| 1 | And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. | Mentre passava, vide un uomo che era cieco fin dalla nascita. |
| 2 | And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? | E i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono, dicendo: Maestro, chi ha peccato, lui o i suoi genitori, perché sia nato cieco?. |
| 3 | Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. | Gesù rispose: Né lui né i suoi genitori hanno peccato, ma ciò è accaduto, affinché siano manifestate in lui le opere di Dio. |
| 4 | I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. | Bisogna che io compia le opere di colui che mi ha mandato, mentre è giorno; la notte viene in cui nessuno può operare. |
| 5 | As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. | Mentre sono nel mondo, io sono la luce del mondo. |
| 6 | When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, | Dopo aver detto queste cose, sputò in terra, con la saliva fece del fango e ne impiastrò gli occhi del cieco. |
| 7 | And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. | Poi gli disse: Va', lavati nella piscina di Siloe (che significa: "Mandato"); egli dunque vi andò, si lavò e ritornò che ci vedeva. |
| 8 | The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? | Allora i vicini e quelli che lo avevano visto prima cieco, dissero: Non è questi colui che stava seduto a mendicare?. |
| 9 | Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. | Alcuni dicevano: e' lui. Altri: Gli assomiglia. Ed egli diceva: Io sono. |
| 10 | Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened? | Gli dissero dunque: Come ti sono stati aperti gli occhi?. |
| 11 | He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. | Egli rispose e disse: Un uomo, chiamato Gesù, ha fatto del fango, mi ha spalmato gli occhi e mi ha detto: "Va' alla piscina di Siloe e lavati". Ed io vi sono andato, mi sono lavato e ho recuperato la vista. |
| 12 | Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not. | E quelli gli dissero: Dov'è costui?. Egli rispose: Non lo so. |
| 13 | They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. | Allora essi condussero dai farisei colui che prima era stato cieco. |
| 14 | And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. | Ora era sabato quando Gesù fece del fango e gli aperse gli occhi. |
| 15 | Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. | Anche i farisei dunque gli domandarono di nuovo come avesse recuperato la vista. Ed egli disse loro: Mi ha messo del fango sugli occhi, mi sono lavato e ci vedo. |
| 16 | Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. | Allora alcuni farisei dicevano: Quest'uomo non è da Dio, perché non osserva il sabato. Altri dicevano: Come può un uomo peccatore compiere tali segni?. E c'era divisione tra di loro. |
| 17 | They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. | Chiesero dunque di nuovo al cieco: E tu, che dici di lui per il fatto che ti ha aperto gli occhi?. Egli disse: e' un profeta!. |
| 18 | But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. | Ma i Giudei non credettero che lui fosse stato cieco e avesse riacquistato la vista, finché ebbero chiamato i genitori di colui che aveva riacquistato la vista. |
| 19 | And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? | E chiesero loro: e' questo il vostro figlio che voi dite esser nato cieco? Come mai ora ci vede?. |
| 20 | His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: | I suoi genitori, rispondendo loro dissero: Noi sappiamo che costui è nostro figlio e che è nato cieco, |
| 21 | But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. | ma come ora ci veda, o chi gli abbia aperto gli occhi, noi non lo sappiamo domandatelo a lui; egli è adulto, parlerà lui stesso di sé. |
| 22 | These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. | Questo dissero i suoi genitori, perché avevano paura dei Giudei; infatti i Giudei avevano già stabilito che se uno avesse riconosciuto Gesù come il Cristo, sarebbe stato espulso dalla sinagoga. |
| 23 | Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. | Perciò i suoi genitori dissero: e' adulto, chiedetelo a lui. |
| 24 | Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. | Essi dunque chiamarono di nuovo l'uomo che era stato cieco e gli dissero: Da' gloria a Dio; noi sappiamo che quest'uomo è peccatore. |
| 25 | He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. | Egli allora rispose e disse: Se sia peccatore, non lo so; ma una cosa so, che prima ero cieco e ora ci vedo. |
| 26 | Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? | Gli chiesero di nuovo: Che cosa ti ha fatto? Come ti ha aperto gli occhi?. |
| 27 | He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? | Egli rispose loro: Io ve l'ho già detto e voi non avete ascoltato, perché volete udirlo di nuovo? Volete forse diventare anche voi suoi discepoli?. |
| 28 | Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. | Essi perciò l'ingiuriarono e dissero: Tu sei suo discepolo; ma noi siamo discepoli di Mosè. |
| 29 | We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. | Noi sappiamo che Dio ha parlato a Mosè, ma quanto a costui non sappiamo da dove venga. |
| 30 | The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. | Quell'uomo rispose e disse loro: Ebbene, è molto strano che voi non sappiate da dove venga; eppure egli mi ha aperto gli occhi. |
| 31 | Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. | Or noi sappiamo che Dio non esaudisce i peccatori, ma se uno è pio verso Dio e fa la sua volontà, egli lo esaudisce. |
| 32 | Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. | Da che mondo è mondo non si è mai sentito dire che uno abbia aperto gli occhi ad un cieco nato. |
| 33 | If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. | Se costui non fosse da Dio, non avrebbe potuto fare nulla. |
| 34 | They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. | Essi risposero e gli dissero: Tu sei nato completamente nei peccati e vuoi insegnare a noi?. E lo cacciarono fuori. |
| 35 | Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? | Gesù seppe che l'avevano cacciato fuori e, trovatolo, gli disse: Credi tu nel Figlio di Dio?. |
| 36 | He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? | Egli rispose e disse: Chi è, Signore, perché io creda in lui?. |
| 37 | And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. | E Gesù gli disse: Tu l'hai visto, è proprio colui che ti sta parlando |
| 38 | And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. | Allora egli disse: lo credo, Signore; e l'adorò. |
| 39 | And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. | Poi Gesù disse: lo sono venuto in questo mondo per fare un giudizio, affinché quelli che non vedono vedano e quelli che vedono diventino ciechi. |
| 40 | And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? | Alcuni dei farisei che erano con lui udirono queste cose e gli dissero: Siamo ciechi anche noi?. |
| 41 | Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. | Gesù rispose loro: Se foste ciechi, non avreste alcun peccato; ma siccome dite: "Noi vediamo perciò il vostro peccato rimane. |
