| 1 | Of the children of Ammon. Thus saith Jehovah: Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth Malcam possess Gad, and his people well in the cities thereof? | Contro i figli di Ammon. | 2 | Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel possess them that did possess him, saith Jehovah. | Perciò ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l'Eterno, nei quali io farò udire il grido di guerra contro Rabbah dei figli di Ammon; essa diventerà un cumulo di rovine e le sue borgate saranno consumate dal fuoco. | 3 | Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste; cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth: lament, and run to and fro among the fences; for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together. | Gemi o Heshbon, perché Ai è devastata; gridate, o borgate di Rabbah, cingetevi di sacco, innalzate lamenti, correte qua e là entro i recinti del gregge perché Malkam va in cattività insieme ai suoi sacerdoti e ai suoi principi. |

| 5 | Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, from all that are round about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives. | Ecco, io ti farò venire addosso il terrore, dice il Signore, l'Eterno degli eserciti, da tutti quelli che ti circondano, e voi sarete scacciati, ognuno diritto davanti a se, e non vi sarà chi raduni i fuggiaschi. |
| 6 | But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith Jehovah. | Ma dopo questo io farò ritornare dalla cattività i figli di Ammon, dice l'Eterno. |
| 7 | Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? | Contro Edom. Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Non c'è più sapienza in Teman? E' forse venuto meno il consiglio agli intelligenti? E' svanita la loro sapienza? |
| 8 | Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him. | Fuggite, tornate indietro, andate ad abitare nelle profondità della terra o abitanti di Dedan, perché farò venire la calamità di Esaù su di lui nel tempo della sua punizione. |
| 9 | If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough? | Se dei vendemmiatori venissero da te non lascerebbero qualche grappoletto da racimolare? Se dei ladri venissero da te di notte distruggerebbero solo quanto loro basta. |
| 10 | But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors; and he is not. | Ma io metterò a nudo Esaù e scoprirò i suoi nascondigli, ed egli non potrà più nascondersi. La sua discendenza, i suoi fratelli e i suoi vicini saranno distrutti, ed egli non sarà più. |
| 11 | Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me. | Lascia i tuoi orfani, io li conserverò in vita, e le tue vedove confidino in me. |
| 12 | For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, they to whom it pertained not to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink. | Poiché così dice l'Eterno: Ecco, quelli che non erano destinati a bere il calice, lo berranno certamente; e tu andresti del tutto impunito? Non andrai impunito, ma lo berrai certamente. |
| 13 | For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes. | Poiché io ho giurato per me stesso, dice l'Eterno, Botsrah diventerà un oggetto di stupore e di scherno, una desolazione e una maledizione, e tutte le sue città saranno una desolazione per sempre. |
| 14 | I have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, [saying], Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. | Ho udito un messaggio dall'Eterno, e un messaggero è stato inviato alle nazioni: adunatevi e andate contro di lui; alzatevi per la battaglia" |
| 15 | For, behold, I have made thee small among the nations, and despised among men. | Poiché ecco, io ti renderò piccolo tra le nazioni e disprezzato fra gli uomini. |
| 16 | As for thy terribleness, the pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah. | il terrore che ispiravi e l'orgoglio del tuo cuore ti hanno sedotto o tu che abiti nelle fessure delle rocce, che occupi la sommità delle colline, anche se facessi il tuo nido in alto come l'aquila, ti farò precipitare di lassù, dice l'Eterno. |
| 17 | And Edom shall become an astonishment: every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof. | Edom diventerà un oggetto di stupore, chiunque gli passerà vicino rimarrà stupito e fischierà per tutte le sue ferite. |
| 18 | As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, saith Jehovah, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. | Come nella distruzione di Sodoma e di Gomorra, e delle loro città vicine, dice l'Eterno, nessuno più vi abiterà né alcun figlio d'uomo vi dimorerà. |
| 19 | Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that will stand before me? | Ecco, egli salirà come un leone dal rigonfiamento del Giordano contro la forte dimora; io lo farò improvvisamente fuggire di là e stabilirò su di esso colui che ho scelto. Chi infatti è come me? Chi mi citerà in giudizio? Chi è dunque il pastore che può tenermi fronte? |
| 20 | Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, [even] the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. | Perciò ascoltate il disegno che l'Eterno ha concepito contro Edom e le decisioni che ha preso contro gli abitanti di Teman. Certo saranno trascinati via anche i più piccoli del gregge, certo la loro dimora sarà devastata. |
| 21 | The earth trembleth at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise whereof is heard in the Red Sea. | Al rumore della loro caduta la terra tremerà; il suono del loro grido sarà udito fino al Mar Rosso. |
| 22 | Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. | Ecco, il nemico sale, spicca il volo come l'aquila e spiega le sue ali verso Botsrah e il cuore dei prodi di Edom in quel giorno sarà come il cuore di una donna nelle doglie di parto. |
| 23 | Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil tidings, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. | Contro Damasco. | 26 | Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith Jehovah of hosts. | Perciò i suoi giovani cadranno nelle sue piazze e tutti gli uomini di guerra periranno in quel giorno, dice l'Eterno degli eserciti. |
| 27 | And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad. | Io appiccherò il fuoco alle mura di Damasco, ed esso divorerà i palazzi di Ben-Hadad. |
| 28 | Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote. Thus saith Jehovah: Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and destroy the children of the east. | Contro Kedar e i regni di Hatsor, che Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, sconfisse. Così dice l'Eterno: Levatevi, salite contro Kedar e distruggete i figli dell'est. |
| 29 | Their tents and their flocks shall they take; they shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Terror on every side! | Le loro tende e le loro greggi saranno prese; i loro padiglioni, tutti i loro attrezzi e i loro cammelli saranno portati via; si griderà loro: "spavento da tutte le parti |
| 30 | Flee ye, wander far off, dwell in the depths, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith Jehovah; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you. | Fuggite, andate lontano ad abitare nelle profondità della terra, o abitanti di Hatsor, dice l'Eterno, poiché Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, ha formato un disegno contro di voi, ha concepito un piano contro di voi. |
| 31 | Arise, get you up unto a nation that is at ease, that dwelleth without care, saith Jehovah; that have neither gates nor bars, that dwell alone. | Levatevi, salite contro una nazione tranquilla che abita al sicuro, dice l'Eterno, che non ha né porte né sbarre e dimora solitaria. |
| 32 | And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter unto all winds them that have the corners [of their hair] cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, saith Jehovah. | I loro cammelli saranno portati via come bottino e il gran numero del loro bestiame come preda. Io disperderò a tutti i venti quelli che si tagliano gli angoli della barba e farò venire la loro calamità da tutte le parti, dice l'Eterno. |
| 33 | And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation for ever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. | Hatsor diventerà una dimora di sciacalli, una desolazione per sempre; nessuno più vi abiterà né alcun figlio d'uomo vi dimorerà. |
| 34 | The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, | La parola dell'Eterno che fu rivolta al profeta Geremia contro Elam, all'inizio del regno di Sedekia, re di Giuda, dicendo: |
| 35 | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. | Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, io spezzerò l'arco di Elam, il nerbo della sua forza. |
| 36 | And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come. | Io farò venire contro Elam i quattro venti dalle quattro estremità del cielo; li disperderò a tutti quei venti e non ci sarà nazione dove non giungano i fuggiaschi di Elam. |
| 37 | And I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life; and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith Jehovah; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them; | Renderò gli Elamiti spaventati davanti ai loro nemici e davanti a quelli che cercano la loro vita; farò venire su di loro la calamità, la mia ira ardente, dice l'Eterno. Manderò dietro di loro la spada finché non li avrò consumati. |
| 38 | and I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence king and princes, saith Jehovah. | Porrò quindi il mio trono in Elam e ne farò perire i re e i principi, dice l'Eterno. |
| 39 | But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam, saith Jehovah. | Ma negli ultimi giorni avverrà che farò ritornare Elam dalla cattività, dice l'Eterno. |
