| 2 | Et il n'obéit point, ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni le peuple du pays; aux paroles que Jéhovah avait prononcées par Jérémie, le prophète. | But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of Jehovah, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. |
| 3 | Le roi Sédécias envoya Juchal, fils de Sélémias, et Sophonie, fils de Maasias, le prêtre, vers Jérémie le prophète, pour lui dire : "Intercède pour nous, je te prie, auprès de Jéhovah, notre Dieu." | And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto Jehovah our God for us. |
| 4 | Jérémie allait et venait alors parmi le peuple, n'ayant pas encore été mis en prison. | Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison. |
| 5 | Or l'armée de Pharaon était sortie d'Egypte, et les Chaldéens qui assiégeaient Jérusalem, en ayant reçu la nouvelle, levèrent le siège de Jérusalem. | And Pharaoh`s army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that were besieging Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they brake up from Jerusalem. |
| 6 | Alors la parole de Jéhovah fut adressée à Jérémie le prophète en ces termes : | Then came the word of Jehovah unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying, |
| 7 | Jéhovah, Dieu d'Israël, parle ainsi : Vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyé pour m'interroger : L’armée de Pharaon qui est sortie pour vous secourir va retourner au pays d'Egypte; | Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh`s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. |
| 8 | et les Chaldéens reviendront combattre contre cette ville; ils la prendront et la brûleront. | And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire. |
| 9 | Ainsi parle Jéhovah : Ne vous faites pas illusion en disant : Les Chaldéens s'en iront tout à fait de notre pays; car ils ne s'en iront pas. | Thus saith Jehovah, Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart. |
| 10 | Et même quand vous auriez battu toute l'armée des Chaldéens qui combattent contre vous, et qu'il ne resterait d'eux que des blessés, ils se relèveraient chacun de sa tente et brûleraient cette ville. | For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yea would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. |
| 11 | Pendant que l'armée des Chaldéens s'était éloignée de Jérusalem à cause de l'armée de Pharaon, | And it came to pass that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh`s army, |
| 12 | Jérémie sortit de Jérusalem pour aller au pays de Benjamin, afin de retirer de là sa portion au milieu du peuple. | then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people. |
| 13 | Mais quand il fut arrivé à la porte de Benjamin, le capitaine de la garde, nommé Jérias, fils de Sélémias, fils de Hananias, arrêta Jérémie, le prophète, en disant : "Tu passes aux Chaldéens." | And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art falling away to the Chaldeans. |
| 14 | Jérémie répondit : "C'est, faux, je ne passe pas aux Chaldéens."Mais Jérias ne l'écouta point; il arrêta Jérémie et l'amena aux chefs. | Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. |
| 15 | Et les chefs s'emportèrent contre Jérémie; ils le battirent et le mirent en prison dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire; car ils en avaient fait une prison. | And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison. |
| 16 | Lorsque Jérémie eut été mis dans la basse-fosse, sons les voûtes, et qu'il y fût resté bien des jours, | When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; |
| 17 | Sédécias le fit tirer de là; il l'interrogea secrètement dans sa maison, en disant : "Y a-t-il une parole de Jéhovah ?"Jérémie répondit : "Oui, "et il ajouta : "Tu seras livré entre les mains du roi de Babylone. | Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. |
| 18 | Jérémie dit encore au roi Sédécias : "Quelle offense ai-je commise contre toi, contre tes serviteurs et contre ce peuple, que vous m’ayez mis en prison ? | Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? |
| 19 | Et où sont vos prophètes qui vous prophétisaient en disant : Le roi de Babylone ne reviendra pas contre vous, ni contre ce pays ? | Where now are your prophets that prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? |
| 20 | Et maintenant écoute, je te prie, ô roi, mon seigneur! Que ma supplication soit reçue favorablement devant toi : ne me renvoie pas dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire, pour y mourir." | And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee, that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. |
| 21 | Le roi Sédécias donna l’ordre de garder Jérémie dans la cour de la prison et de lui donner chaque jour une miche de pain, de la rue des boulangers, jusqu’à ce que tout le pain de la ville fût consommé. Ainsi Jérémie demeura dans la cour de la prison. | Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers` street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard. |
