| 1 | And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, | La quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, la parole de Jéhovah fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Jéhovah, en ces termes : |
| 2 | Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. | "Prends un volume, et tu y écriras toutes les paroles que je t'ai dites contre Israël, contre Juda et contre toutes les nations depuis que je t'ai parlé, depuis les jours de Josias jusqu'aujourd'hui. |
| 3 | It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. | Peut-être que, quand la maison de Juda entendra tout le mal que j'ai à dessein de leur faire, ils se détourneront chacun de sa mauvaise voie, et je pardonnerai leur iniquité et leur péché." |
| 4 | Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. | Jérémie appela donc Baruch, fils de Néria, et Baruch écrivit sous la dictée de Jérémie; dans le volume, toutes les paroles que Jéhovah lui avait dites. |
| 5 | And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD: | Puis Jérémie donna cet ordre à Baruch : Je suis empêché, et ne puis entrer dans la maison de Jéhovah. |
| 6 | Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. | Tu iras donc, toi, et tu liras, dans le volume que tu as écrit sous ma dictée, les paroles de Jéhovah aux oreilles du peuple rassemblé dans la maison de Jéhovah le jour du jeûne, ainsi que de tous ceux de Juda qui seront venus de leurs villes. |
| 7 | It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people. | Peut-être que leur supplication arrivera devant Jéhovah et qu'ils se détourneront chacun de sa mauvaise voie; car grande est la colère et l'indignation que Jéhovah a exprimées contre ce peuple."- |
| 8 | And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house. | -Et Baruch, fils de Néria, fit tout ce que Jérémie le prophète lui avait commandé, lisant dans le livre les paroles de Jéhovah dans la maison de Jéhovah. |
| 9 | And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. | En la cinquième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, le neuvième mois, on publia un jeûne devant Jéhovah pour tout le peuple de Jérusalem et pour tout le peuple qui vint des villes de Juda à Jérusalem. |
| 10 | Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people. | Baruch lut dans le livre les paroles de Jéhovah aux oreilles de tout le peuple dans la maison de Jéhovah, dans la chambre de Gamarias, fils de Saphan, secrétaire dans le parvis supérieur, à l'entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de Jéhovah, |
| 11 | When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD, | Michée, fils de Gamarias, fils de Saphan, entendit toutes les paroles de Jéhovah contenues dans le livre; |
| 12 | Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. | et il descendit à la maison du roi, dans la chambre du secrétaire, où étaient assis tous les chefs, Elisama, le secrétaire, Dalaïas, fils de Séméïas, Elnathan, fils d'Achobor, Gamarias, fils de Saphan, Sédécias, fils de Hananias, et tous les autres. |
| 13 | Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. | Et Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu'il avait entendues lorsque Baruch lisait dans le livre aux oreilles du peuple. |
| 14 | Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. | Alors tous les chefs envoyèrent vers Baruch, fils de Nathanias, fils de Sélémias, fils de Chusi, pour lui dire : "Prends le volume dans lequel tu as lu aux oreilles du peuple, et viens."Baruch, fils de Néria, prit le volume et se rendit auprès d'eux. |
| 15 | And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. | Ils lui dirent : "Assieds-toi, et lis ce livre à nos oreilles."Et Baruch le leur lut. |
| 16 | Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. | Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu toutes ces paroles, ils se regardèrent avec effroi les uns les autres, et dirent à Baruch : "Il faut que nous rapportions au roi toutes ces paroles." |
| 17 | And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? | Puis ils adressèrent à Baruch cette question : "Déclare-nous comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles sorties de sa bouche." |
| 18 | Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. | Baruch leur répondit : "Il m'a dicté de sa bouche toutes ces paroles, et je les ai écrites dans ce livre avec de l'encre." |
| 19 | Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be. | Alors les chefs dirent à Baruch : "Va, cache-toi, ainsi que Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous êtes." |
| 20 | And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. | Ils entrèrent ensuite chez le roi dans la cour, laissant le volume dans la chambre d'Elisama, le secrétaire, et ils rapportèrent au roi tout ce qui venait de se passer. |
| 21 | So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. | Le roi envoya Judi pour prendre le volume, et quand Judi l’eut pris dans la chambre d'Elisama, le secrétaire, il le lut aux oreilles du roi et aux oreilles de tous les chefs qui se tenaient devant lui. |
| 22 | Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. | Or le roi était assis dans l'appartement d'hiver, au neuvième mois, et le brasier était allumé devant lui. |
| 23 | And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. | Dès que Judi eut lu trois ou quatre colonnes, le roi coupa le livre avec le canif du secrétaire, et le jeta au feu dans le brasier, jusqu'à ce que tout le volume fût consumé par le feu du brasier. |
| 24 | Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. | Le roi et tous ses serviteurs qui entendirent tontes ces paroles n'en furent point effrayés et ne déchirèrent point leurs vêtements. |
| 25 | Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them. | Pourtant Elnathan, Dalaïas et Gamarias avaient fait des instances auprès du roi pour qu'il ne brûlât pas le volume; mais il ne les avait pas écoutés. |
| 26 | But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them. | Puis le roi ordonna à Jérémiel, fils du roi, et à Séraias, fils d'Ezriel, et à Sélémias, fils d'Abdéel, de saisir Baruch, le secrétaire, et Jérémie, le prophète; mais Jéhovah les cacha. |
| 27 | Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, | La parole de Jéhovah fut adressée à Jérémie, après que le roi eut brûlé le volume et les paroles que Baruch avait écrites sous la dictée de Jérémie, en ces : termes : |
| 28 | Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. | Va prendre un autre volume, et tu y écriras toutes les premières paroles qui étaient dans le premier volume que Joakim, roi de Juda, a brûlé. |
| 29 | And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? | Et tu diras à Joakim, roi de Juda : Ainsi parle Jéhovah : Toi, tu as brûlé ce volume, en disant : "Pourquoi y as-tu écrit que le roi de Babylone viendra certainement, qu'il détruira ce pays et qu’il en fera disparaître hommes et bêtes ?" |
| 30 | Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. | C’est pourquoi Jéhovah parle ainsi touchant Joakim, roi de Juda : Il n'aura pas un des siens assis sur le trône de David; et sera jeté dehors, à la chaleur pendant le jour, et au froid pendant la nuit. |
| 31 | And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not. | Je punirai sur lui, sur sa race et sur tous ses serviteurs leur iniquité, et je ferai venir sur eux, sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les hommes de Juda, tous les malheurs que je leur ai annoncés sans qu'ils aient voulu m'écouter. |
| 32 | Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words. | Jérémie prit donc un autre volume et le donna à Baruch, fils de Nérias, son secrétaire; et Baruch y écrivit, sous la dictée de Jérémie, toutes les paroles du livre que Joakim, roi de Juda, avait brûlé, et beaucoup d'autres paroles semblables y furent ajoutées. |
