| 1 | Et comme Jésus passait, il vit un homme aveugle dès sa naissance. | And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth. |
| 2 | Et ses Disciples l'interrogèrent, disant: Maître, qui a péché, celui-ci, ou son père, ou sa mère, pour être ainsi né aveugle? | And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? |
| 3 | Jésus répondit: ni celui-ci n'a péché, ni son père, ni sa mère; mais c'est afin que les oeuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui. | Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. |
| 4 | Il me faut faire les oeuvres de celui qui m'a envoyé, tandis qu'il est jour. La nuit vient en laquelle personne ne peut travailler. | We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. |
| 5 | Pendant que je suis au monde, je suis la lumière du monde. | When I am in the world, I am the light of the world. |
| 6 | Ayant dit ces paroles, il cracha en terre, et fit de la boue avec sa salive, et mit de cette boue sur les yeux de l'aveugle. | When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, |
| 7 | Et lui dit: va, et te lave au réservoir de Siloé (qui veut dire envoyé); il y alla donc, et se lava, et il revint voyant. | and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing. |
| 8 | Or les voisins, et ceux qui auparavant avaient vu qu'il était aveugle, disaient: n'est-ce pas celui qui était assis, et qui mendiait? | The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? |
| 9 | Les uns disaient: c'est lui: et les autres disaient: il lui ressemble; mais lui, il disait: c'est moi-même. | Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he]. |
| 10 | Ils lui dirent donc: comment ont été ouverts tes yeux? | They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened? |
| 11 | Il répondit, et dit: cet homme qu'on appelle Jésus, a fait de la boue, et il l'a mise sur mes yeux, et m'a dit: va au réservoir de Siloé, et te lave; après donc que j'y suis allé, et que je me suis lavé, j'ai recouvré la vue. | He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight. |
| 12 | Alors ils lui dirent: où est cet homme-là? il dit: je ne sais. | And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not. |
| 13 | Ils amenèrent aux Pharisiens celui qui auparavant avait été aveugle. | They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. |
| 14 | Or c'était en un jour de Sabbat, que Jésus avait fait de la boue, et qu'il avait ouvert les yeux de l'aveugle. | Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. |
| 15 | C'est pourquoi les Pharisiens l'interrogèrent encore, comment il avait reçu la vue; et il leur dit: il a mis de la boue sur mes yeux, et je me suis lavé, et je vois. | Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see. |
| 16 | Sur quoi quelques-uns d'entre les Pharisiens dirent: cet homme n'est point un envoyé de Dieu; car il ne garde point le Sabbat; mais d'autres disaient: comment un méchant homme pourrait-il faire de tels prodiges? et il y avait de la division entre eux. | Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them. |
| 17 | Ils dirent encore à l'aveugle: toi que dis-tu de lui, sur ce qu'il t'a ouvert les yeux? il répondit: c'est un Prophète. | They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. |
| 18 | Mais les Juifs ne crurent point que cet homme eût été aveugle, et qu'il eût recouvré la vue, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eurent appelé le père, et la mère de celui qui avait recouvré la vue. | The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight, |
| 19 | Et ils les interrogèrent, disant: est-ce ici votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? comment donc voit-il maintenant? | and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see? |
| 20 | Son père et sa mère leur répondirent, et dirent: nous savons que c'est ici notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle. | His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: |
| 21 | Mais comment il voit maintenant, ou qui lui a ouvert les yeux, nous ne le savons point; il a de l'âge, interrogez-le, il parlera de ce qui le regarde. | but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself. |
| 22 | Son père et sa mère dirent ces choses, parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car les Juifs avaient déjà arrêté, que si quelqu'un l'avouait être le Christ, il serait chassé de la Synagogue. | These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. |
| 23 | Pour cette raison son père et sa mère dirent: il a de l'âge, interrogez-le lui-même. | Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. |
| 24 | Ils appelèrent donc pour la seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle, et ils lui dirent: Donne gloire à Dieu; nous savons que cet homme est un méchant. | So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner. |
| 25 | Il répondit, et dit: je ne sais point s'il est méchant; mais une chose sais-je bien, c'est que j'étais aveugle, et maintenant je vois. | He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. |
| 26 | Ils lui dirent donc encore: que t'a-t-il fait? comment a-t-il ouvert tes yeux? | They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes? |
| 27 | Il leur répondit: je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous ne l'avez point écouté, pourquoi le voulez-vous encore ouïr? voulez-vous aussi être ses disciples? | He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples? |
| 28 | Alors ils l'injurièrent, et lui dirent: toi sois son disciple; pour nous, nous sommes les disciples de Moïse. | And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses. |
| 29 | Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais pour celui-ci, nous ne savons d'où il est. | We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is. |
| 30 | L'homme répondit, et leur dit: certes, c'est une chose étrange, que vous ne sachiez point d'où il est; et toutefois il a ouvert mes yeux. | The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes. |
| 31 | Or nous savons que Dieu n'exauce point les méchants, mais si quelqu'un est le serviteur de Dieu, et fait sa volonté, Dieu l'exauce. | We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth. |
| 32 | On n'a jamais ouï dire que personne ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né. | Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. |
| 33 | Si celui-ci n'était point un envoyé de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire de semblable. | If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. |
| 34 | Ils répondirent, et lui dirent: tu es entièrement né dans le péché, et tu nous enseignes! Et ils le chassèrent dehors. | They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. |
| 35 | Jésus apprit qu'ils l'avaient chassé dehors; et l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: crois-tu au Fils de Dieu? | Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? |
| 36 | Cet homme lui répondit, et dit: qui est-il, Seigneur, afin que je croie en lui? | He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? |
| 37 | Jésus lui dit: tu l'as vu, et c'est celui qui te parle. | Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee. |
| 38 | Alors il dit: j'y crois, Seigneur; et il l'adora. | And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. |
| 39 | Et Jésus dit: je suis venu en ce monde pour exercer le jugement, afin que ceux qui ne voient point, voient; et que ceux qui voient, deviennent aveugles. | And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind. |
| 40 | Ce que quelques-uns d'entre les Pharisiens qui étaient avec lui, ayant entendu, ils lui dirent: et nous, sommes-nous aussi aveugles? | Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind? |
| 41 | Jésus leur répondit: si vous étiez aveugles, vous n'auriez point de péché; mais maintenant vous dites: nous voyons; et c'est à cause de cela que votre péché demeure. | Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth. |
