| 1 | Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it. | Andate attorno per le vie di Gerusalemme: guardate e rendetevi conto, e cercate per le sue piazze se trovate un uomo, se ce n'è uno solo che pratichi la giustizia, che cerchi la verità, e io la perdonerò. |

| 7 | How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. | Come potrei perdonarti per questo? | 10 | Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's. | Salite sulle mura e distruggete, ma non effettuate una distruzione completa; portate via i suoi tralci, perché non sono dell'Eterno. |
| 11 | For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD. | Poiché la casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda hanno agito perfidamente con me, dice l'Eterno. |
| 12 | They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: | Hanno rinnegato l'Eterno e hanno detto: Non è lui. Nessun male ci verrà addosso; non vedremo né spada né fame. |
| 13 | And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them. | I profeti non sono che vento, e in loro non c'è la parola di Dio. Sia fatto a loro ciò che dicono a noi. |
| 14 | Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. | Perciò così dice l'Eterno, il DIO degli eserciti: Perché avete parlato in questo modo, io renderò le mie parole come fuoco nella tua bocca, e questo popolo come legna, che esso divorerà. |
| 15 | Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say. | Ecco io farò venire contro di voi una nazione da lontano, o casa d'Israele, dice l'Eterno. | 17 | And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword. | Essa divorerà le tue messi e il tuo pane, divorerà i tuoi figli e le tue figlie, divorerà le tue greggi e i tuoi armenti, divorerà le tue vigne e i tuoi fichi; distruggerà con la spada le tue città fortificate nelle quali confidi. |

| 19 | And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's. | E avverrà che quando direte: "Perché l'Eterno, il nostro DIO, ci ha fatto tutte queste cose?" tu risponderai loro: "Come voi avete abbandonato me e avete servito dèi stranieri nel vostro paese, così servirete gli stranieri in un paese che non è vostro". |
| 20 | Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, | Annunziate questo alla casa di Giacobbe e proclamatelo in Giuda, dicendo: |
| 21 | Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: | Ascoltate ora questo, o popolo stolto e senza cuore, che ha occhi ma non vede, che ha orecchi ma non ode. |
| 22 | Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? | Non mi temerete?, dice l'Eterno, non tremerete davanti a me che ho posto la sabbia per limite al mare, come statuto eterno che non oltrepasserà mai? Le sue onde si agitano ma non prevalgono, rumoreggiano ma non la sorpassano". |
| 23 | But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. | Ma questo popolo ha un cuore ostinato e ribelle; si voltano indietro e se ne vanno. |
| 24 | Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. | Non dicono in cuor loro: "Temiamo l'Eterno, il nostro DIO, che dà la pioggia a suo tempo, la prima e l'ultima pioggia, che mantiene per noi le settimane fissate per la mietitura |
| 25 | Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. | Le vostre iniquità hanno sconvolto queste cose e i vostri peccati tengono lontano da voi la prosperità. |
| 26 | For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. | Poiché fra il mio popolo si trovano uomini malvagi che spiano come uccellatori in agguato; essi tendono lacci e catturano uomini. |
| 27 | As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. | Come una gabbia è piena di uccelli, così le loro case sono piene di inganno; perciò diventano grandi e arricchiscono. |
| 28 | They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. | Diventano grassi e prosperosi, sì, oltrepassano i limiti stessi del male. | 30 | A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; | Nel paese si è commessa una cosa spaventevole e orribile: |
| 31 | The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? | i profeti profetizzano falsamente, i sacerdoti governano in forza della propria autorità e il mio popolo ha piacere che sia così. Ma cosa farete quando verrà la fine?. |
