| 2 | Et je m'achetai la ceinture, selon la parole de Jéhovah, et je la mis sur mes reins. | So I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins. |
| 3 | La parole de Jéhovah me fut adressée une seconde fois, disant : | And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, |
| 4 | "Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée et qui est sur tes reins, et lève-toi; va vers l'Euphrate, et là tu la cacheras dans une fente de rocher | Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock. |
| 5 | "J'allai et je la cachai près de l'Euphrate, comme Jéhovah me l'avait ordonné. | So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me. |
| 6 | Et au bout d'un grand nombre de jours, Jéhovah me dit : "Lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là reprends la ceinture que je t'avais commandé d'y cacher ". | And it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. |
| 7 | J'allai vers l'Euphrate, je creusai et je repris la ceinture au lieu où je l'avais cachée; et voilà que la ceinture était gâtée, elle n'était plus bonne à rien. | Then I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing. |
| 8 | Et la parole de Jéhovah me fut adressée, disant : | Then the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, |
| 9 | Ainsi parle Jéhovah : C'est ainsi que je détruirai l'orgueil de Juda Et le grand orgueil de Jérusalem. | Thus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. |
| 10 | Ce peuple mauvais qui refuse d'écouter mes paroles, Qui suit l'opiniâtreté de son coeur, Et qui va après d'autres dieux pour les servir et les adorer, Il sera comme cette ceinture Qui n'est plus bonne à rien. | This evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing. |
| 11 | Car, comme la ceinture est attachée aux reins d'un homme, Ainsi je m'étais attaché toute la maison d'Israël Et toute la maison de Juda, dit Jéhovah, Afin qu'elles fussent pour moi un peuple, Un nom, un honneur et une gloire; Mais ils n'ont pas obéi. | For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear. |
| 12 | Dis-leur ces paroles : "Ainsi parle Jéhovah, Dieu d'Israël : Toute cruche sera remplie de vin."Ils te répondront : "Ne savons-nous pas Que toute cruche sera remplie de vin ?" | Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? |
| 13 | Et tu leur diras : "Ainsi parle Jéhovah : Je vais remplir tous les habitants de ce pays, Et les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, Les prêtres et les prophètes, Et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, d'ivresse. | Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David`s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. |
| 14 | Et je les briserai les uns contre les autres, Les pères et les fils ensemble, dit Jéhovah; Je n'épargnerai pas; je n'aurai pas de compassion, Je n'aurai pas de pitié pour ne pas les détruire. | And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them. |
| 15 | Ecoutez et prêtez l'oreille : Ne soyez point orgueilleux, Car Jéhovah a parlé. | Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud; for Jehovah hath spoken. |
| 16 | Rendez gloire à Jéhovah, votre Dieu, Avant qu'il amène les ténèbres, Que vos pieds se heurtent aux montagnes de la nuit, Qu'il change en ombre de mort la lumière que vous attendez Et qu'il en fasse une obscurité profonde. | Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. |
| 17 | Si vous n'écoutez pas ces avertissements, Mon âme pleurera en secret votre orgueil; Mes yeux se fondront en larmes, Parce que le troupeau de Jacob aura été emmené captif. | But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah`s flock is taken captive. |
| 18 | Dis au roi et à la reine : Asseyez-vous à terre, Car votre couronne de gloire tombe de votre tête. | Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headtires are come down, even the crown of your glory. |
| 19 | Les villes du midi sont fermées, Et personne ne les ouvre; Juda tout entier est déporté; La déportation est complète. | The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive. |
| 20 | Lève les yeux et vois ceux qui viennent du septentrion : Où est le troupeau qui t'avait été donné, Les brebis qui faisaient ta gloire ? | Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock? |
| 21 | Que diras-tu quand Jéhovah te donnera pour maîtres Ceux dont tu avais fait tes amants ? Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas Comme une femme qui enfante ? | What wilt thou say, when he shall set over thee as head those whom thou hast thyself taught to be friends to thee? shall not sorrows take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail? |
| 22 | Si tu dis dans ton coeur : Pourquoi ces malheurs m'arrivent-ils ? C'est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités Que les pans de ta robe ont été relevés, Que tes talons ont été meurtris. | And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence. |
| 23 | Un Ethiopien changera-t-il sa peau, Un léopard ses taches ? Alors vous pourrez aussi faire le bien, Vous qui êtes appris à mal faire. | Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. |
| 24 | Je les disperserai comme la paille Qu'emporte le vent du désert. | Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, by the wind of the wilderness. |
| 25 | Tel est ton sort, La part que je mesure, dit Jéhovah, Parce que tu m'as oublié, Que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge. | This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. |
| 26 | Et moi aussi je relèverai les pans de ta robe sur ton visage, Et l'on verra ta honte. | Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear. |
| 27 | Tes adultères, tes hennissements, Tes criminelles prostitutions, Sur toutes les hauteurs en pleine campagne, Toutes tes abominations, je les ai vues. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Combien de temps encore avant que tu ne sois purifiée ? | I have seen thine abominations, even thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, on the hills in the field. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean; how long shall it yet be? |
