouvé. Et ils commencèrent à faire bonne chère. | for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. |
| 25 | Or son fils aîné était aux champs, et comme il revenait et qu'il approchait de la maison, il entendit la mélodie et les danses. | Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. |
| 26 | Et ayant appelé un des serviteurs, il lui demanda ce que c'était. | And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be. |
| 27 | Et ce serviteur lui dit: ton frère est venu, et ton père a tué le veau gras, parce qu'il l'a recouvré sain et sauf. | And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. |
| 28 | Mais il se mit en colère, et ne voulut point entrer; et son père étant sorti le priait d'entrer. | But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him. |
| 29 | Mais il répondit, et dit à son père: voici, il y a tant d'années que je te sers, et jamais je n'ai transgressé ton commandement, et cependant tu ne m'as jamais donné un chevreau pour faire bonne chère avec mes amis. | But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: |
| 30 | Mais quand celui-ci, ton fils, qui a mangé ton bien avec des femmes de mauvaise vie, est venu, tu lui as tué le veau gras. | but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf. |
| 31 | Et le père lui dit: mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi, et tous mes biens sont à toi. | And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. |
| 32 | Or il fallait faire bonne chère, et se réjouir, parce que celui-ci, ton frère, était mort, et il est ressuscité; il était perdu, et il est retrouvé. | But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found. |
