| 1 | La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Jéhovah, disant : | The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, |
| 2 | Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison de Jéhovah, et là prononce cette parole et dis : Ecoutez la parole de Jéhovah, vous tous, hommes de Juda, Qui entrez par ces portes pour adorer Jéhovah. | Stand in the gate of Jehovah`s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah. |
| 3 | Ainsi parle Jéhovah des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres, Et je vous ferai habiter dans ce lieu. | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. |
| 4 | Ne vous fiez pas aux paroles de mensonge de ceux qui disent : "C'est ici le temple de Jéhovah, Le temple de Jéhovah, Le temple de Jéhovah!" | Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these. |
| 5 | Mais si vous réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres, Si vous jugez justement entre un homme et son prochain; | For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; |
| 6 | Si vous n'opprimez pas l'étranger, L'orphelin et la veuve, Si vous ne répandez pas en ce lieu le sang innocent, Et si vous n'allez pas après d'autres dieux pour votre malheur : | if ye oppress not the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: |
| 7 | Alors je vous ferai habiter dans ce lieu; Au pays que j'ai donné à vos pères, d'âge en âge. | then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even for evermore. |
| 8 | Mais vous vous fiez à des paroles de mensonge, Qui ne vous servent de rien. | Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. |
| 9 | Quoi! voler, tuer, commettre l'adultère, Jurer faussement, encenser Baal Et aller après d'autres dieux que, vous ne connaissez pas! | Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods that ye have not known, |
| 10 | Et vous venez, vous vous présentez devant moi Dans cette maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué, Et vous dites : "Nous échapperons!"Et c'est afin de commettre toutes ces abominations! | and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that ye may do all these abominations? |
| 11 | Est-ce donc à vos yeux une caverne de brigands, Que cette maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué ? Moi aussi, je l'ai vu, dit Jéhovah. | Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, saith Jehovah. |
| 12 | Allez à ma demeure qui était à Silo, Où j'avais fait autrefois habiter mon nom, Et voyez comment je l'ai traitée A cause de la méchanceté de mon peuple d'Israël. | But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel. |
| 13 | Et maintenant, puisque vous avez fait toutes ces actions, Dit Jéhovah, et que je vous ai parle, Vous parlant dès le matin, et vous n'avez pas écouté, Et que je vous ai appelés, et vous n'avez pas répondu, | And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not: |
| 14 | Je ferai de cette maison, sur laquelle mon nom a été invoqué, Dans laquelle vous mettez votre confiance, Et de ce lieu que j'avais donné à vous et à vos pères, Ce que j'ai fait de Silo, | therefore will I do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. |
| 15 | Et je vous rejetterai de devant moi, Comme j'ai rejeté tous vos frères, Toute la race d'Ephraïm. | And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim. |
| 16 | Et toi, n'intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple; N'élève pour lui ni plainte ni prière, Et n'insiste pas auprès de moi, Car je ne t'écouterai pas. | Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear thee. |
| 17 | Ne vois-tu pas, ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda Et dans les rues de Jérusalem ? | Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? |
| 18 | Les fils ramassent du bois, Les pères allument le feu, Les femmes pétrissent de la pâte Pour faire des gâteaux à la reine du ciel, Et l'on répand des libations à d'autres dieux, Pour m'offenser. | The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. |
| 19 | Est-ce moi qu'ils offensent! dit Jéhovah; N'est-ce pas eux-mêmes, à la honte de leur visage ? | Do they provoke me to anger? saith Jehovah; [do they] not [provoke] themselves, to the confusion of their own faces? |
| 20 | C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Jéhovah : Ma colère et ma fureur vont se répandre sur ce lieu, Sur les hommes et sur les bêtes, Sur l'arbre des champs et sur le fruit du sol; Elle brûlera et ne s'éteindra point, | Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. |
| 21 | Ainsi parle Jéhovah, Dieu des armées, Le Dieu d'Israël : Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos sacrifices, Et mangez-en la chair; | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat ye flesh. |
| 22 | Car je n'ai pas parlé à vos pères Et je ne leur ai pas donné de commandements En matière d'holocaustes et de sacrifices, Le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte. | For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt-offerings or sacrifices: |
| 23 | Mais voici le commandement que je leur ai donné : Ecoutez ma voix, Et je serai votre Dieu, Et vous serez mon peuple; Marchez dans toutes les voies que je vous prescrirai, Afin que vous soyez heureux. | but this thing I commanded them, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk ye in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you. |
| 24 | Mais ils n'ont point écouté, Ils n'ont point prêté l'oreille Et ils ont marché selon leurs conseils, Selon l'endurcissement de leur mauvais coeur; Ils sont allés en arrière, et non en avant. | But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in [their own] counsels [and] in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. |
| 25 | Depuis le jour où vos pères sont sortis d'Egypte jusqu'à ce jour, Je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs les prophètes, Les envoyant chaque jour dès le matin; | Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day, I have sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: |
| 26 | Mais ils ne m'ont pas écouté, Ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille; Ils ont raidi leur cou, Ils ont fait pis que leurs pères. | yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers. |
| 27 | Dis-leur toutes ces choses, ils ne t'écouteront pas; Crie à leurs oreilles, ils ne te répondront pas. | And thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. |
| 28 | Alors tu diras d'eux : C'est la nation qui n'a pas obéi à la voix de Jéhovah, son Dieu, Et ne s'est pas laissé instruire; La fidélité a péri; Elle a disparu de sa bouche. | And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth. |
| 29 | Rase ta chevelure, fille de Sion, Et entonne sur les hauteurs un chant de deuil, Car Jéhovah a pris en dédain, Il a rejeté la race, objet de sa colère. | Cut off thy hair, [O Jerusalem], and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. |
| 30 | Car les fils de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, Dit Jéhovah; Ils ont placé leurs abominations Dans la maison sur laquelle mon nom a été invoqué, Afin de la souiller; | For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, saith Jehovah: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it. |
| 31 | Et ils ont construit les hauts lieux de Topheth Dans la vallée du fils de Hinnom, Pour brûler au feu leurs fils et leurs filles, Ce que je n'avais point commandé Et qui ne m'était pas venu à la pensée. | And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither came it into my mind. |
| 32 | C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, dit Jéhovah, Où l'on ne dira plus "Topheth, "Ni "vallée du fils de Hinnom, "Mais "vallée du massacre, "Et où l'on enterrera à Topheth, faute de place. | Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place [to bury]. |
| 33 | Et les cadavres de ce peuple serviront de pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, Sans qu'il y ait personne pour les chasser. | And the dead bodies of this people shall be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall frighten them away. |
| 34 | Et je ferai cesser, Dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, Les cris de réjouissance et les cris d'allégresse, Le chant de l'époux et le chant de l'épouse, Car le pays sera devenu un désert. | Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste. |
