| 2 | Et les Pharisiens et les scribes murmuraient, disant : "Cet homme accueille des pécheurs et mange avec eux." | And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. |
| 3 | Et il dit à leur adresse cette parabole : | And he spake unto them this parable, saying, |
| 4 | "Qui d'entre vous, ayant cent brebis, s'il en perd une, ne laisse pas les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres dans le désert, pour aller après celle qui est perdue, jusqu'à ce qu'il l'ait retrouvée ? | What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? |
| 5 | Et quand il l'a retrouvée, il la met sur ses épaules tout joyeux et, | And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. |
| 6 | de retour à la maison, il convoque les amis et les voisins et leur dit : Réjouissez-vous avec moi, car j'ai retrouvé ma brebis qui était perdue. | And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. |
| 7 | Ainsi, je vous le dis, il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un seul pécheur qui se repent, que pour quatre-vingt-dix-neuf justes qui n'ont pas besoin de repentance. | I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance. |
| 8 | Ou bien, quelle est la femme ayant dix drachmes qui, si elle perd une drachme, n'allume une lampe, ne balaie la maison, et ne cherche avec soin jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'ait retrouvée ? | Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? |
| 9 | et quand elle l'a retrouvée, elle convoque les amies et les voisines et leur dit : "Réjouissez-vous avec moi, car j'ai retrouvé la drachme que j'avais perdue." | And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. |
| 10 | Ainsi, je vous le dis, il y a de la joie chez les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui se repent." | Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. |
| 11 | Il dit encore : "Un homme avait deux fils. | And he said, A certain man had two sons: |
| 12 | Le plus jeune dit à son père : "Mon père, donne-moi la part de biens qui doit me revenir."Et il leur partagea son avoir. | and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. |
| 13 | Peu de jours après, le plus jeune fils, ayant tout réalisé, partit pour un pays lointain, et il y dissipa son bien en menant une vie de prodigue. | And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living. |
| 14 | Lorsqu'il eut tout dépensé, survint une grande famine dans ce pays, et il commença à sentir le besoin. | And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. |
| 15 | Et il alla se mettre au service d'un habitant de ce pays, qui l'envoya dans ses champs paître des porcs. | And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. |
| 16 | Et il eût bien voulu se remplir le ventre des caroubes que mangeaient les porcs, mais personne ne lui en donnait. | And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. |
| 17 | Alors, rentrant en lui-même, il dit : "Combien de mercenaires de mon père ont du pain en trop, et moi, ici, je meurs de faim ! " | But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father`s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! |
| 18 | Je me lèverai et j'irai à mon père, et je lui dirai : Mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et envers toi; | I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: |
| 19 | je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils : traite-moi comme l'un de tes mercenaires." | I am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of thy hired servants. |
| 20 | Et il se leva et alla vers son père. Comme il était encore loin, son père le vit; et, touché de compassion, il courut, se jeta à son cou, et le couvrit de baisers. | And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. |
| 21 | Le fils lui dit : "Mon père, j'ai péché contre le ciel et envers toi; je ne suis plus digne d'être appelé ton fils." | And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son. |
| 22 | Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs : "Vite, apportez la plus belle robe et l'en revêtez; mettez-lui un anneau au doigt et des chaussures aux pieds; | But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: |
| 23 | et amenez le veau gras, tuez-le; et mangeons, festoyons : | and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry: |
| 24 | car mon fils que voici était mort, et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu, et il a été retrouvé."Et ils se mirent à festoyer. | for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. |
| 25 | Or son fils aîné était aux champs. Quand, à son retour, il approcha de la maison, il entendit de la musique et des choeurs. | Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. |
| 26 | Ayant appelé un des serviteurs, il s'enquit de ce que cela pouvait être. | And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be. |
| 27 | L'autre lui dit : "Votre frère est arrivé, et votre père a tué le veau gras, parce qu'il l'a recouvré bien portant." | And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. |
| 28 | Mais il se mit en colère, et il ne voulait pas entrer. Son père sortit pour l'en prier. | But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him. |
| 29 | Et il répondit à son père : "Voilà tant d'années que je te sers, sans avoir jamais transgressé un ordre de toi, et jamais tu ne m'as donné, à moi, un chevreau pour festoyer avec mes amis. | But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: |
| 30 | Mais, quand est revenu ton fils que voilà, qui a dévoré ton avoir avec des courtisanes, tu as tué pour lui le veau gras ! " | but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf. |
| 31 | Il lui dit : "Toi, mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi. | And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. |
| 32 | Mais il fallait festoyer et se réjouir, car ton frère que voici était mort, et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu, et il a été retrouvé." | But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found. |
