| 1 | Or, en ce même temps, quelques-uns vinrent lui rapporter ce qui était arrivé aux Galiléens, dont Pilate avait mêlé le sang à celui de leurs victimes. | Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. |
| 2 | Prenant la parole, il leur dit : "Pensez-vous que ces Galiléens fussent de plus grands pécheurs que tous les (autres) Galiléens, pour avoir souffert de la sorte ? | And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things? |
| 3 | Non, je vous le dis; mais si vous ne vous repentez pas, vous périrez tous de même. | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. |
| 4 | Ou bien ces dix-huit, sur qui est tombée la tour de Siloé et qu'elle a tués, pensez-vous que leur dette fût plus grande que celle de tous les (autres) hommes qui habitent à Jérusalem ? | Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? |
| 5 | Non, je vous le dis; mais si vous ne vous repentez pas, vous périrez tous pareillement." | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
| 6 | Et il disait cette parabole : "Quelqu'un avait un figuier planté dans sa vigne; il vint y chercher des fruits, et il n'en trouva point. | And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. |
| 7 | Et il dit au vigneron : "Voilà trois ans que je viens chercher des fruits sur ce figuier, et je n'en trouve point; coupe-le : pourquoi aussi rend-il la terre inutile ?" | And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? |
| 8 | Il lui répondit : "Maître, laissez-le encore cette année, jusqu'à ce que j'aie creusé tout autour et mis du fumier. | And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: |
| 9 | Et s'il donnait des fruits à la saison prochaine… Sinon, vous le couperez." | and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down. |
| 10 | Il enseignait dans une synagogue un jour de sabbat. | And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day. |
| 11 | Et il y avait là une femme tenue depuis dix-huit ans par un esprit qui la rendait infirme : elle était courbée et ne pouvait absolument pas lever la tête. | And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. |
| 12 | L'ayant vue, Jésus l'appela et lui dit : "Femme, tu es délivrée de ton infirmité." | And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. |
| 13 | Et il lui imposa les mains; aussitôt elle se redressa, et elle glorifiait Dieu. | And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. |
| 14 | Mais le chef de synagogue, indigné de ce que Jésus avait guéri le jour du sabbat, prit la parole et dit à la foule : "Il y a six jours pour travailler; venez donc vous faire guérir ces jours-là et non pas le jour du sabbat." | And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath. |
| 15 | Le Seigneur lui répliqua : "Hypocrites ! Est-ce que chacun de vous, le jour du sabbat, ne détache pas de la crèche son boeuf ou son âne pour le mener boire ? | But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? |
| 16 | Et cette (femme), une fille d'Abraham, que Satan tenait liée depuis dix-huit ans, ne fallait-il pas la délivrer de ce lien le jour du sabbat ?" | And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, [these] eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath? |
| 17 | Pendant qu'il parlait ainsi, tous ses adversaires étaient couverts de confusion, et toute la foule se réjouissait de toutes les choses merveilleuses accomplies par lui. | And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. |
| 18 | Il disait donc : "A quoi le royaume de Dieu est-il semblable, et à quoi le comparerai-je ? | He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? |
| 19 | Il est semblable à un grain de sénevé qu'un homme a pris et a jeté dans son jardin; il a poussé et il est devenu un grand arbre, et les oiseaux du ciel ont niché dans ses branches." | It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. |
| 20 | Il dit encore : "A quoi comparerai-je le royaume de Dieu ? | And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? |
| 21 | Il est semblable au levain qu'une femme prit et mélangea dans trois mesures de farine, jusqu'à ce que le tout eût fermenté." | It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. |
| 22 | Et il passait par les villes et bourgs, enseignant et faisant route vers Jérusalem. | And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem. |
| 23 | Quelqu'un lui dit : "Seigneur, n'y aura-t-il qu'un petit nombre de sauvés ?"Et il leur dit : | And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them, |
| 24 | "Luttez pour entrer par la porte étroite; car beaucoup, je vous le dis, chercheront à entrer et ne pourront pas, | Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able. |
| 25 | après que le maître de maison se sera levé et aura fermé la porte, et que, demeurés dehors, vous vous mettrez à frapper à la porte, disant : "Seigneur, ouvrez-nous ! "Et il vous répondra : "Je ne sais d'où vous êtes." | When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are; |
| 26 | Alors vous vous mettrez à dire : "Nous avons mangé et bu devant vous, et vous avez enseigné sur nos places." | then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets; |
| 27 | Et il dira : "Je vous le dis, je ne sais d'où vous êtes. Retirez-vous de moi, vous tous, artisans d'iniquité." | and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. |
| 28 | Là seront les pleurs et le grincement de dents, lorsque vous verrez Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, et tous les prophètes dans le royaume de Dieu, et vous rejetés dehors. | There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. |
| 29 | Et l'on viendra de l'Orient et de l'Occident, de l'Aquilon et du Midi, pour prendre place à table dans le royaume de Dieu. | And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. |
| 30 | Et voici : il y a des derniers qui seront premiers, et des premiers qui seront derniers." | And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. |
| 31 | Au même moment, quelques Pharisiens vinrent lui dire : "Partez et allez-vous en d'ici, car Hérode veut vous tuer." | In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee. |
| 32 | Et il leur dit : "Allez-vous-en dire à ce renard : Voici que je chasse les démons et que j'opère des guérisons aujourd'hui et demain, et le troisième jour je suis à terme. | And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected. |
| 33 | Seulement, il faut que je poursuive ma route aujourd'hui, et demain, et le jour suivant, car il n'est pas admissible qu'un prophète périsse hors de Jérusalem. | Nevertheless I must go on my way to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. |
| 34 | Jérusalem, Jérusalem, qui tues les prophètes et lapides ceux qui te sont envoyés ! Que de fois j'ai voulu rassembler tes enfants comme une poule sa couvée sous ses ailes, et vous n'avez pas voulu ! | O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not! |
| 35 | Voici que votre maison va vous être laissée (déserte). Je vous le dis, vous ne me verrez plus que ne [soit venu quand] vous direz : Béni celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur ! " | Behold, your house is left unto you [desolate]: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
