Pourquoi Melchom a-t-il pris possession de Gad, Et son peuple s'est-il installé dans ses villes ? | Of the children of Ammon. Thus saith Jehovah: Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth Malcam possess Gad, and his people well in the cities thereof? |
| 2 | C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, dit Jéhovah, Où je ferai retentir le cri de guerre contre Rabba des enfants d'Ammon; Elle deviendra un monceau de ruines, Et ses filles seront livrées au feu, Et Israël héritera de ceux qui ont hérité de lui. | Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel possess them that did possess him, saith Jehovah. |

Oui, elle est riche, ta vallée, fille rebelle, Qui te confiais dans tes trésors, disant : Qui oserait venir contre moi ? | Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, [saying], Who shall come unto me? |
| 5 | Et moi, de tous les alentours je ferai venir sur toi la terreur, Dit le Seigneur, Jéhovah des armées; Vous serez chassé chacun droit devant soi, Et personne ne ralliera les fuyards. - | Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, from all that are round about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives. |
| 6 | Mais après cela, je ramènerai les captifs des enfants d'Ammon, Dit Jéhovah. | But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith Jehovah. |
| 7 | A Edom. Ainsi parle Jéhovah, des armées : N'y a-t-il plus de sage en Théman ? Les avisés sont-ils à bout de conseils ? Leur sagesse s'est-elle évanouie ? | Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? |
| 8 | Fuyez, retournez sur vos pas, Blottissez-vous, habitants de Dédan Car j'amènerai sur Esaü la ruine, Le temps où je le visite. | Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him. |
| 9 | Si des vendangeurs sont venus chez toi, Ils n'ont rien laissé à grappiller; Si ce sont des voleurs de nuit, Ils ont pillé tout leur soûl. | If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough? |
| 10 | Car c'est moi qui ai mis à nu Esaü Et découvert ses retraites, Et il ne peut plus se cacher; Tout est ravagé, sa race, ses frères, ses voisins; Il ne reste personne. | But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors; and he is not. |
| 11 | Abandonne tes orphelins, c'est moi qui les ferai vivre, Et que tes veuves se confient en moi. | Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me. |
| 12 | Car ainsi parle Jéhovah : Ceux qui ne devaient pas boire cette coupe la boiront; Et toi, tu en serais tenu quitte ? Non, tu n'en seras pas tenu quitte, Il faudra que tu boives! | For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, they to whom it pertained not to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink. |
| 13 | Car je l'ai juré par moi-même, dit Jéhovah : Bosra sera un sujet d'étonnement et d'opprobre; Un lieu désert et maudit, Et toutes ses villes seront des ruines à jamais. | For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes. |
| 14 | J'en ai appris de Jéhovah la nouvelle, Et un messager a été envoyé parmi les nations : "Rassemblez-vous et marchez contre lui! Levez-vous pour le combat!" | I have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, [saying], Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. |
| 15 | Car je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations, Méprisé parmi les hommes. | For, behold, I have made thee small among the nations, and despised among men. |
| 16 | Tu inspirais la terreur, Et la fierté de ton coeur t'a égaré, Toi qui habites le creux des rochers, Qui occupe le sommet de la colline; Mais quand tu élèverais ton aire, comme l'aigle, Je t'en précipiterai, dit Jéhovah. | As for thy terribleness, the pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah. |
| 17 | Edom sera un désert; Tous les passants seront dans l'étonnement Et siffleront à la vue de ses plaies. | And Edom shall become an astonishment: every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof. |
| 18 | Ce sera comme la catastrophe de Sodome, de Gomorrhe Et des villes voisines, dit Jéhovah; Personne n'y habitera; Aucun fils de l'homme n'y séjournera. | As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, saith Jehovah, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. |
| 19 | Pareil à un lion, voici qu'il monte Des halliers du Jourdain au pays des rochers; Soudain j'en ferai fuir Edom Et j'y établirai celui que j'ai choisi. Car qui est semblable à moi ? Qui me provoquerait, Et quel est le berger qui me tiendrait tête ? | Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that will stand before me? |
| 20 | Ecoutez donc la résolution que Jéhovah a prise contre Edom, Et les desseins qu'il a médités contre les habitants de Théman : Oui, on les entraînera comme de faibles brebis; Oui, on dévastera après eux leur demeure. | Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, [even] the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. |
| 21 | Au bruit de leur chute, la terre tremble; Leur cri retentit jusqu'à la mer Rouge.- | The earth trembleth at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise whereof is heard in the Red Sea. |
| 22 | Comme l'aigle, il prend son vol, il plane, Il étend les ailes sur Bosra, Et le coeur des guerriers d'Edom devient en ce jour Comme le coeur d'une femme en travail. | Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. |
| 23 | A Damas. Hamath et Arphad sont dans la confusion, Parce qu'elles ont reçu une mauvaise nouvelle; Elles se fondent de peur; C'est la mer en tourmente, qui ne peut s'apaiser. | Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil tidings, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. |
| 24 | Damas est sans force, elle se tourne pour fuir, Et l'effroi s'empare d'elle; L'angoisse et les douleurs la saisissent, Comme une femme qui enfante. | Damascus is waxed feeble, she turneth herself to flee, and trembling hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail. |
| 25 | Comment ne l'a-t-on pas abandonnée, La ville glorieuse, la cité qui faisait ma joie! | How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy? |
| 26 | Aussi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places, Et tous ses hommes de guerre périront en ce jour-là, Dit Jéhovah des armées. | Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith Jehovah of hosts. |
| 27 | J'allumerai un feu dans les murs de Damas, Et il dévorera le palais de Ben-Hadad. | And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad. |
| 28 | A Cédar et aux royaumes de Hasor, que frappa Nabuchodonosor; roi de Babylone. Ainsi parle Jéhovah : Debout! Marchez contre Cédar, Exterminez les fils de l'Orient! | Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote. Thus saith Jehovah: Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and destroy the children of the east. |
| 29 | On prendra leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux; On leur enlèvera leurs tentures, Tous leurs bagages et leurs chameaux; On leur criera : Terreur de toutes parts! | Their tents and their flocks shall they take; they shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Terror on every side! |
| 30 | Sauvez-vous, fuyez de toutes vos forces, Blottissez-vous sous terre, Habitants de Hasor! dit Jéhovah; Car Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, a formé contre vous un dessein, Il a conçu un projet contre vous. | Flee ye, wander far off, dwell in the depths, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith Jehovah; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you. |
| 31 | Debout! Marchez contre un peuple tranquille, En assurance dans sa demeure, dit Jéhovah; Il n'a ni portes, ni barres; il vit à l'écart. | Arise, get you up unto a nation that is at ease, that dwelleth without care, saith Jehovah; that have neither gates nor bars, that dwell alone. |
| 32 | Leurs chameaux seront au pillage, Et la multitude de leurs troupeaux un facile butin. Je les disperserai à tous les vents, Ces hommes aux tempes rasées, Et de tous côtés je ferai venir sur eux la ruine, dit Jéhovah. | And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter unto all winds them that have the corners [of their hair] cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, saith Jehovah. |
| 33 | Et Hasor deviendra un repaire de chacals, Une solitude pour toujours; Personne n'y demeurera, Aucun fils d'homme n'y séjournera. | And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation for ever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. |
| 34 | La parole de Jéhovah qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, pour Elam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, en ces termes : | The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, |
| 35 | Ainsi parle Jéhovah des armées : Je vais briser l'arc d'Elam, Principe de sa force. | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. |
| 36 | Je ferai venir sur Elam quatre vents, des quatre coins du ciel, Et je le disperserai à tous ces vents, Et il n'y aura pas une nation Où n'arrivent les fugitifs d'Elam. | And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come. |
| 37 | Je ferai trembler les Elamites devant leurs ennemis Et devant ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; J'amènerai sur eux des malheurs, Le feu de mon ardente colère, dit Jéhovah, Et j'enverrai après eux l'épée, Jusqu'à ce que je les aie anéantis. | And I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life; and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith Jehovah; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them; |
| 38 | Je placerai mon trône en Elam, Et j'exterminerai son roi et ses chefs, dit Jéhovah. – | and I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence king and princes, saith Jehovah. |
| 39 | Mais à la fin des jours, Je ferai revenir les captifs d'Elam, dit Jéhovah. | But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam, saith Jehovah. |
