| 1 | En ce même temps quelques-uns qui se trouvaient là présents, lui racontèrent ce qui s'était passé touchant les Galiléens, desquels Pilate avait mêlé le sang avec leurs sacrifices. | Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. |
| 2 | Et Jésus répondant leur dit: croyez-vous que ces Galiléens fussent plus pécheurs que tous les Galiléens, parce qu'ils ont souffert de telles choses? | And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things? |
| 3 | Non, vous dis-je; mais si vous ne vous repentez, vous périrez tous de la même manière. | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. |
| 4 | Ou croyez-vous que ces dix-huit sur qui la tour de Siloé tomba, et les tua, fussent plus coupables que tous les habitants de Jérusalem? | Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? |
| 5 | Non, vous dis-je; mais si vous ne vous repentez, vous périrez tous de la même manière. | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
| 6 | Il disait aussi cette parabole: quelqu'un avait un figuier planté dans sa vigne, et il y vint chercher du fruit, mais il n'y en trouva point. | And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. |
| 7 | Et il dit au vigneron: voici, il y a trois ans que je viens chercher du fruit en ce figuier, et je n'y en trouve point; coupe-le; pourquoi occupe-t-il inutilement la terre? | And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? |
| 8 | Et le vigneron répondant, lui dit: Seigneur, laisse-le encore pour cette année, jusqu'à ce que je l'aie déchaussé, et que j'y aie mis du fumier. | And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: |
| 9 | Que s'il fait du fruit, tu le laisseras; sinon, tu le couperas après cela. | and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down. |
| 10 | Or comme il enseignait dans une de leurs Synagogues un jour de Sabbat, | And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day. |
| 11 | Voici, il y avait là une femme qui était possédée d'un démon qui la rendait malade depuis dix-huit ans, et elle était courbée, et ne pouvait nullement se redresser. | And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. |
| 12 | Et quand Jésus l'eut vue, il l'appela, et lui dit: femme, tu es délivrée de ta maladie. | And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. |
| 13 | Et il posa les mains sur elle; et dans ce moment elle fut redressée, et glorifiait Dieu. | And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. |
| 14 | Mais le Maître de la Synagogue, indigné de ce que Jésus avait guéri au jour du Sabbat, prenant la parole dit à l'assemblée: il y a six jours auxquels il faut travailler; venez donc ces jours-là, et soyez guéris, et non point au jour du Sabbat. | And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath. |
| 15 | Et le Seigneur lui répondit, et dit: hypocrite, chacun de vous ne détache-t-il pas son boeuf ou son âne de la crèche le jour du Sabbat, et ne les mène-t-il pas boire? | But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? |
| 16 | Et ne fallait-il pas délier de ce lien au jour du Sabbat celle-ci qui est fille d'Abraham, laquelle Satan avait liée il y a déjà dix-huit ans? | And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, [these] eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath? |
| 17 | Comme il disait ces choses, tous ses adversaires étaient confus; mais toutes les troupes se réjouissaient de toutes les choses glorieuses qu'il opérait. | And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. |
| 18 | Il disait aussi: à quoi est semblable le Royaume de Dieu, et à quoi le comparerai-je? | He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? |
| 19 | Il est semblable au grain de semence de moutarde qu'un homme prit, et mit en son jardin, lequel crût, et devint un grand arbre, tellement que les oiseaux du ciel faisaient leurs nids dans ses branches. | It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. |
| 20 | Il dit encore: à quoi comparerai-je le Royaume de Dieu? | And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? |
| 21 | Il est semblable au levain qu'une femme prit, et qu'elle mit parmi trois mesures de farine, jusqu'à ce qu'elle fût toute levée. | It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. |
| 22 | Puis il s'en allait par les villes et par les bourgades, enseignant, et tenant le chemin de Jérusalem. | And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem. |
| 23 | Et quelqu'un lui dit: Seigneur, n'y a-t-il que peu de gens qui soient sauvés? | And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them, |
| 24 | Et il leur dit: faites effort pour entrer par la porte étroite; car je vous dis que plusieurs tâcheront d'entrer, et ils ne le pourront. | Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able. |
| 25 | Et après que le père de famille se sera levé, et qu'il aura fermé la porte, et que vous étant dehors vous vous mettrez à heurter à la porte, en disant: Seigneur! Seigneur! ouvre-nous; et que lui vous répondant vous dira: je ne sais d'où vous êtes; | When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are; |
| 26 | Alors vous vous mettrez à dire: nous avons mangé et bu en ta présence, et tu as enseigné dans nos rues. | then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets; |
| 27 | Mais il dira: je vous dis que je ne sais d'où vous êtes; retirez-vous de moi, vous tous qui faites le métier d'iniquité. | and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. |
| 28 | Là il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents; quand vous verrez Abraham, et Isaac, et Jacob, et tous les Prophètes dans le Royaume de Dieu, et que vous serez jetés dehors. | There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. |
| 29 | Il en viendra aussi d'Orient, et d'Occident, et du Septentrion, et du Midi, qui seront à table dans le Royaume de Dieu. | And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. |
| 30 | Voici, votre maison va être déserte; et je vous dis en vérité, que vous ne me verrez point jusqu'à ce qu'il arrivera que vous direz: béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur. | And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. |
| 31 | En ce même jour-là quelques Pharisiens vinrent à lui et lui dirent: retire-toi et t'en va d'ici; car Hérode te veut tuer. | In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee. |
| 32 | Et il leur répondit: allez, et dites à ce renard: voici, je chasse les démons, et j'achève aujourd'hui et demain de faire des guérisons, et le troisième jour je prends fin. | And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected. |
| 33 | C'est pourquoi il me faut marcher aujourd'hui et demain, et le jour suivant; car il n'arrive point qu'un Prophète meure hors de Jérusalem. | Nevertheless I must go on my way to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. |
| 34 | Jérusalem, Jérusalem, qui tues les Prophètes, et qui lapides ceux qui te sont envoyés; combien de fois ai-je voulu rassembler tes enfants, comme la poule rassemble ses poussins sous ses ailes, et vous ne l'avez point voulu? | O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not! |
| 35 | Voici, votre maison va être déserte; et je vous dis en vérité, que vous ne me verrez point jusqu'à ce qu'il arrivera que vous direz: béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur. | Behold, your house is left unto you [desolate]: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
