| 2 | And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, | Et les soldats firent une couronne d'épines qu'ils mirent sur sa tête, et le vêtirent d'un vêtement de pourpre. |
| 3 | And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. | Puis ils lui disaient: Roi des Juifs, nous te saluons; et ils lui donnaient des coups avec leurs verges. |
| 4 | Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. | Et Pilate sortit encore dehors, et leur dit: voici, je vous l'amène dehors, afin que vous sachiez que je ne trouve aucun crime en lui. |
| 5 | Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! | Jésus donc sortit portant la couronne d'épines, et le vêtement de pourpre; et Pilate leur dit: voici l'homme. |
| 6 | When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. | Mais quand les principaux Sacrificateurs et leurs huissiers le virent, ils s'écrièrent, en disant: crucifie, crucifie. Pilate leur dit: prenez-le vous-mêmes, et le crucifiez: car je ne trouve point de crime en lui. |
| 7 | The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. | Les Juifs lui répondirent: nous avons une loi, et selon notre loi il doit mourir, car il s'est fait Fils de Dieu. |
| 8 | When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; | Or quand Pilate eut ouï cette parole, il craignit encore davantage. |
| 9 | And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. | Et il rentra dans le Prétoire, et dit à Jésus: d'où es-tu? Mais Jésus ne lui donna point de réponse. |
| 10 | Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? | Et Pilate lui dit: ne me parles-tu point? ne sais-tu pas que j'ai le pouvoir de te crucifier, et le pouvoir de te délivrer? |
| 11 | Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. | Jésus lui répondit: tu n'aurais aucun pouvoir sur moi, s'il ne t'était donné d'en haut; c'est pourquoi celui qui m'a livré à toi, a fait un plus grand péché. |
| 12 | And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. | Depuis cela Pilate tâchait à le délivrer; mais les Juifs criaient, en disant: si tu délivres celui-ci tu n'es point ami de César; car quiconque se fait Roi, est contraire à César. |
| 13 | When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. | Quand Pilate eut ouï cette parole, il amena Jésus dehors, et s'assit au Siège judicial, dans le lieu qui est appelé le Pavé, et en Hébreu Gabbatha. |
| 14 | And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! | Or c'était la préparation de la Pâque, et il était environ six heures; et Pilate dit aux Juifs: voilà votre Roi. |
| 15 | But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. | Mais ils criaient: ôte, ôte, crucifie-le. Pilate leur dit: crucifierai-je votre Roi? Les principaux Sacrificateurs répondirent: nous n'avons point d'autre Roi que César. |
| 16 | Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. | Alors donc il le leur livra pour être crucifié. Ils prirent donc Jésus, et l'emmenèrent. |
| 17 | And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: | Et Jésus portant sa croix, vint au lieu appelé le Calvaire, et en Hébreu Golgotha; |
| 18 | Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. | Où ils le crucifièrent, et deux autres avec lui, un de chaque côté, et Jésus au milieu. |
| 19 | And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. | Or Pilate fit un écriteau, qu'il mit sur la croix, où étaient écrits ces mots: JESUS NAZARIEN LE ROI DES JUIFS. |
| 20 | This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. | Et plusieurs des Juifs lurent cet écriteau, parce que le lieu où Jésus était crucifié, était près de la ville; et cet écriteau était en Hébreu, en Grec, et en Latin. |
| 21 | Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. | C'est pourquoi les principaux Sacrificateurs des Juifs dirent à Pilate: n'écris point, le Roi des Juifs; mais, que celui-ci a dit: je suis le Roi des Juifs. |
| 22 | Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. | Pilate répondit: ce que j'ai écrit, je l'ai écrit. |
| 23 | Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. | Or quand les soldats eurent crucifié Jésus, ils prirent ses vêtements, et en firent quatre parts, une part pour chaque soldat; ils prirent aussi la tunique; mais elle était sans couture, tissue depuis le haut jusqu'en bas. |
| 24 | They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. | Et ils dirent entre eux: ne la mettons point en pièces, mais jetons-la au sort, pour savoir à qui elle sera. Et cela arriva ainsi, afin que l'Ecriture fût accomplie, disant: ils ont partagé entre eux mes vêtements, et ils ont jeté au sort ma robe; les soldats donc firent ces choses. |
| 25 | Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. | Or près de la croix de Jésus étaient sa mère, et la soeur de sa mère, savoir Marie femme de Cléopas, et Marie Magdelaine. |
| 26 | When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! | Et Jésus voyant sa mère, et auprès d'elle le Disciple qu'il aimait, il dit à sa mère: femme, voilà ton Fils. |
| 27 | Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. | Puis il dit au Disciple: voilà ta Mère; et dès cette heure-là ce Disciple la reçut chez lui. |
| 28 | After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. | Après cela Jésus sachant que toutes choses étaient déjà accomplies, il dit, afin que l'Ecriture fût accomplie: j'ai soif. |
| 29 | Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. | Et il y avait là un vase plein de vinaigre, ils emplirent donc de vinaigre une éponge, et la mirent au bout d'une branche d'hysope, et la lui présentèrent à la bouche. |
| 30 | When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. | Et quand Jésus eut pris le vinaigre, il dit: tout est accompli; et ayant baissé la tête, il rendit l'esprit. |
| 31 | The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. | Alors les Juifs, afin que les corps ne demeurassent point en croix au jour du Sabbat, parce que c'était la préparation, (or c'était un grand jour du Sabbat) prièrent Pilate qu'on leur rompît les jambes, et qu'on les ôtât. |
| 32 | Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. | Les soldats donc vinrent, et rompirent les jambes au premier, et de même à l'autre qui était crucifié avec lui. |
| 33 | But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: | Puis étant venus à Jésus, et voyant qu'il était déjà mort, ils ne lui rompirent point les jambes; |
| 34 | But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. | Mais un des soldats lui perça le côté avec une lance, et d'abord il en sortit du sang et de l'eau. |
| 35 | And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. | Et celui qui l'a vu, l'a témoigné, et son témoignage est digne de foi; et celui-là sait qu'il dit vrai, afin que vous le croyiez. |
| 36 | For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. | Car ces choses-là sont arrivées afin que cette Ecriture fût accomplie: pas un de ses os ne sera cassé. |
| 37 | And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. | Et encore une autre Ecriture, qui dit: ils verront celui qu'ils ont percé. |
| 38 | And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. | Or après ces choses, Joseph d'Arimathée, qui était Disciple de Jésus, secret toutefois parce qu'il craignait les Juifs, pria Pilate qu'il lui permît d'ôter le corps de Jésus; et Pilate le lui ayant permis, il vint, et prit le corps de Jésus. |
| 39 | And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. | Nicodème aussi, celui qui auparavant était allé de nuit à Jésus, y vint apportant une mixtion de myrrhe et d'aloès d'environ cent livres. |
| 40 | Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. | Et ils prirent le corps de Jésus, et l'enveloppèrent de linges avec des Aromates, comme les Juifs ont coutume d'ensevelir. |
| 41 | Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. | Or il y avait au lieu où il fut crucifié un jardin, et dans le jardin un sépulcre neuf, où personne n'avait encore été mis. |
| 42 | There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. | Et ils mirent là Jésus, à cause de la préparation des Juifs, parce que le sépulcre était près. |
