| 1 | And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, | Or avvenne nel quarto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, che questa parola fu rivolta dall'Eterno a Geremia, dicendo: |
| 2 | Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. | Prenditi un rotolo da scrivere e scrivi su di esso tutte le parole che ti ho detto contro Israele, contro Giuda e contro tutte le nazioni, dal giorno in cui ti ho parlato, dai giorni di Giosia, fino a questo giorno. |
| 3 | It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. | Forse la casa di Giuda udrà tutto il male che io penso di far loro e si ritrarrà ciascuno dalla propria via malvagia, e così io perdonerò la loro iniquità e il loro peccato. |

| 6 | therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah`s house upon the fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. | Perciò andrai tu a leggere, dal rotolo che hai scritto sotto mia dettatura, le parole dell'Eterno, negli orecchi del popolo nella casa dell'Eterno, nel giorno del digiuno; le leggerai anche negli orecchi di tutti quelli di Giuda che vengono dalle loro città. |
| 7 | It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people. | Forse presenteranno le loro suppliche all'Eterno e si ritrarrà ciascuno dalla propria via malvagia, perché grande è l'ira e il furore che l'Eterno ha pronunciato contro questo popolo. |
| 8 | And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah`s house. | Baruk quindi, figlio di Neriah, fece secondo tutto ciò che gli aveva comandato il profeta Geremia e lesse dal libro le parole dell'Eterno. |
| 9 | Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah. | Nel quinto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, nel nono mese, fu proclamato un digiuno davanti all'Eterno per tutto il popolo di Gerusalemme, e per tutto il popolo venuto dalle città di Giuda a Gerusalemme. |
| 10 | Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah`s house, in the ears of all the people. | Allora Baruk lesse dal libro le parole di Geremia agli orecchi di tutto il popolo, nella casa dell'Eterno, nella camera di Ghemariah, figlio di Shafan lo scriba, nel cortile superiore, all'ingresso della Porta Nuova della casa dell'Eterno. |
| 11 | And when Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Jehovah, | Mikaiah, figlio di Ghemariah, figlio di Shafan, udì tutte le parole dell'Eterno lette dal libro. |
| 12 | he went down into the king`s house, into the scribe`s chamber: and, lo, all the princes were sitting there, [to wit], Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. | Scese quindi alla casa del re, nella camera dello scriba, ed ecco là stavano seduti tutti i principi: Elishama lo scriba, Delaiah figlio di Scemaiah, Elnathan figlio di Akbor, Ghemariah figlio di Shafan, Sedekia figlio di Hananiah, e tutti gli altri principi. |
| 13 | Then Micaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. | Mikaiah riferì loro tutte le parole che aveva udito mentre Baruk leggeva il libro agli orecchi del popolo. |
| 14 | Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. | Allora tutti i principi mandarono Jehudi, figlio di Nethaniah, figlio di Scelemiah, figlio di Kusci a Baruk per dirgli: Prendi in mano il rotolo dal quale hai letto agli orecchi del popolo e vieni. Così Baruk, figlio di Neriah, prese in mano il rotolo e venne da loro. |
| 15 | And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. | Essi gli dissero: Siediti e leggilo davanti a noi. E Baruk lo lesse ai loro orecchi. |
| 16 | Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. | Quando udirono tutte quelle parole, ebbero paura e guardandosi l'un l'altro, dissero a Baruk: Dobbiamo senz'altro riferire tutte queste parole al re. |
| 17 | And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? | Poi chiesero a Baruk, dicendo: Dicci ora come hai scritto tutte queste parole: sotto sua dettatura?. |
| 18 | Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. | Baruk rispose loro: Egli mi ha dettato tutte queste parole con la sua stessa bocca, e io le ho scritte con inchiostro nel libro. |
| 19 | Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye are. | Allora i principi dissero a Baruk: Va' e nasconditi assieme a Geremia, e nessuno sappia dove siete. |
| 20 | And they went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king. | Poi andarono dal re, nel cortile dopo aver riposto il rotolo nella camera di Elishama lo scriba, e riferirono al re tutte quelle parole. |
| 21 | So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes that stood beside the king. | Allora il re mandò Jehudi a prendere il rotolo; ed egli lo prese dalla camera di Elishama lo scriba. Quindi Jehudi lo lesse agli orecchi del re e agli orecchi di tutti i principi che stavano presso il re. |
| 22 | Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month: and [there was a fire in] the brazier burning before him. | Ora il re stava seduto nel suo palazzo d'inverno, (era il nono mese), con un braciere che ardeva davanti a lui. |
| 23 | And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that [the king] cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. | Quando Jehudi ne ebbe letto tre o quattro colonne, il re lo tagliò col coltellino da scriba e lo gettò nel fuoco che era nel braciere, finché il rotolo fu interamente consumato dal fuoco che era nel braciere. |
| 24 | And they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. | Né il re né alcuno dei suoi servi che udirono tutte queste parole si spaventarono o si stracciarono le vesti. |
| 25 | Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll; but he would not hear them. | E sebbene Elnathan, Delaiah e Ghemariah supplicassero il re perché non bruciasse il rotolo, egli non volle ascoltarli. |
| 26 | And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king`s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them. | Anzi il re ordinò a Jerahmeel figlio del re, a Seraiah, figlio di Azriel e a Scelemiah, figlio di Abdel di prendere Baruk lo scriba e il profeta Geremia. Ma l'Eterno li nascose. |
| 27 | Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, | Dopo che il re ebbe bruciato il rotolo e le parole che Baruk aveva scritto sotto dettatura di Geremia, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta a Geremia, dicendo: |
| 28 | Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. | Prenditi di nuovo un altro rotolo e scrivi su di esso tutte le parole di prima, che erano nel primo rotolo bruciato da Jehoiakim, re di Giuda. |
| 29 | And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? | E a Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, dirai: Così dice l'Eterno: Tu hai bruciato questo rotolo, dicendo: "Perché hai scritto in esso che il re di Babilonia verrà certamente e distruggerà questo paese e farà scomparire da esso uomini e bestie?" |
| 30 | Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. | Perciò così dice l'Eterno riguardo a Jehoiakim re di Giuda: Egli non avrà alcuno che sieda sul trono di Davide, e il suo cadavere sarà gettato fuori ed esposto al calore del giorno e al gelo della notte. |
| 31 | And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they hearkened not. | Io punirò lui, la sua discendenza e i suoi servi per la loro iniquità e farò venire su di loro, sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme e sugli uomini di Giuda tutto il male che ho pronunciato contro di loro, perché non hanno ascoltato. |
| 32 | Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words. | Geremia quindi prese un altro rotolo e lo diede a Baruk, figlio di Neriah, lo scriba, il quale scrisse su di esso, sotto dettatura di Geremia, tutte le parole del libro che Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, aveva bruciato nel fuoco; vi furono inoltre aggiunte molte altre parole simili a quelle. |
