| 1 | The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (the same was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon,) | La parola che fu rivolta a Geremia riguardo a tutto il popolo di Giuda, nel quarto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda (che era il primo anno di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia), |

| 3 | From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of Jehovah hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. | Dal tredicesimo anno di Giosia figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, fino a questo giorno sono ventitrè anni che la parola dell'Eterno mi è stata rivolta, e io vi ho parlato con urgenza ed insistenza, ma voi non avete ascoltato. |
| 4 | And Jehovah hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, (but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear,) | L'Eterno vi ha pure mandato tutti i suoi servi, i profeti con urgenza ed insistenza, ma voi non avete ascoltato né prestato l'orecchio per ascoltare. |
| 5 | saying, Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Jehovah hath given unto you and to your fathers, from of old and even for evermore; | Essi dicevano: Si converta ciascuno dalla sua via malvagia e dalle sue cattive azioni, e abiterete nel paese che l'Eterno ha dato a voi e ai vostri padri da sempre e per sempre. |
| 6 | and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the work of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. | Non andate dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e per prostrarvi davanti a loro e non provocatemi a ira con l'opera delle vostre mani, e io non vi farò male alcuno". |
| 7 | Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith Jehovah; that ye may provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own hurt. | Ma voi non mi avete ascoltato, dice l'Eterno, e mi avete provocato ad ira con l'opera delle vostre mani a vostro danno. |
| 8 | Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Because ye have not heard my words, | Perciò così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Poiché non avete ascoltato le mie parole, |
| 9 | behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith Jehovah, and [I will send] unto Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. | ecco, io manderò a prendere tutte le nazioni del nord, dice l'Eterno, e Nebukadnetsar re di Babilonia, mio servo, e le farò venire contro questo paese e contro i suoi abitanti e contro tutte le nazioni all'intorno e li voterò allo sterminio e li renderò un oggetto di stupore uno scherno e una desolazione perpetua. |
| 10 | Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp. | Farò cessare in mezzo a loro le grida di gioia e le grida di allegrezza, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa, il rumore della macina e la luce della lampada. |
| 11 | And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. | Tutto questo paese diventerà una desolazione e un oggetto di stupore e queste nazioni serviranno il re di Babilonia per settant'anni. |
| 12 | And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith Jehovah, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it desolate for ever. | Quando però saranno compiuti settant'anni, io punirò il re di Babilonia e quella nazione, il paese dei Caldei, dice l'Eterno, a motivo della loro iniquità, e lo ridurrò a una desolazione perpetua. |
| 13 | And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations. | Così farò venire su quel paese tutte le cose che ho pronunciato contro di esso, tutto ciò che è scritto in questo libro e che Geremia ha profetizzato contro tutte le nazioni. |
| 14 | For many nations and great kings shall make bondmen of them, even of them; and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their hands. | Infatti molte nazioni e re potenti ridurranno in servitù i Caldei stessi e li ripagherò secondo le loro azioni e secondo l'opera delle loro mani. |
| 15 | For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto me: take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. | Poiché così mi ha detto l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: Prendi dalla mia mano questa coppa del vino della mia ira e falla bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali ti manderò. |
| 16 | And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. | Esse berranno, barcolleranno e impazziranno a motivo della spada che manderò in mezzo a loro. |
| 17 | Then took I the cup at Jehovah`s hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom Jehovah had sent me: | Allora presi la coppa dalla mano dell'Eterno e la feci bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali l'Eterno mi aveva mandato: |
| 18 | [to wit], Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; | Gerusalemme e le città di Giuda, i suoi re e i suoi principi, per ridurli a una desolazione, a un oggetto di stupore, a uno scherno e a una maledizione come avviene oggi; |
| 19 | Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; | il Faraone, re d'Egitto, i suoi servi, i suoi principi e tutto il suo popolo; |
| 20 | and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of the Uz, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; | tutta la popolazione mista, tutti i re del paese di Uz, tutti i re del paese dei Filistei (cioè Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron e i superstiti di Ashdod); |
| 21 | Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; | Edom, Moab e i figli di Ammon; |
| 22 | and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea; | tutti i re di Tiro, tutti i re di Sidone e i re delle isole, al di là del mare; |
| 23 | Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners [of their hair] cut off; | Dedan, Tema, Buz e tutti quelli che si tagliano gli angoli della barba; |
| 24 | and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the wilderness; | tutti i re di Arabia e tutti i re della popolazione mista che abita nel deserto; |
| 25 | and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; | tutti i re di Zimri, tutti i re di Elam, |
| 26 | and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. | tutti i re della Media e tutti i re del nord vicini o lontani, gli uni e gli altri, e tutti i regni del mondo che sono sulla faccia della terra. E il re di Sceshak, berrà dopo di loro. |
| 27 | And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. | Tu dunque dirai loro: Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: Bevete ubriacatevi e vomitate, cadete senza più rialzarvi di fronte alla spada che manderò in mezzo a voi. |
| 28 | And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ye shall surely drink. | Se poi rifiuteranno di prendere dalla tua mano la coppa da bere, di' loro: Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Voi certamente berrete. |
| 29 | For, lo, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts. | Poiché ecco, io incomincio a punire la città sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, e rimarreste voi completamente impuniti? No, non rimarrete impuniti perché io chiamerò la spada su tutti gli abitanti della terra, dice l'Eterno degli eserciti. |
| 30 | Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, Jehovah will roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he will mightily roar against his fold; he will give a shout, as they that tread [the grapes], against all the inhabitants of the earth. | Perciò profetizza contro di loro tutte queste cose e di' loro: L'Eterno ruggirà dall'alto e farà sentire la sua voce dalla sua santa dimora; egli ruggirà con forza contro il suo ovile, manderà un grido come i pigiatori d'uva contro tutti gli abitanti della terra. |
| 31 | A noise shall come even to the end of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the nations; he will enter into judgment with all flesh: as for the wicked, he will give them to the sword, saith Jehovah. | Il clamore giungerà fino all'estremità della terra, perché l'Eterno ha una contesa con le nazioni, egli entrerà in giudizio con ogni carne e darà gli empi in balìa della spada, dice l'Eterno. |
| 32 | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest shall be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth. | Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, una calamità passerà di nazione in nazione e un gran turbine si leverà dalle estremità della terra. |
| 33 | And the slain of Jehovah shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the face of the ground. | In quel giorno gli uccisi dall'Eterno saranno ovunque, da una estremità all'altra della terra; non saranno rimpianti né raccolti né sepolti, ma diventeranno letame sulla faccia del suolo. |
| 34 | Wail, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow [in ashes], ye principal of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are fully come, and ye shall fall like a goodly vessel. | Urlate, o pastori, e gridate; voltolatevi nella polvere, o guide del gregge, perché i giorni del vostro macello sono compiuti, e cadrete come un vaso prezioso. |
| 35 | And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. | I pastori non avranno alcuna possibilità di fuggire, e le guide del gregge alcuna via di scampo. |
| 36 | A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and the wailing of the principal of the flock! for Jehovah layeth waste their pasture. | Si udrà il grido dei pastori e il gemito delle guide del gregge, perché l'Eterno sta distruggendo il loro pascolo |
| 37 | And the peaceable folds are brought to silence because of the fierce anger of Jehovah. | e gli ovili tranquilli sono devastati a motivo dell'ardente ira dell'Eterno. |
| 38 | He hath left his covert, as the lion; for their land is become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppressing [sword], and because of his fierce anger. | Egli ha lasciato come un leoncello il suo rifugio, perché il loro paese è diventato una desolazione a motivo del furore dell'oppressore, a motivo dell'ardente ira dell'Eterno. |
